  1. What if the blurred pic is a bit of a red herring? At the rumoured price point (200-250), what if we actually get two ships? A fairly low piece count skeletal Silent Mary and a much more substantial Flying Dutchman/Black Pearl/QAR
  2. We currently have 2 freight train sets on sale. Wouldn't it be nice to get something different ? I've just googled 60169 btw and it looks like it would be a good accompaniment to 60052 Nice work
  3. Looking on the bright side, if 10254 did well, it might increase our chances of actually getting a decent holiday train at some point. I bet something like a recoloured "festive" Emerald Night would sell like hot cakes
  4. 10254 sold well? That surprises me. I must admit, I didn't pick it up because it was too basic for my tastes and I already had a few other steam trains.
  5. "starter kits" (with track, power functions, side builds etc) can be expensive but if you look back historically at the creator expert/advanced trains, they really weren't that expensive (1/2 to 2/3 the cost of a cargo starter kit). I think a bigger issue at the moment (from a pricing standpoint) is the fact that Lego only seem to want to sell starter kits - they have *three* of them on sale at the moment !!!. Is that really the best way to build a following for trains? Wouldnt it be better to have 1 (max 2 starter kits) and supplement with a loco+carriage pack, or better still, individual loco, carriage and cargo wagon packs? I've gifted a cargo train starter kit to two different nephews and both of them would love to be able to add extra locos and carriages/wagons to their sets. Lego doesn't provide any cheap/easy ways to do that though
  6. I completely forgot that vintage tram was still in the running to get picked as an Ideas set. That would do nicely :) My burgeoning Lego city could really use a quaint old tram system - i'd buy at least two of those in a heartbeat! Hmmm - what better way to traverse the jungle than in a futuristic monorail?
  7. I really hope not. There's a ton of new stuff they could do with the existing track system - subway, double decker, trams. They could even bring back monorail (wishful thinking I know)
  8. Definitely seems like a pattern - roll on 2018 :) I hope they release at least one new set this year though. Will be a dull year as a train fan without it
  9. Agree it's been declining as a sub-theme for years but I can't see them dropping it completely. Lego as a construction toy/model brand would be poorer without trains. They're a fundamental part of even a basic Lego town/city (which surely every Lego fan aspires to have?) Would be interesting to see the sales figures though
  10. I haven't seen a thread for 2017 trains (mods please feel free to merge/delete if I missed it) and thought it was high time we started one. We currently have 3 non-duplo train sets on sale: 60051: High Speed Passenger Train (2014) 60052: Cargo Train (2014) 60098: Heavy Haul Train (2015) Plus 2 track packs (one of which is the much maligned flexible & straight track pack) I found out today that the only train "building" to have been sold in the past two years (60050 - train station) has also now been retired. Now I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm not feeling much love as a Lego Train fan - it's pretty slim pickings at the moment... I have a couple of mod/moc projects to keep me going but would really appreciate a decent official set (or two) this year. What are the chances of that happening? Surely they have to replace one of the 2014 sets and at least get a replacement station out in 2017?
  11. Finally some news on the new POTC set!!! I was hoping for a "UCS" Flying Dutchman given the cost, but I'll settle for the Silent Mary (already have BP and QAR) Day 1 purchase for me. It will be nice just to have another decent sized Pirates set tbh.
  12. Hi Jim - not sure what the issue is? The images are deep linked from Imgur so shouldn't be causing any issues storage/bandwidth wise. They also seem to be displaying at a resonable size when browsing the thread (even on a mobile phone)
  13. The tunnel entrance itself looks great - no improvement needed there. As others have said though, you need more clearance around it - it just looks odd to have a tunnel entrance right next to your palace cinema If that isn't an option, another alternative (a lot more work) might be to bring the tunnel entrance forward by a few track lengths, put a few "faux" bricked up railway arches into the wall that creates and and use the square area that results for a trendy market / small open shopping area (google images of "railway arches market" to see what I mean).
  14. Aww thanks :) It's a great set in the first place and a few embellishments go a long way
  15. Thanks - it's my first big mod :)
  16. Modded the Haunted House by turning it into a modular building and adding a garden and crypt: Modular sections for the main house: This may not be the best house to trick or treat at... Frankenstein & pals chilling in the servant's quarters: The Count entertaining the ladies: Spooky kids telling ghost stories in the attic: Spectre and his ghostly pals hanging about on the roof: The crypt - front view: Looks like Skater Boi has got himself into a sticky situation: Not as bad as these two unfortunate souls in the crypt though: Lit up with green LEDs: Party time: Side of the house: Vampire bride having a good time: Spooky tales: The horror from the crypt is breaking free:
  17. Really like the look of this set. Great colours and lots of lovely little details. The U.K. price is a bonus too (if true) Yes it could have been bigger/better, but you can say that about any of the big ticket AFOL targeted sets. What it does have is lots and lots of mod potential. Speaking of which, keep those photoshopped mods coming LegoSjaak- love seeing them whenever a new modular comes out. I like the look of the "castle" version most so far :)
  18. If it's for the train, the easiest option is just to use the power functions lights If it's for your WV buildings, there are quite a few modular lighting systems out there. I use this one for most of my modulars with great results: http://www.brickstuff.com I'm going to try it for my WV this year too
  19. They can easily remain size compatible by using 2 * 32x32 base plates. The building itself could be n shaped with the two sides forming 16w*32h "wings", and a 32w*16h top. The remaining 32w*16h space in middle could be a public square A bit like the British museum: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:British_Museum_from_NE_2.JPG I'd buy something like that in a heartbeat :)
  20. Really hope this is the Flying Dutchman Wasn't there a lego ideas version of that which got turned down fairly recently? Could it be because they already had something similar in the works (as with the GB HQ)? $250 (probably D2C) seems to be a bit of a coincidence...
  21. I'm so excited about this - have been waiting for them to do another Lego compatible product for ages (since Roller Coaster factory came out in my dark ages and is now pretty much impossible to get hold of) Backed the campaign earlier today and it looks like they are over 2/3 of the way to their target already :)
  22. Exactly :) @omegabob - you're right D&D isn't the same as Lego's past castle theme but in the current absence of genuine historic and fantasy figs (and to a lesser extent parts) without an active Castle or LOTR theme it would be a good alternative. Unfortunately It doesn't look like it will happen though so will have to keep MOCing and hoping for a new Castle/POTC/Fantastic Beasts line
  23. It does - thanks. If the max gradient per track piece has to be less than a standard brick, I don't think I'll have enough space for it. Will have a play around, but it may have to be plan B - a sunken "river" section lower than the level of the main tables. That will mean messing about building some kind of structure to support it though
  24. These are great. Would love to see a vid of a full bridge in use if anyone has one? I'm putting together a Lego city for my nephews and a train layout with Spiderman's bridge is definitely going to be in there. Has anyone solved the problem of access to the bridge? It would either have to be a ramp of some kind or the bridge section itself would need to be on a slightly sunken level. Not sure which would be best approach
  25. Personally I would have been fine with that. It's unrealistic to expect prices to stay static over more than a year or two. It doesn't happen with any other product, so I don't expect it to with Lego either.
