Shipwrights Guild Hall (WIPs, feedback, and advice)
Thomas Waagenaar replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Well, it "looks" give or take the same. And to be honest, I'm not really interested in making it functional, if you get what I mean? As long as it looks pretty good I'm happy . It's set up very sturdily whilst pre-prepared. I only made the bottom lines pre-application, and then started doing the ratlines one by one to the mast and ensuring their tension. Inside the technic pin is actually an elastic rope/wire thingy, that ensures their tension at all times. And it's absolutely extremely sturdy too. I've accidentely bumped into the masts with plates and glasses and nothing has shifted (Ship is placed on the dining table at the moment). ^^ What I complain about being delicate isn't the lines and their connectionsthemselves, it's that I made a poor choice of rope lol. Basically if I "twist" the rope between my fingers, the neat little texture of them looking braided dissapears and they just become 6 induvidual strings. Next ship I'll probably be buying a different type of rope... I tried that, but the L32 axles aren't long enough to reach the hull properly, so the masts are being held strongly in place purely by the rigging so far. But it works, for now... -

Haha, my rigging actually already is like how yours is, but with some added details ^^. Just haven't done the ratlines, I got some ideas for how to do them easily (as to be honest, I don't feel like spending 2 weeks doing just ratlines ;) ). Basically I'm thinking of using a needle to pull a tiny string through the vertical lines and then just dropping tiny dots of glue on each connection to secure it. And then (if I feel like it) I'll just make some tiny knots on their connection point, but that's only if I truly feel up to the task lol ^^ -

Rigging is going slowly... Very... Very... Slowly... (My hands are just too big for this, so it takes forever lol). But eventually we're getting somewhere! First stage of the rigging one done! I'm going to skip over the horizontal rat lines to be honest, since I'm just too clumsy to get it done nicely. Plus the rope is relatively fine weaving and I don't want to destroy the texture of it by accident, which I've done plenty times making the current rigging. L'Aurelie by Thomas Waagenaar -

Looks cute! Definitely not the same as the source but honestly that doesn't matter in this case :P. Smart part usage to make those pulleys at the side! -

Looks good! Really liking the fall colours, and the white birds make for a really nice contrast. I agree with Spud though, perhaps plating some of them or adding cheese slops over the hollow studs would have looked nicer.- 8 replies

[GoC ] The Long Journey (Mendonça's Story 2)
Thomas Waagenaar replied to Ayrlego's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Looks really cool! I'm a massive fan of the thick looking mangrove forest. Really makes it set as if it's in the swamps of New Orleans! -
At the edge of Pilton, a new farm was constructed to supply food for the evergrowing town. A small farmers family lives here. With their house on the right, the storage shed on the left. In the middle of the field is an old but dead tree, too big and cumbersome, and also 'dangerous' to remove... Microscale farm My first attempt at something microscale ever... Honestly wasn't sure what to do and how to do it, but I'd say the result is "acceptable"... Definitely not my finest thing ever. :P Anyhow, this includes both my small micro-license (3rd place in category B and medium micro-license, participation award). - Medium plantation (The main area) - Small commerce (The storage shed/barn)

That looks really cute! Loving the colours and the little waterwheel! And good reminder too, before October first, right? -

That looks really nice! I am a big fan of the colour scheme! (Not sure about the purple path to be honest) And I really dig the fact that you put the building at an angle in-between the other buildings, makes it looks really nice and playful! -

[COR - ChIVE] ETTC Villa, Terraversan Interior
Thomas Waagenaar replied to Ayrlego's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
That looks really good! I don't suppose you got some close-ups of that tree on the left? I'd definitely love to make some trees like that in the future! -
In Silitholina, now divided in a North and South side, is an old bridge. whilst originally not of much importance, with many of the bridges connecting both sides having been destroyed, it has become an important stategic point between the Oleonese Territories in the North and the Commonwealth of Terraversa in the South. Where as both nations have set up fortifications or turned old-existing fortifications into important checkpoints on both sides of the river. They decided to turn a small islet in the center of the river into a place of exchange where trade can happen freely between merchants and citizens of either nation. On the Oleonese side, an old existing fortification that was built on the bridge was turned back to life. With a new reinforced gate and cannons watching the other side of the river. Checkpoint North-Silitholina Checkpoint North-Silitholina Soldiers standing watch at the bridge aswell as in the building looking over the bridge. Checkpoint North-Silitholina The gate is a classic-medieval drop-down gate, intended to slow the enemy from advancing whilst being able to return fire through the holes! Checkpoint North-Silitholina Two soldiers inspecting a cannon, they have to make sure they're in a good state in case it'll ever be needed! Checkpoint North-Silitholina One of the soldiers being distracted by a flock of seagulls flying overhead, they've probably come to steal his lunch. Other parts of this collab together with @Bregir and @KotZ can be found here: "Checkpoint South" by Bregir "Center-River Trading Zone" by KotZ -- OOC: I've really been wanting to make something like this, it originally started as me wanted to try something like the classic Sabre-Island, but I ended up changing geometry and colours to fit the theme more. The most annoying part was definitely randomising the tiles on used for the cobble street. It just takes so long digitally. Same for the trees, in real bricks they take maybe 5 minutes to make, digitally? I spent 1h total on the four of them... Anyhow, can probably be licensed as a small (building itself) or medium (if the bridge etc gets counted too) fort in North-Silitholina. I don't intend to do it myself as I don't have the funds for it. If someone else on the Oleonese side wants to, feel free to! You hereby have my permission! ^^

Good to hear! I wasn't sure since she's still a frigate after all. 😅 -
[SR - Ch IV - Cat. F] Baywatch
Thomas Waagenaar replied to Professor Thaum's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Looks really good! From the staircase to the hut on top, it just works so well. I love how you managed to make those BURP's look so well combined with the rest! Only thing I'm missing is the sunny beach with some sexy lifeguards running down it, although come to think of that. That is probably a different Baywatch ;) -

I'm gonna go ahead and post the progress on my current ship aswell. L'Aurelie is a 46 gun heavy frigate, with 30x 24 pdr long gun on the bottom deck and 16x 18 pdr long gun on the top deck. Of which 2 are aft-chasers and 2 are bow-chasers. She's about 80cm long on the waterline (75cm if pure main-hull). With in the background the 3 in 1 creator ship for scale. Went quite a bit above budget too... But hey, the brick-built parts are done! Just the rigging left! I'm hoping to license her as a Class 8, given her size (Over 1.5x as long as required for a class 7. No multiple decks but I'm hoping her overall size compensates for that :p) and firepower capabilities etc compared to other class 7's. (Let me know if this is reasonable please ^^) Hoping to finish her somewhere this month/early next month! -

That looks really good so far! Not sure about the dark green though, I think it would look neater in all red with the tan "gun ports" as accent colour. Perhaps if you do decide to keep with green/red, stack the green on top of the red so it becomes a horizontal accent colour rather than just in the front. But she definitely looks good so far! -
Arrival of the Elephants, Jameston

It looks stunning! The green plants/trees together with the orange really match nicely to give it that exotic feel! I'll also definitely be borrowing that tree design with the tube and leaves! :P -

Looks good! Looks similar to your previous one but it somehow feels more right. Can't wait to see her in real bricks! (You will build her with real bricks, right? Given the comment on the sails)
