[WTCM] WTC Monthly - Issue 11, October 618
Darnok replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Religious fanatics are coming to burn down the WTCM building? -
========================================================================= Another issue out in time! The full PDF: The recipe for ship biscuits comes from "Feeding Nelson's Navy" by Janet Macdonald. If you have any questions, rebuttals, or suggestions for new articles: please PM me!

With the success of the WTC Drunken Dragon, and the need for more ships, another vessel of the same design was built: With the WTC flag flying above the red and white of Corrington (as it should be), the WTC Stoned Serpent shared many characteristics with its sister ship. In exchange for some cargo capacity a selection of heavier carronades had been installed though, to give it a bigger punch in close range firepower: While some WTC Marines were eager to fire them as soon as possible... ... others were not so keen for combat. . Under its captain - sporting the glorious gold appropriate for his rank - the WTC Stoned Serpent was sailing towards the future! . ================================================================================================== Another class 2 for the growing WTC fleet. As always, C&C are welcome.

Later on the same day, Princess Isabella had already left, Agnes Mesabi was still playing billard, with a WTC crowd gathered around the table. And while Agnes enjoyed herself, Mordo had some other business to do right behind the pub. Agnes playing... ... Mordo leaving through the back door. . "Listen you two, this must not fall back on me. You get paid well, and you keep your mouths shut - if you know what is good for you. Take care of that thing with the guy in the place... make it look like an accident. You know... the usual." "Aye, Mr. M.!" Later on, the crowd left one by one, Agnes Mesabi was still playing, getting more drunk by the minute, slowly losing patience with the balls: . In the end, the game was still not finished, but the evening ended well for Lady Mesabi, snoring loudly: ============================================================================== Just a bit more detailing for the interior of the pub, some part of its backside, plus some more story to go with it all. @Mesabi: Please simply copy&paste everything above the ===-line into the OP. Feel free to add to the story if and where you want. P.S.: You wonder what Mordo is on about? Well, there is a source "keeping you informed".

Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Darnok replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Aye, I do have that as well (historical recipies in general are part of my "collectors interest"). I would love to see it! Again, I would love to see it. Please share! Ha, I know where you come from! Still: if you have an idea about a recipe themed "feeding the whole boat full of rats at once" - please let me know. Some professional input (I am at best a hobby cook) would be appreciated! I had the idea of a "BotBS Community Cookbook" before, so with some input from others there would be some material to work with. -

Wow, an excellent build! Loving all the details of the different stages of cultivation, as well as the overall "business". A lot of care has been put into every part of this MOC, brilliantly done! -
Dark Secrets on the ÃŽle d'Or - resolved
Darnok replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Congratulations to all winners, most of all @Keymonus. Well done everybody! Also many thanks to @Captain Braunsfeld and @Ayrlego for the comprehensive write-up of the results. Not enough statistics though! -
Well, that settles it, thanks for the clarification. So the search has to continue...

This is debatable. I would argue that it is: My prologue starts with the Cranky Parrot having left Elizabethville and being out "on the open sea". If you look at zone 22 here, this would mean the ship is nowhere near Lacryma, Isle de Tyche, Isla Phillip or Serentia anymore. Since the course has been set to the north, the "small island" mentioned here can only be north of Serentia. Assuming that the "mutinous mutters" (mentioned in the same part) would not begin right after the start, but only after a few days, it is also logical to assume that this small island is quite a bit away from Serentia. The fact that the island is mentioned as appearing on no charts here also supports it being a good bit away from Serentia: otherwise it would show up on maps showing the waters surrounding Serentia. In the end it is not stated clearly anywhere. What "habitable land" means is still left open too. I guess we will have to fill both issues with some IC life before resolving the payout. I think the WTC will send a second ship anyway. I already forgot the hints that there was no land to be found in that general direction.
-
Aye, a clarification would be appreciated. I am also not trying to start a fight over this - I am happy with either outcome. Not sure what you are on about here, since everything on the IC side of an AMRCA is a "story element" anyway. Nobody is calling for a stop of the AMRCAs. Again: I am not about to start a fight over this, and I am not claiming that this little island absolutely has to be the droids land we are looking for. From an IC perspective the expeditions leaders will do - they indeed found land, they have no clue about the implications of the EGS, and have a strong motivation to get the money they were promised. However, I am more than happy to put this into a side story of this AMRCA: the WTC asking for their money, the RSND refuting the claims, some back and forth via letters, maybe some IC drama, maybe another ship being sent to the north (this time westward). Please let me know if you think this is something we could constructively work with.
-
The offer from @Mike S does not mention anything related to the EGS, so this is not an issue. The offer asks to "discover and map habitable land" - the discovery being done. The island may be small and whatever, but it was definitely habitable (proof being the person living there for quite some time). However, I noticed I have yet to do the "mapping" for the story. I am sure the crew has done a map and stored it somehwere safe, it just is too much for a pigeon to carry home, so the whole "cashing in" has to wait a bit.

Am I blind, or does the account summary sheet no longer show the number and allocation of troops? Until September there was a "number of troops" column, which has gone for October it seems. Is there another way to see who - players, settlements or other game entities - have troops, plus where they are? Thanks in advance!

Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Darnok replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
The biggest issue with food on ships in the Age of Sail is: it was not the least bit interesting in a culinary sense. Most of it boils down to "OMG, they actually ate this $#17!?" for todays taste. Travelling on board of a ship during those times was tough, and the food was part of the challenge. Interesting in terms of history? Definitely. Funny for a pirate themed party? Most likely. Delicious and tasty? Maybe once in a blue moon. What I take from the responses so far is that there is an interest for these kinds of recipes though. I have... material to offer... -
Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Darnok replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Wait, what? All the articles in the WTCM are carefully researched, and report the truth, the truth, and nothing but the truth. From a certain point of view... -
I will wait for the GMs to confirm, so far this is only IC talk. Yes, there was that little island found, and no, it is not on any maps so far. OOC: what I have taken from this AMRCA so far is that there is no serious land to be found north of Serentia. I ignored quite a few winks with a wooden pole...

Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Darnok replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
A question to everybody: As you may be aware, I put a recipe into each issue of the "WTC Monthly". So far they have all been contemporary, and not always chosen with the Age of Sail or BotBS in mind. Would people be interested in more historically accurate recipes? For example, I do own "Feeding Nelson's Navy" by Janet Macdonald, and could use quite a lot from it. The question is: are people interested? So far I got little cosntructive feedback on the WTCM in general, and none at all about the recipes. So I wonder what people would like to see. -
What is not to like about a drowned rat?
-
Great little rowboat there! The colours chosen work great for Oleon, and I like the combination of prefab hull parts and brick-built hull on top. A neat design overall. The crewman having a picknick in the rowboat is a hilarious detail! The only thing I would change in the future is to dust off the parts used. The dirt really detracts from an otherwise great presentation. All in all: well done, now give those filthy pirates a run for their money!

A question concerning Black Flags: Assume two fleets from the same player, both flying the Black Flag, both sailing through the same zones in a turn, both set up to attack Black Flag ships of all factions (including the own). Would these two fleets attack each other? -

Brilliant little build, very "sea ratty" in character. Nice use of the trans-plates for the water effect. -
I loved the first version, and this one is just as awesome. Good to see the Komodo Dragon back in action!
