LEGO survey regarding your experiences
Johnny1360 replied to Mads Lindum's topic in General LEGO Discussion
1; Having just recently come out of my dark age, less than 2 years ago, I was totally overwhelmed by how hugely popular Lego has become. I think because of that popularity, Lego users cover not only all social /economic niches but also aren't necessarily innovative or overly imaginative. Just a lot of people playing with a great toy and are of all ages. The whole collecting /investing thing is something totally different though. 2; I personally use Lego as part of ongoing therapy, so it doesn't necessarily make me feel young or innovative, I am actually quite old, just steers me away from rather destructive behavior. One other thing I have found also is that whenever I discuss Lego with other people. Inevitably the first words out of their mouths is "It's a great toy but it's so expensive" Now go buy some Lego and build also Welcome to the forums. -
That is the one I used a lot, before I acquired an overabundance of the other ones. It was the only way I could ever figure out that lined up just right. On a side note set 76086 has a bunch of them in black and set 75177 has a bunch in light gray.

I really like what you've done here, the color scheme could be better but after all it is a C model. For those complaining about the openness of the models fender wells, they should check out that car you used for inspiration. Boy race cars sure have come a long ways since then.

The first vehicle I ever owned was a 68' GMC the body style is the same as this one, although mine was red. So I have a special fondness of your MOC. Many times I have tried recreate my old red truck, without much success. However now I am inspired to try it again. Hope you don't mind if I borrow some of your ideas, as you really nailed the look. Spot on in fact.

Very impressive, especially after the updates. Not only is it so well built but the speed in which you managed to put it all together just blows me away. I have never attempted to replicate anothers MOC but this may be my first. Very well done!

For more speed you need to gear the motor up. However there is a point of diminishing return, where you need more torque to even getting the car to move. That is when you add more motors. Hardcoupling them together works for me just fine without causing damage to the motors, as long as they are the same size. It will not increase the top speed though, may even be slower due to current draw and one motor dragging the other down. Even identical motors often turn at slightly different RPMs.

Probably showing my age here but a Wild Wild West theme would be great. Western, steampunk, sci-fi, trains with a little castle thrown in for good measure. Still watch that show from time to time, corny as it is.

Looks great, such attention to detail. Especially like the design of the front half, with the extensive armament. I would hate to disembark out the back though, with those barber shears spooling up.

[MOC] Ariane 6 rocket
Johnny1360 replied to Alex Pendable's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Love rockets, love Lego and this one looks fabulous. Having said that it does look like a whole lot of round plates and bricks stacked. One of the things I really liked about the Saturn V was how they achieved the round shape by using different shapes and building techniques. That seems to be lacking in this one. It does look great though. -
Something else to keep in mind is current draw. You can only efficiently run X amount of motors off of one battery box. Also I think adding motors doesn't necessarily add speed for that I rely on gearing. However adding motors will increase torque, allowing you to get to top speed faster.

For me the "Best" way to acquire parts is for free. Of course that usually means you just take what you can get. I do this by telling anyone that will listen about my love of Lego, sometimes even showing them pictures. Usually then they tell you about their experience with Lego son/daughter used to play with them, so on and so on, then they will tell you they still have them stored away somewhere and if you want them your more than welcome to have them. My greatest score using this method was a 100% complete UCS tumbler extra bits and box included. Felt kind of guilty about taking it but they absolutely refused to take any money for it.

Painting models to make them more realistic
Johnny1360 replied to randomboy's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I have resisted the urge to paint my Lego so far. However back when I was heavily into scale modeling I would often use special paints such as weathered, dirt, mud and even sun fade. It was all about using the right brush strokes or other application process, like dabbing it on with cotton balls, to get the right effect. Have thinner handy to remove undesired effects is important also. Check out your local hobbie/model shop for special paints, you may find just what your looking for. -

Technic 2018 Set Discussion
Johnny1360 replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Good point, it used to upset me greatly. Thinking they were knocking pieces off to bring it to a certain price point. Now I kind of like it, almost always add a few extra bits to every set. I even buy sets I have no interest in for those extra bits. -
Hello all, John here in Indy. After 45 years of darkness, I am back into Lego. It started as therapy about 18 months ago, for an ongoing condition, now building and collecting Lego has become a full blown addiction. Way back in 1973 as a wee lad, I played with my Lego collection almost daily. Back then for me it was mostly bricks in 3 or 4 colors with a few wheels, gears and windows thrown in for good measure. With close to 1000 elements I thought I was king Lego. Then in 1974 we got new neighbors and my mom made me go over and play with Bob. The new neighbors son, my age. Could not wait since my mom said he also had Lego. Well as it turned out this guy just moved from Germany and had every Lego set made, didn't even know such things existed. Turns out his grandpa was some bigshot with Lego. I mean he had it all planes, trains, trucks, cars and even a rocket. A complete city with roads and buildings even, the train operated by just blowing a whistle too. It made my collection look like a box of rocks, so I never could enjoy them again, ending up giving them to another kid. Fast forward 45 years started my "therapy" with 75105, was immediately awed by how far Lego and come yet how much it was the same. So now I am building my collection and again rarely a day goes by I don't build something.

Technic 2018 Set Discussion
Johnny1360 replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi everyone new guy here. After years of lurking finally signed up. Can confirm 42077 is in fact dark azure. Should make Jim happy. Anyway against all recommendations picked it up last weekend. The set does seem somewhat flimsy and lots of empty space but I really needed/wanted many of the parts, stuff I am lacking mostly. I rather enjoyed the build and price wasn't to bad, probably be tearing it down this weekend though.
