You forgot the third. My lousy memory. As for the amount of Lego. Can anyone have as much as Blakbird! -
LEGO 3D Instructions

I agree. In my limited experience building from the instructions generated by LDD they're impractical to the point of being almost unusable on larger builds. -
[REVIEW] - 8416 Forklift

Very nice review. Thank you. Seeing it reminded me that when I built mine a year or more ago I had it put away until pics could be taken. This is the first time I've thought about it until now so will have to get it got out. One problem. It's been so long I can't for the life of me remember where it was put! -
Love it!

Instantly recognisable. I don't know how you build it but I'm soooooo very glad you did. It's astonishing! -
AC Cobra [WIP]
grum64 replied to grum64's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I've thought that several times throughout the 'build' but I can't decide though whether it's the front or rear. Each time I look at it it looks different. I think I'll build it as is and see how it looks 'in the brick'. When looking at a blueprint it does seem as if the rear is a little too long: The model I'm trying to reverse build is this beauty: -
It's been pointed out that this would have been better in a new Topic so here it is. My mistake. Humble apologies etc., for double posting albeit under different titles. Please could a moderator remove the Help Needed post. Thank you. Any future Cobra posts will be posted here. Update on progress. Firstly, and with apologies for going off on an entirely different tangent, you may have read in another post that I've started building the Airtech Rig. Unfortunately this has yet to start as my Gilly, my Wife, is ill & unable to get the set for me. I'll make a start when she's well. I've not been idle though, I've put the time I'd have spent building to good use by working (LDD) on the front of the Cobra and after a several days work I've now got something I'm quite happy with. At least it looks fairly Cobraish. The gaps under the headlights and above the wedge pieces I'll sort out during the brick build. As for the rear. I've got most of it done but can't seem to get one part right. I've lost count of how many weeks I've spent on it with no satisfactory results so I posted a topic in the General Discussion forum asking for advice. Following that request a very kind Eurobricks member has offered to take a look at the .lxf file and give me some advice for which I'm very grateful. In the mean time I'll keep at it. It's still very much a WIP but I'd appreciate any constructive criticism.

Benefits from building at a standing table?

Yes, I get an enormous amount of satisfaction from the whole building process and a good measure of, well, pride I suppose when I see the end result. I guess that's the same for all of us, I don't think we'd build otherwise. Touching on what you say about rushing through instructions. We all build our own way and that's fine & dandy but I've never understood the rush to get a model built. Surely some of the enjoyment is lost when all you focus on is the end result. If you're working to a deadline, say for a competition, that's different but if there's no pressure like that to get a model built why impose it? I know it may sound corny but to me, building is like life. It's about the journey not the destination. Thank you. I was a tinkerer by nature and up until my accident raced karts & bikes from a young age so I'd taken a good few engines apart but I don't remember any of them giving me as much grief as the LEGO ones do

CAT D9 Bulldozer MOC
grum64 replied to Teo LEGO Technic's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Looks really good. Whether it's a Komatsu or CAT I can't say, I'll leave that to those more knowledgeable. I'll just agree with what else everyone has said. For a first MOC it's brilliant. Just brilliant. Very well done. -
Thank you all for your very kind comments. I'm chuffed with the build time of the 'Rod, in fact I surprised myself. The build was pretty straight forward really. As usual the 'engine' was a pain to assemble but that's normal for me. However, the award for the most frustrating part of the whole process goes to Step 51 Stage 2. Try as I might I couldn't get the assembled part into that 17 Panel so I tried disassembling it and doing it piece by piece. Anyway, cutting a long story short, Step 51 Step 2 took over 40 minutes! The Airtech awaits...

For Christmas Jake & George (with, I suspect, a little help from Gilly) bought me the 42022 Hot Rod. It was a nice little set which I was pleased to complete in 3 afternoons and an evening, about 16hrs all together which is something of a record for me with a set this size. Sorry about the pics. The light wasn't very good & they were taken with a mobile by a friend. I've got more afternoons free now so can get back to building. I've got a lot of catching up to do as I didn't have much time last year. I've got 60+ sets of which I've probably built 20-25% so have a plenty to do. I will get round to building them but I want to have a go at Jurgen's Ultimate 42009. I've got two 42009's and am in the process of collecting the extra parts I need. I'm going start the 8868 Airtech Claw Rig tomorrow afternoon which will bide the time until I have them. I'm looking forward to building the Airtech. I've been meaning to do it ever since it was recommended to me when I first joined Eurobricks.

Hi Bonox To be honest, the diff housings with the inner recess don't make too much difference. Getting the axles through the bevel gear without dislodging them is the trick. I've an idea in mind to hopefully make it easier. I'll build it on LDD eventually but my LDD time, an hour or so most evenings, is taken up with the Cobra at the moment. I'm starting the Air Claw Tech Rig tomorrow afternoon which has 2 diffs, engine and a plethora of pneumatic hoses. Should be fun!

Have you tried 3M's Command Strips? We use them all the time for hanging pictures etc,. They come in different sizes. http://www.3mdirect.co.uk/command-strip-products/command-picture-mirror-hanging-strips-large-18kg-for-hanging-pictures-1.html Hope this helps. Edit Opps... Note to self. Read topic thoroughly before posting reply!

Whist this is perfectly true, there are 2 things that challenge/frustrate me more than just about anything else: 1. Assembling engines. The crankshafts are fiddly little buggers to assemble, a nightmare at the best of times. Once assembled, getting all of the pistons into the cylinders at the same time without the crankshaft coming apart can be a right royal pain in the proverbial! 2. Assembling diffs. Getting the 3 bevel gears in place can be particularly difficult but getting them all to stay there while inserting the axles can be 'a tad troublesome'!!!
