  1. Hi, out of curiosity, what was the Jabbas palace incident?
  2. Hi Woodblocks, I am located in Crawley but frequently go to Brighton. I am thinking about asking the Lego Shop in Brighton if they know about some Lego gatherings.
  3. Nice review! I had purchased quite a few of this set when it went on sales. It really permitted to have a nice union soldier army. The pieces offered with the set are really useful as well.
  4. Hi there, if such events are still taking place, I d be interested as well!
  5. Not having seen Frozen, I can not relate this build to the film. I can however say that I really like it. You have achieved a great level of details for such a scale.
  6. I would start the bidding as low as possible to gather the interest of people. If you start off with a high price tag, you may scare off some potential buyers. I would make the starting price at 10$. I could see this lot going for around 50$ but is hard to say as there are a lot of offers on ebay.
  7. I could see this color being used for some amazing historic buildings. Is this ornament still available anywhere?
  8. Hi Mephek, When were these sets released? Not being a fan from Bionicle, could you explain why they are worse than other bionicle sets? In contrast, what is the best Bionicle set in your opinion?
  9. Hi Creatorman (cool username btw), I have to admit that I could get into serious Mocing only once I had sorted out my collection. I do not think it is fun to MOC without being able to find your pieces. It took me a couple months to sort all my pieces but it was really worth it. I am among the people that prefer the feel of a brick rather than using a digital program. If you feel that you are lacking pieces to build what you would like, I would advise you to buy some bulk lots through ebay or buy pieces on the pick-a-brick wall in a Lego shop. In order to improve the design of your MOC, I would advise you to look regularly for the MOC of others as they can help you gain some inspirations. Additionally, there are plenty of resources available to help you improve your techniques. Good Luck!
  10. This is spectacular. The building is immediately recognizable. If only one day the Lego Group could turn tintin in a franchise.
  11. The Real Indiana Jones: Your build is fantastic. There is no doubt to me that I prefer the flesh-toned skins rather than the usual yellow. I am glad to see this thread brought back to live thanks to you. A lot of comments believe that the creation of such theme would be a risky move by TLG or uninteresting. I have to disagree. I still view Lego as an educational toy. Such theme could be a mean to bring more positive awareness about this continent. Remember during the American presidential elections in 2008, Sarah Palin who was running for vice president, believed that Africa was a country. If a person at that level had such little knowledge about the continent, I can understand that a lot of people know little to nothing about the continent. Lego could be used as a tool to bring more awareness about Africa's beauty. Gedren_y, this is truly the best idea I have seen across this thread. I have to admit that I was not familiar with this institute at all. However, I could see such partnership working really well. It could bring more visibility to such organization, bring a more humane image to TLG, be beneficial to the education of children and bring new molds to the AFOL community.
  12. Most feedbacks received make a lot of sense. As per the feedbacks received, I am under the impression that the AFOL community prefers the Parisian restaurant by far. However, it looks like the Maersk ship is outselling the Parisian restaurant for two reasons: 1. People know that its run will be much shorter and buy it as a mean of investment 2. The Maersk ship can actually tempt a lot of non-AFOL who simply like big ships I have to admit that I am somewhat disappointed that a set I truly like is not outselling a set targeted to the same audience. I hope it will not lead to an increasing trend in creating sets full of stickers that are too specialized. As the Lego Historian pointed out, I do not like the idea of people buying high quantity of a set in view to sell them later at an inflated price. This can probably mislead the sales of sets. I am also wondering how long this parallel market can sustain, looking at the increasing offer from Lego. Possibly, a member of the staff include a poll asking which set the community prefers? Also, if a member of the staff deems it necessary, it could be worth adding an additional poll asking members if they foresee the acquisition of the Maersk ship as a good investment? Same question for the Parisian Restaurant?
  13. I love seeing reviews of these old sets. They bring such good memories. When I was a kid, having the possibility to foresee the pieces by opening lifting the lid was such a great feeling. I had a few blacktrons. Their visors was so great. Thanks for this great review.
  14. Wow, I did not see it coming. On the UK website of Lego, the Maersk container ship is out of stock and will be available only in March. I guess TLG did not foresee the set to be so popular either. This is a big surprise to me.
  15. Castor Troy, this is incredible. I thought that once the haunted house was included, the build was finished. I am so glad I was mistaken. I really like the tower with two shades, I hope the main castle will include this. Good luck wit the remainder of the project.
  16. I had the chance to talk with one Lego employee today when going to the Bluewater Lego shop. We were discussing about the sales of some set and he was telling me that he was surprised to see that the Maersk ship was selling better than the Parisian restaurant. I have to admit that I am equally surprised as I was under the impression that the modular house can appeal a much broader audience and is essential for a lot of people to complete their collections. On the opposite, the Maersk container is too similar to its predecessor issued 4 years ago and its audience would be much more targeted (at least I thought). I am wondering whether this is just a local thing or whether you think the Maersk container ship is selling better on a worldwide basis, if so what would be the reasons for it selling better?
  17. I really like the building. I think you really captured well the Parisian look. The facade work is simply marvelous. I really like the design of your tent. While I do not want to abuse from your kindness, it would be great if you could make a close up picture of the front door? It looks outstanding but we cannot really see it from the pictures you submitted. .
  18. Thanks for your comment. I have used the following piece which is actually found in the original Lone Ranger Mine: http://www.brickset.com/parts/?part=6002837. When doing the bridge, I was inspired by such design: Train Sample by Kinggregus, on Flickr
  19. This is exactly my thoughts. I am eager to see what is inside the house.
  20. Incredible. I googled the building and I have to say, your MOC depicts the original building really well. I would however suggest that you use a mini-minifig in grey (similar to those found in the board games) instead of the regular minifig. This would probably better fit the proportion of the building.
  21. Interesting to see the views from everyone. I have never read the LOTR books nor did see the movies. However, I really liked the first waves of the sets TLG had released.I had bought them all as the pieces offered were amazing. I also started to like the minifigures, especially after buying an unexpected gathering. However, the last 2 waves really did not appeal me, except the council of Eldron. The pieces we start toget seems to be a lot in black and Dark Grey, two colors I do not use often. To me, Helms Deep is the best castle ever designed by TLG. It is unfortunate that the trend did not continue.
  22. I really understand the perspective from the collectors. I am also glad I am not collecting this line otherwise I would have clearly been upset. As for the building not being very well known, I do not think this is the case. I believe it was the most expensive building of its kind when build. It should in any cases not be an excuse for not producing many of these sets. I think TLG can still make it right by producing more of these sets. I will follow this tread hoping to see an answer from the group as I really do not like this trend to make sets exclusive.
  23. Hi Everyone, I have taken advantage of the long and cold days to build one of my very first MOCs. The recent Lone Ranger theme inspired me to work on a western layout. As I have limited space to build, this MOC is a modular build and can be split into two sections. I have to admit that I wanted to work the cliff on the upper level a bit more, but I know that I will have close to no time to build in the coming months. I wanted also to include as many features as possible in a limited space. I hope this was not too much. Here is an overview of the build (the train is the original train from LR): All Main by Kinggregus, on Flickr Another view from a different angle: All Main2 by Kinggregus, on Flickr A close up of the fort. The name is inspired from the cartoon "The Blue Coats": Fort1 by Kinggregus, on Flickr The fort under a different angle. You can see the cave that Indians can use to go to the "Main Level": Fort2 by Kinggregus, on Flickr Here is a closeup on the cave. It includes a stair for Indians to go to the upper level. Cave1 by Kinggregus, on Flickr The Indian Camp can be better seen from this picture: Indian Camp1 by Kinggregus, on Flickr The mine can be separated from the main build. Mine1 by Kinggregus, on Flickr I thought it was fun to have a the possibility to turn the light on. I used the lightbricks to make it possible: Mine2b by Kinggregus, on Flickr And here is a final overview of the MOC: Conclusion by Kinggregus, on Flickr I would be pleased to hear about your comments. I will probably be building another section in a couple months. Therefore any criticisms would be welcome. Thanks a lot!
  24. Funny as I do like most of you. My modular buildings are on top of an Ikea Expedit Shelf. However, I am running out of space, I had to remove one half of market street so the Parisian restaurant could fit it. Modular Layout by Kinggregus, on Flickr
  25. I have just finished building it. I really believe that this is the nicest modular building of all. My wife (who has just eyes to enjoy Lego as she does not build) really liked it as well and kept on looking into every details. I was somewhat disappointed with the last two modular buildings but kept on buying them in order not to break my collection. Now I am wondering next to which other modular I will put it. Any thoughts?
