Limited Technic Reviews
kbalage replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I hope TLG will realise soon that there are several ways to promote a set and YouTube is not the only way to go. I'm doing video reviews myself but I always enjoyed reading Jim's detailed written reviews and couldn't watch those gorgeous photos without being envious. As it was mentioned previously googling any Technic set + "review" from the past few years will always bring the Eurobricks review topic on the top of the list. This is the result of some hard work and dedication and it shows the popularity of the written reviews, this should be definitely respected. -
Updated motors comparison page
kbalage replied to Philo's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That's interesting, I measured approximately 15% more torque with the PU XL motor compared to the L one which is quite similar to the difference between the PF variants geared to the same speed (although I'm sure my tests were far less accurate than Philo's tests). About the naming - looking forward to see what the official name of the motors will be once they'll be sold separately, I still think Control+ is only the name of the Technic app so technically these should be Powered Up L and XL motors. XL has the same absolute encoder so it can be also used for steering, at least with the BrickController 2 app for now :) -
[APP] BrickController2

@efferman thanks, didn't use their app since a few weeks, I only switch from BC2 if it is absolutely needed Just checked their forum, the suggestion is to download a previous version from here until they push another update.- 1,316 replies

Don't think so. Go through all steps looking for the exact parts, maybe one at a time. -

[MOC] Rocky 42099 B model
kbalage replied to Didumos69's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Designing the B model is the easiest part, do you know how much effort is needed to add a control interface to the app with a different design?! -
@ozacek I was asking for the rechargeable vs AA battery box because the rechargeable is 7.4V, the AA with fresh alkalines is 9V so I wanted to know which one has a similar speed. Looking forward to see further tests, it'd be great if you could get someone with a smartphone to test the control interface.

[MOC] Rocky 42099 B model
kbalage replied to Didumos69's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Another great build from you and a nice challenge to build a B model :) I'll definitely build it if you decide to share the file or create instructions! -
@ozacek I had 1 unit that was completely dead and the other one had issues with one output, I guess it was servo control problem, similar but not as severe as the one in the video above. What you could test: - Speed compared to a PF rechargeable battery box (if you have one) - Speed compared to AA battery box - Can it really run 4 L motors and a Servo under load? - Quality of the app, configuration possibilities - Range of control with remote / app - Does it have proportional control with the app (I guess it does not have with the remote as it only has buttons)?

Technic 2020 Set Discussion
kbalage replied to dimaks13's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Lol... apart from not being red and no scissor doors (which can be a fake leak anyway) I don't think TLG has interest in making a supercar from a 18 year old movie that only had a minor role in it. -

TLG has a slow and gradual approach with the shift to Powered Up. Boost came in 2017, Batmobile & trains in 2018, first Technic sets in 2019. Since Power Functions will be available until the end of 2020 they don't need to rush. All components of the 2017-2018 batch are available now separately, hubs, motors etc. I'm sure we'll be also able to buy the Technic hub and motors separately soon, it's just not happening immediately after the release of the sets. I guess production focuses first to provide enough supplies for the sets, the individual components only come afterwards. About the apps their development approach is also gradual and (unfortunate for us) pretty slow. The "City" theme only got the set-specific controls first in the Powered Up app, it took quite some time to get the free coding area and the customisable two slider-3 button interface. The Technic sets also got the app-specific controls first with Control+, the next step will be the upgrade of the Powered Up app to support the Technic hub and motors properly. This upgrade is expected to happen this year. I don't think anything is withheld by TLG on purpose, their schedule is simply slower than we'd expect it to be.

@Eaglefan344 by default you have 2 set of 20T/12T gears on each axle (4 set of gears altogether), and all of them are gearing up. The 5 min upgrade swaps one set of gears on each axle so you have set gearing up and one seat gearing down, having a 1:1 ratio between the motor and the differential. Original – 1:1,667 * 1:1,667 = 2,778 “5 minute upgrade” (swapping one set) – 1:1,667 * 1,667:1 = 1 Stage 2 upgrade (replacing one set with two 16T gears) – 1,667:1 * 1:1 = 0.6 Super slow (swapping both set of gears) = 1,667:1 * 1,667:1 = 0.36 If I understand you correctly you swapped all 4 sets of gears, that will really make the car super slow. Swap back one set of gears on both axles and that'll be my 5 min upgrade.

@ozacek the quality is really questionable (1 of 2 units arrived dead, 1 output on the working one also has issues), and most importantly it does not offer proportional control that is apparently also missing on the one you've linked. This is pretty off-topic for 42099, I suggest to continue the discussion in this one.
