That could still work make a tunnel under the road ... Then you could have two tracks on the back side serve as "destination " trains. Run train A around and stop behind the curtain. The activate train B ... Would give the idea that your train ”went somewhere"

So after I've taken it to some shows I'm happy with the involvement the it went through three layout revisions but the final is something I can be happy with. (The beautiful thing was as long as I had 7 and 8 head and tail tracks I could put it in any layout.) So the plan is to "modualize" this. The track is already 4 plates high so if I raise it one more plate it meets MILS standard for balasted track. I wish I had taken more shots of it but the public offered very little time to. What I did learn was this. As an inglenook the puzzle works ... However I have only gotten 6 people to actually ”do” the puzzle. Instead what I found was if I had them just shunt one or two cars from main to siding then most were happy and content.(and not overwhelmed) At the first show I explained the rules and operations and the first day was slow the second day I just had them moving cars and that worked so I continued. At the last show GTS I talked with a rail club nscale about his timesaver. He had been showing it several years and came to the same conclusion most people only move a couple cars around. He was thrilled to see another switching puzzle ... And in Lego. The automatic uncoupling impressed him as he uses long sticks lol Here are a just a couple pictures like I said I wish I took more but the only time I had was just before teardown several times.

I like the thought of the facade as well. It could be done simply with a couple tunnels. And just 4 studs deep of the modular instructions. I plan to do something similar with my industrial switch game seeing as it went over well this year! I know here locally we call it the maintenance shed or car shop depending on what it's maintaining. If it's storing engines then is the engine house.

Lego acquiring Bricklink - Problem with 3D-printed parts?
Roadmonkeytj replied to ScotNick's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I think the confusion comes from the mix up of terms ”violence" and ”war / warefare" In a 2010 Progress Report, the Lego Group explained its stance on toys and weapons on page 26. “Guideline for weapons and conflict in LEGO experiences” A large number of LEGO mini figures use weapons and are – assumedly – regularly being charged by each others’ weapons as part of children’s role play. In the LEGO Group, we acknowledge that conflict in play is especially prevalent among 4-9-year-old boys. An inner drive and a need to experiment with their own aggressive feelings in order to learn about other people’s aggressions exist in most children. This, in turn, enables them to handle and recognize conflict in non-play scenarios. As such, the LEGO Group sees conflict play as perfectly acceptable, and an integral part of children’s development. We also acknowledge children’s well-proven ability to tell play from reality. However, to make sure to maintain the right balance between play and conflict, we have adhered to a set of unwritten rules for several years. In 2010, we have formalized these rules in a guideline for the use of conflict and weapons in LEGO products. The basic aim is to avoid realistic weapons and military equipment that children may recognize from hot spots around the world and to refrain from showing violent or frightening situations when communicating about LEGO products. At the same time, the purpose is for the LEGO brand not to be associated with issues that glorify conflicts and unethical or harmful behavior. “We have a strict policy regarding military models, and therefore, we do not produce tanks, helicopters, etc. While we always support the men and women who serve their country, we prefer to keep the play experiences we provide for children in the realm of fantasy.” -
Lego acquiring Bricklink - Problem with 3D-printed parts?

This is what I fear ... Several stores I frequent sell custom prints or decals or train parts ... I personally will still be able to get most of these items as I have connections with the sellers outside of BL however it will be a pita when I can't just refer people to the BL store that they can get the custom parts from to build something similar This has long been a stand by Lego from it's very early days ... Lego does make ”guns" infact Lego makes past present and future "guns". What Lego does not do is promote "War" in the sets they build. And I completely agree with this stand. War is an important part of the world history. However it's not something I want my son's growing up to "play" with. Yes it's silly to believe world peace exists in LEGO world but truely that is the idea. The bad guys ALWAYS get caught and put in jail. It's subliminal training but yes it's a practice I whole heartedly agree with. Brick arms / brick warriors does not need to be on BL to survive infact I have never bought anything of theirs off BL and I spend $50 with them several times a year. The thing that worries me is smaller sellers that could not justify a website domain as a operations expense and simply close up shop. -
What would you do if your minifigs came alive?

I would be in a world of touble seeing as I have 200 of them trapped in a plastic bag -
@Legopold I noticed your service shed has been modified ... Any photos of your changes?
-
If you haven't already done so with one of the great opinions above .... Back before Photoshop was a mainstream product ... You would take the photo with a colored paper behind your figure the open paint and set that color to transparent (make sure this color is not in you figure anywhere) Then crop and open another paint window you paste your background image then you copy your transparent background image from the other window and paste it into the background photo. Don't unselect it until it's scaled and skewed the way you want. That is the hard way and photo editing has come a long way since the Advent of ms paint lol

New rolling stock & engine shed from Bluebrixx

I never even heard of them until this post lol ... However ... So curiosity got the best of me ... And I did just that ... ... Now before you abuse me about the head and ears hear me out. While I won't support them nor purchase anything from them ... Simply by registering I was given access to their instructions for download ... All PDFs. And while yes they are using non-lego bricks they do produce some lovely models (6w German trains, WWII military equipment, and impressive looking fire trucks) Now I didn't go through each of these just a couple that intrigued me. It looks as though being "clone" brick that one could simply build it using genuine Lego. I thank the OP for sharing but I feel the context was slightly misleading to most of us looking for LEGO product not compatible product. -
I would love to know more about this lil engine ... I'm assuming a steel yard dog You've captured it quite well I'm assuming you're planning on bb/shupp medium drivers?

Looking forward to that!

[LEGO IDEAS] Soldier Imperial Golden Fort by Master0889
Roadmonkeytj replied to Mister Phes's topic in Pirate MOCs
So the following is purely my own opinion based on my personal taste. So I will start with what I don't like. When unfolded the set doesn't flow very well ... Meaning in my eye it looks more like four separate buildings than "one fort" The ship ... While a clever use of the row boats I would have rather seen a ship similar to the Imperial Trading Post in size and construction. Honestly it's easy to get a nice little ship this size ... This is Sebeus's design take on the very ship I mention. The fact you have included a great crane design but neglected to add a dock to tie the ship to be loaded The fact that threres no cannon nor stud shooters to be seen... Saying that here's what I do like... The crane ... Cleverly hidden mechanism keeping it appearing simple The fact that you can fold the fort up Playability ... Everywhere everywhere I look. The fact you include a galley! The very classic set feel. All in all it us a fitting playable set and I wish you the best of luck! -

Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Roadmonkeytj replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
An index is what I had in mind but more so a individually maintained where a player could post and update their character (s) post as they play. (Similar to the settlement It is this exact reason that I'm contemplating such a list ... Many of us that have played for some time have at least a couple key characters. Also with the BF captains now many of the players are picking up additional as it is not fitting for their sig fig This could also benefit for the NPC major characters so you don't have to dig through the forum trying to find a reference for mcra responses. I would be willing to work with someone to develop this -
I think this is another fine example of a great base design that we can make our own very sharp looking loco ... Do you have photos of your three truck attempts? Haha thanks for link ecmo47 ... Still need to get around to building that lol

Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Roadmonkeytj replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Question ... Do we have a place somewhere to capture everyone's sig fig and back story? Other than the intro threads? Something that could be a reference guide to others that wish to do collaborative works? Something like Sig fig photo Sig fig name Faction / home settlement military rank if any Trade company affiliation if any Ship(s) name(s) if a captain Back story (intro story .... can always be edited as the character evolves) Current story (short bio of current events ... Could be a running link list to story builds) The reason I ask is after doing a couple colab stories it seems I'm doing a lot of back logging trying to keep the stories jiving with the characters background. -
@Corydoras this is quite the creation! By chance do you have some higher resolution, crisper pictures? I would love to post this on classicpirates.com if you could provide them!

Very true ... The DCC card uses the voltage input to determine direction ... But something similar with colors was what I had in mind. Should have been more clear.

So as I have never used one I've done some digging THIS video was pretty eye opening. The author may be young but he does his research and makes some well informed video of ways to make Lego robotics. The interesting thing I took away from this coupled with the info you shared is that that the gyro measures angular velocity which makes sense that it can not know which direction to tilt without further input. So I do believe you can go back to using a single gyro for tilt if you use a separate sensor for speed/direction I believe this would be a good option as you could get reliable direction and speed input. I recall reading somewhere on here (forgive me for not being able to search for the op). They were adding DCC sound card to their loco and needed a speed sensor. The solution was painting a 2x2 round white brick in quartered sections with black. (I know others have glued a magnet) then powered it off the wheelsets with the sensor above. With this you could easily tell the EV3 if it should use the input of positive or negative ”tilt” then based on direction input from the rotation ”accelerometer” tell it which way to tilt.

(Moc) Narrow Gauge Dining Car and Sleeper
Roadmonkeytj replied to SteamSewnEmpire's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Thanks! I would stick to a combine as it seems more fitting for a shorter train ... But a private car with rear observation platform would be sweet way to bring up the rear instead of the traditional workman's car "caboose” -
PhillB this is brilliant ... I love the moving picture box approach ... I do believe you could animate the track however to make it look right you would have to legthen the belt so as your eye never sees the track elements fall into place. I do believe this "fits" the spirit although not what they may have had in mind lol you should add flex tubing inside your tree to help keep it together

So could a third gyro be oriented to pick up forward or reverse? Concept of course since you only have one. For now you could program it to turn on a light (which could later be used for headlights) on the end of the engine it detects movement to. The other sensors could be tested individually by limiting direction of travel to their fwd or rev orientation. Then all you would have to do is integrate the three in one program ... Theoretically of course lol Edit : in my head I picture a fwd gyro for tilt then servo on first car second car would have the movement gyro for direction the EV3 and a tilt servo third car would have a reversed gyro for tilt in opposite travel and a tilt servo. three sensors three motors (with ability to add a fourth car) and you wouldn't be scattering color tiles all over your layout ...
