  1. They kind of have a point over on the modular buildings thread. I can't see how a modular train station would "work" as a set (however much I'd like one). If we do get a new station next year, I hope it will be something like this: Something we can easily mod into a bigger/more complete station building by combining a couple of them
  2. Yep - it'll probably grow on me. It just seems like a bit of a backwards step after the return to form of Assembly Square.
  3. PF 2.0 is probably going to arrive for 2H 2018. I don't think they would wait until 2019
  4. Hmmm - really not sure if I like this - will have to wait for better pictures to decide (assuming it's not fake). The bottom floor looks pretty good but the second floor looks a bit amateurish. Also a bit disappointed that we seem to be going further down the 50s American townscape route rather than more European or even neutral buildings
  5. The Playmobil history series clearly shows that there is a market for well executed historic sets. I would *love* to have sets like these in Lego: http://www.playmobil.co.uk/onlineshop/products/history It amazes me that a brand which emphasises the "learning" aspect of toys hasn't picked up on the potential of a semi-realistic historic theme. If it can be made to work for Playmobil then why not TLG?
  6. You might have a point there. Some of those LOTR sets did get pretty dark for kids. How do you know Elves is doing well btw?
  7. Not back peddling at all. I don't like NK and neither do the kids I know. Based on that (admittedly very small) sample size I find it hard to believe there are many kids out there that do - ymmv. I had thought it was clear that was a personal anecdote My nephews and niece are about the same age range (5-11) so probably not an age thing. A few of them have seen the NK cartoons and didn't like them (but love the Ninjago cartoons) As others have said, TLG seem to have hit a winning formula with Ninjago and for whatever reason NK doesnt seem to have clicked in the same way. I personally think if they had made NK a bit more traditional (less outlandish neon colours and sci-fi elements) it may have done better. A LOTR/Fantasy styled theme would be absolutely fine by me. Apparently the old LOTR & Hobbit movie sets didn't do too well though? I would love to see some sales stats for them
  8. A european style provincial post office with an apartment above would be great - maybe as part of a split set like pet shop. The other half half could be another townhouse, giving us a bit more variation for minifig housing!
  9. Where did you hear that. Agree btw that there is no need to panic that Ninjago city means the end of the modular line. I see it as a completely separate (but compatible) set
  10. @00bricker - welcome to the forum. I think the new accounts showing up for people to join in the debate about new Lego Trains is a good sign of the amount of anticipation out there. Good call on the Amtrak train - something like that would be very welcome as the passenger train (for me at least) On the freight train, I don't mind what they go for as long as it's not a recolour of an existing loco and as long as they don't pair it with odd cargo like a helicopter again
  11. Well duh - of course kids have different tastes. That's hardly a stunning insight. It was a half-joking flippant anecdote - not a serious analysis of the size of the NK fan base
  12. Who are these mythical kids that will mourn the loss of Nexo Knights? I have 6 nephews and nieces under the age of 11 - none of whom like NK. Their friends don't like NK either. They all love Ninjago though...
  13. I didn't know it was held together with magnets - what an odd design choice. I'd be happy for a set like that to be redesigned to make it stronger - although the extra design effort might make it a less likely candidate for reissue It should still be produced and should still be available for 3rd party retailers to stock if they think their customers would want it. The scenario being talked about was a third party retailer theoretically choosing not to stock it to provide shelf space for a reissue. I honestly think if TLG are sensible about the total number of reissues each year (3-4 max in my opinion), contention with other new sets is a non-issue.
  14. @JEB314 (James) - welcome to the forum and thanks for sharing that very interesting rumour. Here's another WeDo / Powerfunctions 2.0 video from the same AFOL showing a train build: That cutaway base could conceivably be used to accommodate a motor and transmission like that
  15. Roebuck's point was around 3rd party toy stores limiting shelf space for some new sets in favour of reissues - not TLG limiting distribution. Yep - As I said the anti NK/Elves bias is a purely personal choice. Those sets may well appeal to lots of other people. $2-300 sets are usually D2C. A reissue made available to 3rd party toy stores is more likely to be in the $100-$150 range - something like an Emerald Night or Medieval Market Village, which could be carried instead of something like an NK Knighton Castle or Resistance Bomber. Good point on Winter Village Toy Shop - I wouldn't want to see something like that happen where the *only* set in a wave is a reissue.
  16. @Roebuck - I wouldn't want a shop choosing to carry a re-release over a decent new set but there's quite a lot of fairly mediocre new sets released each year which I wouldn't be too bothered about if they were less widely available. From a personal bias perspective that would include pretty much anything Nexo Knights or Elves related but generally there's at least one mediocre set in each theme each year. As long as re-releases are limited to reasonably small numbers (I would say about 3-4 max each year), I don't think it will be an issue though.
  17. Just found this on a Japanese AFOLs YouTube channel: He's been playing around with WeDo 2.0 for locomotives. Seems pretty cool - allows for Bluetooth control, automation, sound, some limited light effects. Wondering if we could see something like this used in the 2018 trains as TLG move to Power Functions 2
  18. No worries - was wondering if I'd missed a cool train somehow :)
  19. Surely they can do both? Re-releases have the advantage of not requiring any design effort (other than maybe subbing out discontinued pieces/colours). There is no good reason why TLG can't keep up their current output of quality new sets whilst still servicing the demand for reissued iconic sets
  20. That would be a tricky case of a data security leak to try and explain to your boss... Erm, I was filming a lego train video :)
  21. These are amazing. Completely crazy, but amazing nonetheless. Love the various train lifts in particular
