I occasionally have similar issues with the instructions and tend to work with bright lights as a consequence, I have always attributed it to old age though, as I am over 60 years old. Curious what age group you fall into?

You might try an inexpensive Dremal tool with a cut off wheel, I have had very good experience modifying LEGO using one. (No need for all that sanding and whatnot)

42144 - Material Handler
Johnny1360 replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Indeed, a simple ball type check valve, would be very useful and could be simply made small enough to fit in any line. The biggest problem I see would be getting it correctly installed, I could see many people installing it backwards, causing much frustration. Still to me that would be a minor problem and I would love to see such a part. Great idea. -
Exactly and all plates bow slightly towards the stud side, by design as mentioned.

Could Lego "partially" melt if not used for a very long time?
Johnny1360 replied to ks6349's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I have found just a little bit of a quality dish detergent to be fine. I usually fill the sink with hot soapy water, then put your dirty LEGO in a colander and submerge that in the water. That way you can easily agitate the parts and remove them from the soapy water and makes it easier to rinse the soap off, with out worrying about washing small bits down the drain. -
Speed Champions: Which has the best building experience?
Johnny1360 replied to HenryD's topic in LEGO Town
That's hard to say for me, as one of the things I like about them, is how each one does the build a little bit different, I enjoy each build and they are inexpensive enough that I can afford them all. -
What is the best way to display Lego inside a car?
Johnny1360 replied to ks6349's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Maybe one of those Dots Stitch-on Patches would help to secure the base to the dashboard. If you don't mind me asking, what type of vehicle, will this be in. -
Does anyone buy Lego but not open or sell it?
Johnny1360 replied to ks6349's topic in General LEGO Discussion
It is odd, to me, you see it that way. In my experience, you could easily pack two sets worth of bricks into most all boxes. Even flattened the boxes are very large and stacks of different sized boxes become unwieldy and space consuming. Not sure where you live either but around here cardboard and paper make a wonderful home for rodents and insects as well. I will say this though if I were interested in reselling LEGO it would definitely still be in an unopened box, or new. As far as opened sets, I still maintain that box saving is a waste of time and money 90% of the time. If I want the box I would always buy new. -

Johnny1360 replied to ks6349's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Guilty of the same, also only save maybe 10% of the boxes, they take up far too much space, in my world anyway, lol. I even mix up my parts with parts from other sets, unless It is an absolute great set or a highly collectable set that I just pick up without really looking for. I do hang on to the instructions though, which are quite heavy and also take up valuable space in my micro apartment. As far as value, I think far too many people overestimate the value of LEGO, I doubt seriously any of my LEGO sales will amount to anything other than some pocket change. -
New LEGO Speed Champions 2023 Rumors, Speculation
Johnny1360 replied to MTBingNinja's topic in LEGO Town
They will have to be exceptionally well done for me to continue buying Speed Champions sets, one of my personal favorite themes. Prices have pretty much doubled in the past five years for SC sets, one of the big draws for me was Inexpensive sets, didn't matter if I liked them or not. In todays environment though they will have to be much liked for me to crack open the vault. -
Looks very good Andre, as does most everything you build. Can't believe I did not know you could use the "crowbar" piece like that, as they say NPU. Is the red stripping, tape or something else. Really like this and I look forward to trying to replicate it, thanks for sharing the build.

Good Knot Techniques for LEGO Strings and Threads
Johnny1360 replied to The Deleter's topic in General LEGO Discussion
For me the issue is getting the knot actually tied at the end of the string, without a long tail like piece hanging out, begging to be cut off. The knots I use are the same I use tying off fishing tackle, which is likely overkill but I can tie them in the dark, lol. -
Regarding storage of bricks. I sometimes click together similar parts for storage, anything from 6x6 plates to 1x1 even. Helps me collect many parts of one color as I don't always have parts binned by color alone especially smaller numerous bits. Anyway the whole point is do bricks get damaged or lose clutch power when left in an assembled state for extended lengths of time, talking years here. It saves me a great deal of time and space to do it this way but if it damages the bricks in any way, I will stop storing my bricks locked together. I have never noticed any damage before, except for clips, they certainly lose clutch power, I am more concerned with stud connections.

After seeing the new high speed train France is developing, I can see many similarities with the new LEGO passenger train, makes me wonder if there was some sort of collaboration, or just dumb luck, lol.

Lego City 2023 Leaks, Rumours, Speculation And Discussion
Johnny1360 replied to Powered by Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
More like classic building style, not necessarily classic, is the way I kind of view it. -
Lol, are you kidding me, at the core, it is the wave selector, even more funny, it's orange. They just disguise it by changing it's size and profile, then hide it in a little box with and preassembled with the parts TLG would have you build. Hilarious. I really do like the concept though and find it quite interesting, enough so I think I will try my hand at making a similar contraption from LEGO, will certainly be much larger though.
-
I have never had such issues, so I think your good, maybe someone else will say differently though. It is good to see you still working on this, I have been following it for some time now. This thing will be an absolute masterpiece when finished, considering all the work you have put into it, I know what it's like to tear down a half completed build just to rebuild it better, enjoy.

[MOC] Kinetic sculpture: Rough Road Conditions

Man you stole my idea, ha, this is great, my feeble attempts came nowhere near what you have done. Really like this and can see many alternatives, good job and thanks.- 2 replies

This is a project I have often wanted to build, so it is great to see how you have done things. One of the problems I have is the whole Grader, because of all the functions, becomes an unwieldy mass or huge construct, so I inevitably build it in much larger scale than originally intended. I think yours is about perfect scale wise and maintains a look that is true to source material, good job, if anything I would have made the engine cover a little larger. I also like the features you have included, not an easy feat to pull off, as these machines are very complicated, I don't think most people understand just how important these machines are and just what they are capable of. Thanks for building a rarity, I enjoyed it and will likely "borrow" some ideas.

Unimog MOC Trial truck
Johnny1360 replied to Voldemort87's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I like that the battery box is made to look like cargo, instead of being hidden away, taking up valuable space. Don't know why I have never considered it, lol, as it enables one to make smaller vehicles. -
Looks good, also looks like it was a challenging build. Curious why it is 7-wide, I am guessing it has to do with scale, anyway great job.
