  1. In their Lego Neighborhood Book 2, The Lyles brothers have pictures of a near perfect building for Wayne Industries. An Art Deco office tower with a nice Bat symbol on the front. Not to far from your second picture. Alright, I just picked up a copy of that book and took a look. Ya know, while you could say that's a bat being portrayed there, I'm pretty sure they were rather evoking the sculpture ornamenting the front of the Niagara Mohawk Building:
  2. I would love this homage to classic cinema. As so not to be too "on-the-nose" with the character, this concept art I discovered recently is a pretty good example for what I'd wish to see design-wise for such an archetype inspired after the Maschinenmensch: Deviant Art - Art Deco Robot by DESMONDDx
  3. If you think about the naming of both themes, they do imply pretty much the same thing. So, who's to say Speed Champions couldn't eventually evolve into Racers' true spiritual successor by someday expanding their horizons beyond minifig-scaled licensed automobiles?
  4. By "umbrella" themes, I'm referring to lines that have multiple concurrent subthemes and/or coverage of multiple subject matters independent of a shared storyline, setting, or set of characters. City, Friends*, Technic, Creator, traditional Collectable Minifigures, and Juniors are good examples of such current/recent themes, while the same can be said for Disney, BrickHeadz, and DC/Marvel SuperHeroes in the licensed department. * Friends may have set characters and a particular setting, but its City-like subtheme structure warrants its "umbrella" status at least for me.
  5. This interview by Beyond the Brick with @spaceman76 from then should deserve a mention here...
  6. Hey, I see @spaceman76 was interviewed last year by Beyond the Brick for his stunner of a layout!!!
  7. Well, for me, I definitely welcome both approaches, just not at the possible expense of the latter for a prolonged period of time. Since this subject was brought up concurrently over at another discussion topic, I'll just quote myself from there:
  8. Kinda as with LEGO Space, I'm always perplexed by so many fans' response to anyone proposing the revival of an older playtheme, as many jump to the presumption that the suggestion of such means bringing that line back as it was verbatim. When I started that topic on reviving Racers in the Special Themes subforum, it was exclusively under the personal lamentation of mine that Racers was more of a multifaceted umbrella theme, whereas Speed Champions had set itself up under only one particular niche. Yes, much of Racers' offerings over the years were definitely inferior to the quality and design of most of TLG's more recent offerings; but, I do solely admire Racers for its City-like subtheme structure rather than its actual offerings. Again, going back to @Aanchir, he does makes a solid case for Racers' nonexistence currently, as many of its subthemes make themselves more at home under other preexisting themes; but still, I guess I'd kinda wish to see Speed Champions become a part of something a little bigger, as it really can't fit under any other preexisting theme. Heh, alright, I'm being a bit nitpicky here; but, I personally wouldn't consider Ninjago an umbrella theme.
  9. Yes, which on one hand I might take some issue with; but, on the other, if they're going to introduce all these ridiculous headgear molds for CMF Furries... Ya' know?
  10. For me at least, an entire CMF series inspired after Fabuland (i.e. Anthropomorphic City Dwellers) would be much more worthwhile than what Series 18 had offered us.

  12. Good point, but at the same time, not every idea for a subtheme that fits under the Racers umbrella can be as easily rehomed under other preexisting themes. For instance, many have noted in the past how the City theme has become a foster home of sorts for exploration-based genres that would have otherwise been found under the umbrella of action/adventure themes. It's a good solution for the mean time, but not quite perfect, as City's modern realism limits the context of such sets.
  13. I've always thought of that as an excellent idea for a themed CMS; but, when you put it that way, yeah, I can totally it see working in that case as a commemorative CMS for the occasion come then! Well, for me at least, I definitely prefer well-executed reimaginings over straight-up remakes when paying homage to such!
  14. Thinking about further commemorative possibilities for Series 20, honestly, perhaps it'd just be better if they just do Series 10 (2.0). I feel that it'd be too soon after Series 18 to do another themed series, so doing a otherwise normal CMS with an additional commemorative Mr. Gold-esque figure might be best.
  15. As I've proposed here earlier, a color scheme for the upcoming sets' spacecraft that lightly pays homage to Classic Space would be the best I'd hope for in those regards. Realistically, that could take the form of shuttlecraft with a predominately Light Bluish Grey base color rather than just typical White, and perhaps some subtle Bright Blue striping with Trans-Yellow porthole windows rather than full-on panoramic canopies.
  16. I'd gladly welcome the return of the Racers theme, but not at the expense of Speed Champions, as I'd rather wish to see that become a subtheme under a much broader Racers umbrella theme. Actually, that's what we need more of nowadays: UMBRELLA THEMES.
  17. I'm wagering she's from the rumored D2C rather than an unannounced LEGO Ideas set or Disney Series 2, as leaks for those are somewhat more commonplace than from either of the latter mentioned.
  18. Excellent set concepts @ShadowWolfHount! I've always thought a Studios subtheme for City would make for a most novel line!
  19. Wow, after looking at that user's original sketch, I almost wonder if he's @kobalt1977, as that mech vaguely resembles his Emerald Golem:
  20. Heh, I just realized looking at it again right now that it's technically a microscale build.
  21. To me, it aesthetically resembles a Creator Three-In-One set, if it were medieval-themed that is!
  22. Yeah, that's pretty much the gist of it. The thing is though, I believe these sets will only be using preexisting part inventory.
