I usually try to colorcode things a little, but keep the overall appearance as smooth (colorwise) as possible. Because I almost always use the LBG frames in car chassis, chassis automatically becomes LBG or DBG for me (might change now though with black frames appearing...). Since core parts for gearboxes are red, drivetrain becomes red (axles, axle connectors etc.). And I mostly use the yellow shocks, so suspension (including steering) is yellow (apart from the actual suspension arms), together with other manual controls. Then I use black for connecting bodywork parts to the chassis (also to visually fill up possible gaps), and mostly also for interior itself. Haven't tried black for bodywork yet, but it should fit in above colorcoding scheme. It's just a personal preference, partly also based on available parts in certain colors. But I have A LOT of black parts (from older sets) in my collection, so I could also do black chassis without issues. Just doesn't feel right having LBG frames on black chassis, it loses coherency IMHO.

Looking impressive so far... Few questions out of interest: How do you plan on controlling the gears, D-N-R selector on center console and paddle shifters at steering column for gear change? Or all from single shifter (I see only 1 shifter in center console...) And how will you control the brakes? Mini-pump under foot pedal would be awesome (but not very playable I think). Or an air tank and the valve attached to foot pedal with spring for auto release... I would love to see dark azure bodywork, seems like a very good color to work with. I am designing my current MOC in such a way that it should be buildable in dark azure as well, but having a secondary/contrast color is mandatory given the available parts (I chose red on mine). Will be following this one for sure

Mac OS security fix
Rudivdk replied to doug72's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I haven't experienced any issues (wasn't active during that particular timeslot), but I've seen other members discussing site connectivity issues for about 3 to 4 hours last night in other threads as well. Probably just Eurobricks site maintenance indeed. -
The idea is to have one motor, which can be switched to either side of the model. One side is for drive, the other side is for arm/bucket. It's like a predecessor of 42070's switching gearbox... I have the model, but I never tried to fit two motors at the same time. Would probably not work, because when the battery is switched on it starts to drive right away, so you can't control the functions properly. I think it would require 2nd batterybox to make it work independent... Codepilot has only one motor channel/output, so you can't control multiple motors independently with one codepilot alone.

Holes in Technic MOCs
Rudivdk replied to Alex Ilea's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Same for me, I always try to fill everything as smooth as possible (which means sometimes there will be small gaps if no proper parts can fit), only gaps in roof I create are for roof window. But it all depends on builders taste. Some builders want to expose all technical marvels inside their models... And maybe available parts in builders collection (I for example never buy loose parts from bricklink, only official sets). -
Same here, big thanks to TLG for still being awesome after so many years and such rough competition in the market. Hooked for over 30 years now (didn't even have any 'dark ages'), and very thankful to be able to share the love with my two sons now!

Technic 2018 Set Discussion
Rudivdk replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Now for some serious observations again... 42082 has loads of minipanels in red, even at the dash in the cabin and the tip of the mast. Don't think I've ever seen a set with such a large number of 'em... And what's up with the backside, the black end of the superstructure looks twice as long as in the small image at the top... Some opening door for easy BB removal? Or weird photo angle again? -

Sorry for that, but color was just so strikingly similar I couldn't resist... Didn't want to spark speculations again. I'll just be a good boy now and wait patiently. -

About 42083... possibly a new supercar, sudden wave of dark azure sets/parts, mixed reception on 42056... second take? 911 GT2 RS... -

It's probably just the angle or the light, but it almost looks like new tyres on 42079... Seems like more rounded sides than regular tyres. -

Are the mini panels on 42080 new in lime as well (cabin)? Haven't seen them in lime before... And it has 2 of each! -
[TC13] Twinrotor helicopter
Rudivdk replied to Rudivdk's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanx for the compliments! I think fitting and securing panels on the tail won't be a problem, but I do not have any more of the medium azure panels (only have the pullback stunt truck in that color and used all of them already), and I also don't have them in DBG (yet...). Maybe I'll put black panels for now... -

The result of another evening well spent: I'm quite pleased with the result, although I think the side view is not totally convincing yet. Will leave this at rest for a few days and see if it can be improved later. -

Or remove the 'automatic screen rotation' lock in settings if above does not work. -

Cool, another non-typical pullback implementation. This is gonna be an interesting contest for sure. Mechanism works nice, looking forward to see where this will end up. Good luck in contest! -
Now that is something else than your average pullback model... I have no idea how you would be building this (I am totally not into clockworks), but I will be following with interest. Good luck in competition!

So when I read about TC13, I first had something huge in mind... But actually I think the pullback series are cute because of what they are: small, simple and quite fast. So I decided to keep in the spirit of official pullbacks, and keep it small. However, I did not go for the obvious racer or offroader car, I want to do something not done before (at least not by TLG). So I went for a helicopter. The type was not a difficult decision: after watching barmans incredible avatar helicopter numerous times, I wanted to do one myself. So how to make a pullback work without any wheels... Here is the proof of concept result of tinkering an evening with two pullback motors and some rotors: And a video of it in action. I'm actually quite happy with the way it works, although it does not use the full extend of the windup mechanism. So I'll stay with this concept and try to refine the looks in the coming period.

There's two more of them on the rear bottom as well (behind diffusor mounting). But as said before, there just is not enough part variation in this shade (at this moment at least) to really work with. Well, at least I can scrap medium blue/red as second colorscheme for my new MOC now... -
This thing looks great! I love the silhouette, and all the controls are awesome. Don't think I have ever seen a helicopter MOC with tail rotor pitch control! Amazing you were able to fit it all in this scale. Awesome job! Now if TLG were looking along... it's about time for a new heli in the official line-up, and this is how it should be done

Wow, you've got some crazy techniques going on there when it comes to bracing and rigidity. And I thought I was overdoing it when I built my familycar.... Very nice job sofar, this thing might end up surviving the Topgear Toyota Landcruiser tests...
