  1. Welcome to Eurobricks. It's good to have you with us. I'm very impressed by your work & look forward to seeing more of it.
  2. If you set about cutting a groove in a 2x1 plate using a circular saw I think you'd best change your user name to KitKat
  3. Ain't that the truth! As for giving up, I think you know me better than that Thank you for your support though.
  4. Hi JGW3000 Good to hear from you again. I hope you're well. Where possible I always do use connectors etc., to stop axles falling out but today was one of those days where logical thought was notable only by it's absence.
  5. WOW! How did I miss this?! It seems there's simply no end to your talents.
  6. Build Day 5 - 23/02/2015 As much as I've enjoyed today's building, it's also been, in parts, the most frustrating day of the build so far. The source of my frustrations? Steps 1-12 / Page 61-67. If it wasn't me having a problem actually fixing parts it was the section of the build moving out of alignment/shape while I was trying to affix parts. Then there was the axles that kept falling out before 'locked in place' and to make matters worse, in my frustration I made a mistake that went unnoticed until just before the end of the days building. The eagle eyed amongst you will have no doubt spotted 'the intruder' but for those who can't spot the little blighter, it's indicated on the last picture. Here's today's build pics My mistake? The axle indicated is a 12L instead of the correct 10L. No building for the next few days but when I do get back to it I know what my first job is going have to be. With that in mind, I don't want to have to disassemble the whole section so I aim to push the 12L out using the 10L, butting one up to the other as tightly as possible to avoid the gears etc falling out. Eyes of needles come to mind!
  7. Hi Paul Hope a all well with you. Having just bought an 8369 Dirt Crusher RC I thought I'd read a few reviews and whist doing so came across this on Brickset. I can't find the name of the reviewer so I can't credit him. I'm not sure how helpful it'll be but, if you've not seen this or considered using the Dirt Crusher this way before, it could be 'food for thought' ...The most impressive part of the set was the motor and gearbox. After about a week i decided to experiment with it. I cracked open the drivetrain cover and revoved the motors, servos and other electronics and combined them with the 8880 super car. This is still a work in progress but so far everything works and i highly recomened anyone who has a 8880 super car and the dirt crusher, and any technical know-how to try this...
  8. My 8110 has been dismantled but from what I recall placing the battery box centrally at the front of the load bed did provide an adequate solution to the ‘Mogs (to me) irritating lopsided appearance. As I didn’t add an airtank to my ‘Mog I’ve no idea if one will fit in the space left by resiting the battery box. It might but I’ll leave that to members far more talented than I to answer. I know it's not exactly groundbreaking but I used the empty space to house a pole reverser so the air pump could be operated independently of the drive and steering motors. Some had fitted it behind the left front wheel but I couldn’t get it in so I fitted a base plate into bottom of the battery compartment and the pole reverser fitted in quite nicely. The space also allowed me to hide the wires including the extension lead needed to extend the air pump motor lead. If I remember rightly, you could fit a second pole reverser in the vacated battery compartment and use it for lights on your 'Mog. If you’re interested the pics are here: http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=69470 It's up to you of course but I'd ignore the method I used to motorise the steering, other members have far better solutions.
  9. Thank you. I had a feeling there might be. I think I'll get one and see what it can do. Thanks again.
  10. Just wondering if anyone had built this incorporating an SBrick? I ask as the present controller arrangement makes the finished build almost unuseable to me.
  11. Thank you, you're very kind. It's been an enjoyable build so far.
  12. Thank you for you kind words & for the good advice which echoes one of my two building rules. Try not to build if I've got the hiccups. Don't build at meal times
  13. I know it's not much but besides adding motors for drive and steering to my 'Mog the one other mod I made that I'd recommend is to move the battery box to the front of the load bed to help cure the dreaded lean caused by being in its original position. Of course this rather depends on what you do with the load bed. Above all enjoy the build. It's a truly awesome set.
  14. Thank you Edwin, you're always very kind. I'm not so sure those who know me would agree about my big mouth being helpful though As for progress, I've not made as much as I'd like due to time constraints but I'm happy none the less.
  15. Build Day 4 - 21/02/2015 Nothing much to say about today's build other than I didn't have as long as I'd have liked hence there being not to much in the way of progress. Here's the pics.
  16. I was going to leave a comment but suddenly I feel so very unworthy!
  17. Thank you. I'm pleased with progress. The build's been hard but fun. I recommend you get & build this if you can. Keep a lookout for a cheap used 42009. That's what I did. Sorry my posts aren't as informative or entertaining as some but I'm not very good with words. As for the pictures, my Wife will be taking over photographic duties so things should improve.
  18. Build Day 3 - 19/02/2015 After a few days of I'll health I'm back firing on all cylinders and building again. Not much to say about today's build really other than it's been flippin' difficult at times but with this build I've a feeling that's going to be the norm. Thankfully though it has been completely devoid of mistakes so I'm a very happy grum. I have to apologise again for some of the photos. I think I'm going to have to ask my Wife if she'll take them. David Bailey I most certainly am not. Anyway, here's today's build pics
  19. Hi Graydingo Thank you for answering my question so quickly. I've checked the instructions I'm using and the rendering errors you mention are indeed still there. I downloaded the copy I'm using a few days before I started building so they're only a few weeks old at the most. Thank you also for the heads up about the front steering rack & pinion. I'll make sure to be very careful when I get that far. Good luck with your entry in the TC6 competition.
  20. Hi Guys Hoping someone has a moment to check something for me. Page 51 Step 10 shows 2x 4L axles with stop as parts needed but I can only find 1 being used. Is this a mistake on the instructions or am I not seeing the 2nd one in the picture? I don't want to keep building and find out later that the 2nd one was there and have to dismantle the builf to correct it. I'd be grateful for any & all help. Thank you.
  21. Thank you for your kind words. I've looked at your posts in the Ultimate 42009 thread. Do you know if the corrections to the things you pointed out have been updated into Jurgens instructions? Thank you.
  22. Good Evening Good to hear from you again. I hope you are well. Yes, I'm definately enjoying building it. It's been a while since I built anything really challenging so I thought I'd have a go at this. I must say Jurgen's done an amazing job. As for it not being a ship, I can't argue with that. There's 2 reasons why not. 1. I can't afford the 120000 parts. 2. With my build area being one end of a table in a 4m conservatory I've nowhere to build let alone keep a model measuring a 4.85m. I'd like to think I'll build it one day but it'll have to be at a smaller scale.
  23. Hello Everyone Hope all's well with you all. I've started this topic to show progress of my latest build, Jurgens awesome Ultimate 42009. It's not going to be a hugely detailed build diary or review type topic, just a picture taken at the end of each day's building and maybe a few words if I think of anything interesting to say (those who know me will attest that this is highly unlikely but still...). I know there's already a topic covering the Ultimate 42009 and if it's thought that this belongs in that topic would a moderator please move it. Thank you. One last thing. Most of the pictures will be taken by me using the camera on my phone & the timer with me holding it as best and as steady as I can. I apologise in advance for any dodgy pictures. Anyway, now that's all out of the way, here we go. I started building yesterday morning 12/02/2015 It's been an enjoyable build so far & I've been making (for me anyway) surprisingly good progress this made easier due to Jurgens brilliant instructions. At the end of yesterday I'd got as far as page 19. As there's 372 pages I can't help thinking it's going to be a very long build. I made just one mistake through lack of concentration. At step 7, I attached two 7L lift arms instead of two 5Ls & didn't notice until step 25! Luckily it was pretty easy to put right, only taking about 50mins or so. There, could've been worse. 13/02/2015 Again, good progress today. Thankfully no more mistakes. Sorry about the quality of the pictures. A particularly tasty roast chicken dinner stopped building & when I came back to take the pictures I'd lost the light. I'll replace them with better ones over the weekend.
  24. Brilliant and instantly recognisable. Brought back some very happy memories.
