  1. Of course the designers are limited by the brief they are given But someone at TLG made the decision to use a valuable UCS slot to rehash a set that's been *retired less than a year* - i'm sorry, but to me that's lazy. YMMV There are so many better ways that UCS slot could have been used.
  2. I have 10188 and think it's a great set, but how is re-releasing it less than a year after the old set was retired with only minor changes and a significant price increase not lazy? If the goal was to keep selling the old set but update the minifigs and a few pieces that are no longer commonly produced, why not just do that and keep the same set number? The approach they've taken just seems a bit cynical to me and it's yet another disappointment after Hoth.
  3. I don't really buy the argument that sets (particularly at the premium end) have to sacrifice AFOL appeal for kid friendliness You can service both groups with good design - see the GB HQ, Disney Castle, Ewok Village, Temple of Airjitsu or even something like the Haunted House In any case, the main beef people seem to have with this set isn't that it's a play set, it's the fact that it is a lazy re-hash of a set that hasn't been out of circulation for long. There are so many other ways they could have used that premium slot to better effect
  4. I really don't get the decision making process at TLG. There are classic rare sets that people would love a remake of - UCS Falcon, UCS Imperial Star Destroyer, UCS Tantive IV, UCS Shuttle, Motorised At-At - that get passed over year after year. Any one of these would generate huge sales Instead they waste premium D2C slots on a minor update to a Death Star set that has barely been out of sale for a year and a complete mess of a Hoth play set. Where's the logic in what they're doing? They have shown that they can still produce fantastic premium sets (Ghostbusters HQ, Porsche, Disney Castle) so it isn't a design problem, it's a decision making problem. It's almost as if there is no one there paying any attention to what the Star Wars Lego community want
  5. Not a good sign when the designer video doesn't bother to show the motorised version....
  6. Looks fantastic - well done. It reminds me a bit of Terminus from the Walking Dead - maybe an idea for Phase 2 or the interior?
  7. I'd have been happy with an updated version of 10173 - unfortunately 10254 isn't it. It has about 25% less pieces and looks like a significantly smaller/less complex build (so they've probably also used a higher proportion of smaller bricks in that reduced piece count). To add insult to injury it costs more.
  8. Direct exchange rate? You wish :) The "TLG Exchange Rate" used for the latest premium sets seems to be about 1.2 GBP / USD. So that would make it £416 for a $500 set. Round that up and i reckon we're looking at £419.99 I have the last one so this one will have to be spectacular for me to want to pick it up The Tie Striker and AT-ST look great - hopefully they'll turn out like that. The rest look a bit meh..
  9. I'd be happy to pay for the instructions if they were for sale. With some MOCcers though, they just do it for their own pleasure and never sell or release the instructions. In those situations you just have to try and reverse engineer it from the pics or use it as inspiration for creating your own version. Rumour has it the Series 1 Disney figures will be back later this year by the way. Apparently the first production run just ran out faster than TLG expected it too. I hope so - I have a full set but would like 4/5/6 extras of the little green fellas
  10. Yep - and keep paying the extortionate after market prices for the "golden age" sets. Next on my list are Mill Village Raid and Diagon Alley
  11. Agree with you that MOCs have far more potential than officially licensed TLG sets for displaying creativity, but most people (myself included) want to MOC/MOD with real bricks. The problem with weak official sets (and i would put 10254 in that category based on first impressions) is twofold. Firstly, they often sell poorly and send Lego a false signal that people aren't interested in trains - hence contributing to the demise of the theme. Secondly, they often have a poor selection of parts, limiting the options people have to create their own MOCs/MODs - reducing the interest in the theme.
  12. They have dropped other themes before the full planned run though right? Or is that wishful thinking? Anecdotally, my nephews and nieces (all <10 years old) don't like Nexo Knights either. The boys are mad for Ninjago and Star Wars, and the girls go for mostly Disney and Friends. Both also like Minecraft and some City stuff They have seen my LOTR and Kingdoms sets and minifigures and given the opportunity, I think they would go for a traditional castle/fantasy theme
  13. Damn - you're right. Just googled Kre-o and Dungeons and Dragons and found this: http://www.hasbro.com/en-us/product/kre-o-dungeons-and-dragons-kreon-warriors-wulfgar-kreon-set:DB7A5EFE-5056-9047-F53E-B53017DC302C This theme would have been all kinds of awesome with Lego. Oh well, looks like the long drought for historic lego continues...
  14. I can't see an inverted corner modular happening to be honest - as Dazz pointed out, a bit risky if this is truly going to be the most expensive modular building to date. I'm hoping for a hospital or a museum. My minifigs are in dire need of quality healthcare and cultural pursuits ! :)
  15. That thread has been taken down by the mods, but there's a reddit thread with pictures - just google reddit and the set name Personally, I'm pretty underwhelmed by it. Was (probably unrealistically) expecting something like the last train or the Emerald Knight/Hogwarts train I'll reserve final judgement until I've seen it built but it doesn't really look like it has much potential for powering it or extending it (which is what I would want to do)
  16. Hi All - apologies if there's already a topic for this but apparently the Dungeons and Dragons reboot from Warner Brothers is going ahead: http://deadline.com/2016/06/ansel-elgort-dungeons-and-dragons-movie-1201778139/ It says that Hasbro are attached but given that Lego also has close ties with Warner Brothers, one can hope that this may result in licensing for them too? Given the absence of any "traditional" historic or fantasy theme at the moment (Nexo Knights doesn't count :) - could this be the answer ?
  17. Those disney mechs are to die for! super cute. Will definitely need to have a go at recreating those
  18. Looks great - well done
  19. Does anyone know how well Nexo Knights is selling? I really don't like its futuristic/castle mash-up and from my perspective the sooner it's done the better.
  20. I'm very underwhelmed by this. I was hoping for something like the Emerald Night or even Hogwarts Express but this doesn't even look as good as the Toy Story train in terms of complexity. I'll wait to see it built though before deciding whether to pick it up.
  21. I can't see how it wouldn't come back to be honest. It's a perfect way of rebooting the Pirates line. I came out of my dark ages after the last POTC line but I have managed to pick up a few key sets on the aftermarket - including the Black Pearl and Queen Anne's Revenge. I would love to be able to add the Flying Dutchman or a British ship to that. I'm also hoping we can get a nice building or two in there. With no active historic theme at the moment, this could be a good alternative.
  22. Looks great. Could you possibly post a vid of the knights moving? Would love to see that
  23. I've only ever bought one used set and that was a Star Wars set - 10178: Motorized Walking At-At. It didn't come with minifigs but I've since picked those up on BrickLink. It was a pretty good deal and was actually in really good condition, but I haven't been tempted to do it again (despite the potential savings). I much prefer buying new sets Incomplete new sets (usually without minifigs) on the other hand are a whole other deal. They are a great way of picking up parts to MOC/MOD with
  24. I think i was first introduced to Lego (Duplo blocks) at school. I do remember my parents never wanted to buy me any when i was very young because they saw it as a "boy's toy" That soon changed though :)
  25. Hi all - long term lurker on this site. Decided i finally wanted to start posting as i'm starting to get into MOCs/MODs Looking forward to interacting with you all ElectroDiva
