LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 18 Rumors and Discussion
ElectroDiva replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Looking at the blurb, it sounds like the costume party rumours may have been true. Which is absolutely fine with me :) -

Ah - that might fit the silhouette better actually. I'd be very happy with something like that :) -
Technic 2018 Set Discussion
ElectroDiva replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The 2018 flagship set will apparently be a Mack truck. The preliminary silhouette makes it look like a mixer or dump truck of some kind. Something like this would be pretty cool: https://goo.gl/images/oaJ9iw -
They're really popular with kids apparently.. I actually don't mind the endless rehashes of top selling City subthemes (police, fire, coast guard etc) - TLG is a business after all. Just as long as they throw a few bones here and there to AFOLs. A new cargo harbour set with that huge container ship hull mold from 7994 would be great for example or god forbid, some decent train related sets. Has anyone seen any sign of those btw? There were supposed to be a few in 2018 according to the trains release pattern but I can't see any in any of the leaks so far.

I really wouldn't want to be an "investor" sitting on stock of the old UCS Falcon There's one joker on BrickLink with a new one listed for 9990 Euro Reality check incoming...

I hope it's £500, but I don't think there's any way this set is going to flop - even if they price it at £700-£800 What you have to remember is it is hands down the most anticipated Star Wars set (and arguably the most anticipated Lego set) of all time. The amount of hype and media coverage this set is going to get will be unprecedented. I can imagine the TV/online/newspaper/magazine "Christmas toy" specials now. It will be at the top of every one of their "must have ultimate gift" lists I think that will be enough to take it from collectors item territory to a top flight christmas / birthday present for a reasonably wealthy family. In any case, I'll be buying one day 1 and hope it does well as it increases the chances of getting more complex sets in the future
-
That would be great news if true.

Yep - there was a nice analysis of the "pattern" for City themed train sets posted on page 1 of this thread. Seems to make sense, and based on that pattern there should be a new freight train, passenger train and possibly station next year
-
Yep - the fantastic MOCs that people come up with on here and elsewhere definitely help keep me interested. I also managed to pickup the original Metroliner recently at a reasonable price which has helped soften the blow :) But this one did reach 10k and still didn't get made... I think it boils down to mass market appeal - clearly Ship in a Bottle and Voltron will sell more. This just seemed like a great (missed) opportunity to throw train fans a bone. Agree on modulars btw - great to see so many of those doing well on Ideas - and although it's not technically a modular, the Old Fishing Store is one of my most anticipated sets

Unfortunately the vintage tram didn't make it So that rounds off a pretty disappointing year as a Lego train fan Roll on 2018...

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
ElectroDiva replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I would love a modular train station too - something ideally you could mirror build to get a "grand central" train station. I also think this would have great potential for a suitable train tie in given we are due a couple of new train sets next year. Given the 1930s setting of the modular building line- the ideal would be an Orient Express type steam train with pullman cars or an early Art Deco style diesel electric passenger train. -
Surprised the heavy haul train is retiring earlier than the blue cargo train (60052). Anyhow, lots of people now expect new sets to arrive in 2018. It seems to fit the pattern @Duq provided a good summary of that pattern on page 1 of this thread
-
I don't think the metroliner is coming back either - it would just be a very welcome surprise if it did. The examples you posted would all make an interesting change of pace from the recent hi-speed passenger trains we've been getting. Personally, I'd love it if they made a docklands light railway train DLR B07 Stock at Poplar by bowroaduk, on Flickr Or a classic NY subway train R-143 L train leaving Broadway Junction and heading towards Rockaway Boulevard by yankeesmann1918, on Flickr
-
Yep - I'd go for that. A utilitarian workhorse that could be used overland or for a subway would do nicely. Something like, oh I don't know, maybe the metroliner :)
-
Much as I hate to admit it - it's highly unlikely that Lego monorail's ever coming back :( Which is a shame, because it's great for adding a bit of retro futuristic glam and density to any burgeoning Lego city's transit system
-
With that red stripe it looks a bit like an ICE train: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intercity-Express# I know the buildings in these promo shots are usually one-offs, but does anyone know how often the vehicles end up as real sets? Wasn't there a cargo lift helicopter a few years back that ended up as a city set?

Queen Anne's Revenge Cabin Modifications
ElectroDiva replied to CaptainBarbossa's topic in LEGO Pirates
Hi - Welcome to the forum. There's two approaches that most people use to these kinds of mods. Some take the base set and start playing around with physical bricks straight away. Others prefer to model the section/whole set in LDD (Lego Digital Designer) and make adjustments there. In terms of the specific mod you want to carry out - the search function on this forum is useful for finding similar mods for inspiration. This thread seems to cover some of the stuff you want to do: -
Fantastic MOC - great choice of scale and detail. It really captures the feel of the place with your lighting and little vignettes
-
We should be getting the results of the first 2017 Ideas review soon. I really hope the Vintage Tram makes it: It's not strictly a train I know, but for me It would rescue an otherwise barren year for official train sets

People have different budgets I guess. Personally, most of the new stuff that interests me these days is >150 EUR/USD (and that's what I spend most of my Lego budget of circa 2k a year on). Recently there hasn't been enough new stuff to interest me so I've been filling up on secondary market sets from my dark ages at exhorbitant prices (most recently the Green Grocer modular for £800 which was daylight robbery!!). Going off on a tangent for a second *i wish* TLG would offer the ability to buy one off copies of older sets for a premium (I'd happily pay 2* the original price adjusted for inflation) Anyway, in an ideal world, I would spend my 2k budget as follows: 1.5k on 6-8 * D2C/ UCS sets (1 each of Modular, Train, Castle, Pirates, Star Wars and Technic and 1-2 from DC/Marvel) 0.5k+ on minifig series, ideas sets and random sets from various other themes It would be really interesting to see a survey of the AFOLs here and their total annual spend on Lego and what they spend the majority of that budget on - i.e. : -sub 50 EUR/USD "basic sets" -50-150 EUR/USD "premium sets" ->150 EUR/USD "D2C/Expert/UCS" type sets Some forums have the ability to create polls but I can't see that here. Maybe a friendly mod could help with that?
-
Good point but I guess the problem is how can TLG quantify the size of the AFOL market? If you buy through Shop@Home TLG probably profile you based on the sorts of sets you buy - but if you're a typical AFOL, you're only going to be buying D2C sets from there Take train fans for example. The train sets and accessories out there at the moment aren't S@H exclusives, and with the discounts available elsewhere - most people will be buying those through other channels -> from TLG's perspective it looks like there is no AFOL market for trains I can't really explain that set - it was well executed but a bit limited in scope
-
Thanks for correcting that misconception - I had (incorrectly) assumed major new concepts these days were marketing led. It is refreshing to hear that TLG is still a design centred company when it comes to new products (even though there is the occasional miss :) I agree the AFOL sets TLG already produce (SW, Modulars, Fairground etc) keep a big chunk of your AFOLs interested in the brand (myself included), but there are a *lot* of castle/space/pirates/train fans - probably enough to make releasing one Shop@Home set for each of those themes each year commercially attractive. I won't hold my breath, but it would be awesome to see TLG try this one year.
-
@Nabii - firstly, thank you very much for your participation in this forum. It is a credit to you that you continue to engage with the community here despite disagreeing with some of the points raised. I would like to respectfully challenge a few of your statements however: Most people on here fully recognise that TLG is a commercial enterprise and it's primary focus of course will always be making money for investors. However, if it turns out that Nexo Knights suffers a "perceived" failure - I would suggest that the marketing people who came up with a hybrid Space/Castle concept should re-evaluate their selection criteria for new themes. A lot of longstanding fans of both the Castle and Space themes have always been very skeptical of such a hybrid concept. Not sure which places you're referring to but many of the AFOLs on here are not asking for lots and lots of new sets. They realise TLG is a toy company and has to cater for kids first and foremost. However, kids eventually grow up and (some) become AFOLs. Shouldn't their custom also be valued? Quite a few of the traditional Castle fans on here would be happy with just *one* decent (creator expert type) Castle set each year. I would suspect the same applies for AFOL Space, Pirates and Train fans. Is this something TLG would consider? Think of how useful such an approach would be to keep long term fans invested in the brand. It may also help address this type of frustration on the designer's part:
