LEGO Hidden Side 2020
Lucarex replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I mentioned earlier this had NK vibes, but not in the sense you’re suggesting. THIS wave 3 of HS is that terrible half-baked part-cancelled “vampire tech byter” wave 4 that made no sense which Lego just dialled in. Talking of which, we haven’t seen the Castle leaked alongside the other sets. Sure it’s only been 24hrs but still, it wouldn’t be unheard of for the flagship set of a last wave to get axed. Let’s face it, Castle or not, HS is finished judging by these other sets, significant parts of which look like they were worked on by interns not lead designers. Then there is the JB’s Guide to Ghost Hunting book that was available to preorder on Amazon, which now looks like it has been cancelled and the next (final?) issue of the magazine due this week (according to the last issue in March) has been postponed for a further 2 months until June, although it’s possible that could be due to the virus lockdown I suppose? (p.s. They did give Nexo a conclusion of sorts, it was in a last issue of the magazine released late last year IIRC). -

Haha, I have murderous thoughts seeing that “face”. Hopefully for those buying the set, it’ll just be stickers. When that shark leaked a few weeks back (alongside the new City hammerhead and great white sharks) I think we’ll felt that - a simple recolour in spring green (like the tan crocodile we got in wave 1) would have made all the difference. Cost-cutting on a soon-to-be mothballed theme, is the only conclusion. Even the creepy glow in dark anglerfish has now been revealed to be a City animal not HS. And the wetsuited Parker (with headphones???) isn’t anything special we haven’t seen before, very generic. The possessed diver from the Lighthouse is a much better fig IMO. -

@HarkonenAs for 2021 wish lists, based on seeing these leaks, I’m back to my original thinking in that the theme is now done IMO. Well if wave 2 sold poorly, then by the looks of it, wave 3 isn’t going to reverse that trend! Wave 1 High School was great for the transformative features alone, likewise the Shrimp Shack and Fishing Trawler, and from Wave 2 the Lighthouse and Portal were decent. But everything else has been subpar if I’m honest. -

Meh I don’t see it. A fire truck of sorts with a brick-built evil black figure? Can’t see it being a massive seller at the likely 59.99 price point Well at least this ends the matter of your “source” when you first joined. -

Look at the dorsal fin rudder...it has a printed/stickered picture of JB, so guess the title must refer to the fact it just belongs to her (like most other vehicles) and the others have borrowed it in the new storyline, whatever that is. @Fenghuang0296 Sure, I’ll look to get crossbow Vaughn, the knight and maybe the statue, but that’s about it. I suspect we’ll get Vaughn in a HS magazine polybag at some point. Even my kid (who loves HS) is clearly disappointed seeing these pics and is just hoping for the Castle now. Makes it cheaper on the parental wallet at least ? ***Overall then: Maybe I’m letting my initial impression disappointment cloud things here, but I’m getting Nexo wave 4 vibes here, in that the story doesn’t really hang together, the sets are a bit meh, the villains aren’t great, and the theme is done. At least give us a fantastic Castle, please!!! -

Oh c’mon...where’s the Castle already?! That’s the one we’re all waiting to see. None of these 4 are particularly great as entire sets, there’s little left of the Monster Fighters vibe. Such a missed opportunity, and given the weird and wonderful new moulds in other themes, a really lazy cost-based decision. I mean why make expensive physical Boss ghosts (that are actually on the box art with the minifigs FFS) when you can simply and cheaply create them on the AR app instead. -
Thanks ??

@Roebuck where’s that azure fish from? The only blue one I’ve seen/have (not the orange and black) is the light blue one that came in TLNM CMFs most recently.

I would take those prices given on IG with a pinch of salt, probably adjusted by 30% for Chinese market. Fairly sure it’ll be standard PPP rates, as theme is in-house not licensed. -
Nice spot! (On the HQ boat set, deck next to the bigfig in case anyone else is wondering)

Sums up my thoughts exactly. Easy pass. And I say that despite some childhood nostalgia for the 80's tv series Monkey. Nice sets, interesting parts/build but like with Overwatch, there's just no great appeal here. I'm sure the theme will sell well in China, which let's be honest, is clearly the primary aim here for LEGO. -

Does that red banner text say FINAL ARTWORK? -
Yep, the zombie shark was easily available for the €10-15 mark, not bad considering it was a unique (and very cool) animal mould from a €200 set.

Not according to that last webisode we won’t, but that’s no great loss IMO. Just like we didn’t get human form Monstrox in NK (who as a villain, was so much more than Lady E). Not holding my breath for any “big” ghosts in the Castle, just a number of minifigs like the High School. We’ve already seen the black possessed knight. -
Whoa, way to start a feeding frenzy! Confirmed as an S&H error unfortunately for those wanting one, it remains exclusive to Billund only. Got around to building mine a couple of weeks ago, a really gorgeous set.

I think “book” is stretching it given it’s got 32 pages, same as the HS magazine. There is supposedly a 128-page book “JB’s guide to ghost hunting” coming out in August but that may have been cancelled. They’re teenagers...that’s the point ?. As for Lady E, meh she’s a fairly one-dimensional villain. The other boss ghosts’ had much better characters (with death backstories) like Capt Archibald and the Mr Hyde scientist “love interest” of JB. Those were deserving of big figs, but we won’t see that sadly. -

Didn’t have to wait too long ? Ok, so this makes it an easy space-saving, wallet-sparing decision. The underwater base is THE pick of them all, and I’ll look to get the GWS and anglerfish separately. -

Not lost all hope yet, waiting for the sets that contain the new hammerhead and GW sharks. -
Yep said as much myself. It’s a comfort blanket and reliable revenue generator that TLG is absolutely petrified to let go of, no matter how tired and flaky it gets.

Such a lack of coherent elements, this theme seems to be suffering an identity crisis even before it launches! -

Not to mention the lack of wildlife. A single shark?! That can’t be right surely... -

Where exactly were these preliminary images “out” 2 weeks ago? Looking at the massive boat again, if that’s the final content, it’s really lacking as a set. Compare with the fantastic Deep Sea Explorer set 60095 from 2014 which had a large floating boat with winch and shark cage, a seabed partial shipwreck with gold treasure, a small submersible, 2 mini subs, 4 divers, 1 underwater welder, 3 sharks (2 grey, 1 white) 1 sawfish, and an octopus. -

The previous one did. Was a highlighted feature back then. Also notice what looks like the GITD anglerfish in the submersible set, off as it was earmarked for the Hidden Side sub (it may appear in both of course). Still holding out hope the set with the hammerhead shark will be a big improvement on these two. -

Well both leaked sets look hugely disappointing and not a patch on their equivalent 2014 predecessor sets. At least the NatGeo stingray/coral/diver polybag looks good value. -

Surely I can’t be the only one wondering if it will fit “inside” the empty inner space (approx 48 x 20 studs) of the Creator 3-in-1 pirate rollercoaster ?
