[TC10] Scraper Caterpillar
grum64 replied to juGSI16V's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This looks great so far. I've a soft spot for these machines as my Dad drove one in the '70's. I look forward to seeing the finished build. -
How durable is Technic LEGO?
grum64 replied to Bering's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I have several older Technic sets and so far have only found cracked parts in the 8880 and then only 3. As for my other sets. I've only found cracked parts on the suspension of my 8461 Williams and 8674 Ferrari but with those parts being under stress from the springs & carrying the weight of the car I guess that's to be expected. Edit: Spelling -

Grum's Shed
grum64 replied to grum64's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It should be. Before I started building the 8880 I wasn't much of a fan, I wondered what all the fuss was about but now I get it. It's a brilliant, feature packed set and a great build experience. -

Thank you Edwin. She's coming pretty well. I've a free day tomorrow so hope to get a good bit done. -
[TC10] Wheel Loader
grum64 replied to jorgeopesi's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I think this is going to be a great entry. I'd never have thought of using pneumatics for steering although I know in reality these machines along with many others use hydraulics which I guess pneumatics are a great substitute for. I'm loving watching all these [TC10] builds. My only experience to date of building with pneumatics has been the UniMog. Besides a few older pneumatic set's, I have the Actros which I hope to build sometime soon(ish).- 86 replies

No need for thanks. You were right in that I should have been taking more pictures as I built and whilst I'd like to say it was down to me having too much fun building (which I was) I simply clean forgot to do so. I'm pleased you reminded me but, if there's a next time, please do it sooner The seats do look good, they're some of the best I've seen outside of MOCs. -

Build Day 6 - Days build time 2hrs 35mins / Total build time 30hrs 5mins Not as much time to build today as I'd have liked so there's no where near the progress of my last days building but progress is progress and all is good. Our good friend BusterHaus commented that this 8880 thread is lacking detailed build pics and looking through it, I agree. The truth is I meant to take a pic showing each module once assembled and another after placement but I forgot clean about doing so until reminded to by Bart and I thank him for taking the time to point it out. Anyway, working on the principle of better late than never, here's today's pictures. -

When are you going to grace us here in the UK with your presence and models? I know it's too late for this years show but Brick 2017 perhaps? -

Brilliant recreation if a motoring icon. I can see this sitting on the shelves at my local toy shop. If it were I'd buy it straightaway

Sorry about the lack of in build pictures. Yesterday was an unusual day in that building went so well that I got far more done that I could ever have expected. I'll try to take more pictures during the rest of the build. Anyway, we can't expect Blakbird to provide more 8880 content or any other for a while. He has a lot of cleaning up to do Imodium for dogs??? -

Yes, the old girl's growing on me. Thank you for your kind comments. The pictures aren't as good I'd like them to be but as I'm taking them with my mobile phone I guess they're not too bad. -

Thank you Paul. I have Addenbrookes to thank for today's good progress. As for the list. You've seen how big my shed is and I'm now running out of storage space Thank you Edwin. The set is in very good condition compared to some I've seen. I've only had to replace one grey beam as it has some discolouration and one white plate due to yellowing. The wheels are in good condition with only minor discolouration on one of them. I've had to replace a few cracked half bushes and couple of thin liftarm triangles (2905) but I expect this on a set of this age. The stickers are all in remarkably good condition with no peeling etc., As far as I'm aware they're all there, even the mirror stickers with each one still across the two tiles the original owner stuck them on. I'm not sure I want to know what caused that -

Build Day 5 - Days build time 7hrs 40mins / Total build time 27hrs 30mins Firstly, thank you to my local hospital for cancelling my (very early) appointment just as we were about to leave the house Having been gotten up at stupid O'clock and having nowhere to go there was of course only one thing to do. Get in my shed and build. Today's building has been blissfully frustration and problem free, one of those days when everything went well. Even the 'engine' went together easily which for me is almost unheard off. The result of this rarest of days has been the very noticeable progress shown below. -

These are just the sets in my shed. I've around another 40-50 sets stored in the loft or at our eldest sons. I tell myself not to buy anymore but I can't resist a bargain. I'm looking forward to building these. One day.
