Control+ General Discussion
kbalage replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Or you can simply use 2 Technic hubs, you'll get 8 ports then. 6 PU L motors for drive, replace the 2 PF M for steering with a PU L motor, and you'll still have one port for the 2 speed gearbox. -
Try a forced firmware update. Turn off the hub, start up the app, wait for the connection screen, then press and hold the green button on the hub. After ~8-10 seconds the led should start flashing first in purple then in different colors, then you can release the button and the app will automatically start the firmware update. Once finished you can check if it connects normally or not.

Unless you use PF IR control which I highly doubt for an advanced MOC (like Madoca's monster truck that you mentioned), every alternative control solution will need a setup process. Btw for an "average" situation where you have 4 drive motors, 1 servo + 1 extra motor/light you can use a Technic hub and a AAA hub, you'll get 6 ports with less weight. I know that the Powered Up solutions cannot replace all the configurations that you can currently solve with 3rd party PF-compatible hardware (BuWizz, SBrick), but you still have the possibility to choose which system fits you the best. -

30 years ago I was playing with the Great Giana Sisters on my Commodore 64. I don't have a Commodore 64 anymore, but I can play with the exact same game on my phone that was not even on the drawing board that time. If anyone wants to play with Powered Up hardware in 2050, there will be a way to do it for sure. -
Pushing 4 buttons for the positions does not work (yet), what is possible is selecting an initial position (e.g. the 1st gear), and then use 2 buttons to switch one gear up or one gear down, meaning when you press the button the shaft will rotate by 90 degrees clockwise/counterclockwise. It is not a foolproof solution at this point since the stepper rotation command uses relative positioning, which means if you press the button before the previous rotation is finished then it'll add 90 degrees to that intermediate position where it was at that moment. There's also no limiter for the lowest and highest gears so you need to pay attention to that as well. I published a blog post with a video and some screenshots about the configuration here.

You can use BC2 to control it, with the stepper function the gearbox works as well.

I'm not 100% sure but after I had a ride with gravel and sand as cargo my gearbox really started to sound weird :)

Something is very wrong there, take it apart and start again. I guess then Mindstorms, Boost, or any other advanced set is also out of the picture as "gift". Nowadays IT and coding becomes more and more part of early education, it's not uncommon to have such classes in school under the age of 10. It's quite interesting to see parents freaking out when they see a LEGO set with smartphone control but the formal IT education in school is completely fine.

Here's my review of the 31199 Marvel Studios Iron Man set:
-
You got me here for a second, if it really works well I think I would pay for it But I would definitely pay for a LEGO-made controller with proportional joysticks and lots of buttons that can be programmed via the app and after that can be used without smartphone assistance. If LEGO could provide a remote like that with pre-set profiles for the official sets, that would really solve most of the issues and concerns of a lot of people.

Control+ General Discussion
kbalage replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Considering the the pace of development and the public releases of the different code blocks that are already used in the app-specific profiles I would say that the team probably lacks the resources to take care about the github documentation as well. I hope TLG will realize the importance of the subject and will resolve the resource issue. -

I asked this during my interview with the Powered Up app owner, this was all I got: I know this is being looked into, but I don’t have exact details to share at the moment. -
Nope, only the Spike Prime variant. I started to create the code for a proper automatic gearbox, still working on it:

Here's my video with the final Control+ profile: Pros: improved calibration time and accuracy default gear is 1st and not park, this means less gearbox switching and less stress on the gearbox manual transmission stays in the selected gear when throttle is released Cons: uncontrolled wiggling still happens occasionally during calibration steering still feels laggy no real automatic gearbox, does not shift down

During calibration the uncontrolled wiggling still happens occasionally. The calibration process seems to work better but it still has some issues. Rest of the functions have some improvement, I'll publish my video about it soon.

What quirks do you mean? Most of the issues were with the beta app for the review sets, otherwise they are exactly the same like the ones you can buy in the stores today.

42113 Replacement Set Petition
kbalage replied to SNIPE's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Considering the suspected production timeline of a set, if TLG starts to develop a replacement today then we can have it on shelves in August 2021. Instead of this I hope they'll find a fairly quick and effective way to process the recalled sets and release the parts through B&P. Another alternative would be to sell the separate bags from 42113 in bulk to Bricklink sellers who are interested (not the whole set, e.g. 100 No 1. bags), they can part it out and make the pieces available on the market. -
About powered up compatibility
kbalage replied to seekersu's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I suggest to have a look at my Powered Up summary here for the basics about Powered Up. In general most motors work with most hubs, but the app needs to be updated for the new releases, e.g. the Powered Up app does not work yet with the Technic angular motors. The app that supposed to support most of the PU hardware is the Powered Up app, it does not work yet with the Technic angular motor and the Spike Prime hub. To use the PU remote you need to use this app, no other apps support the PU remote as an input device. You can connect up to 4 devices to the PU app, so you can use 2 remotes and 2 hubs the same time. Regarding the hubs the best is to work with the Technic (AA) hub and the (AAA) Hub, the Move hub again has some limitations regarding the motors that can be used but it changes with every firmware upgrade. BrickController 2 only supports game pads that are designed to work with your Android or iOS device, and only one gamepad can be connected. -

The Technic angled motor still does not work, not sure what was updated as the release info is very vague this time. @Jim I think it'd be good to rename this topic to "Control+ / Powered Up general discussion" as people are already confused with the differentiation and they open new topics with their questions regarding Powered Up. -
42113 Reconstruction Guide
kbalage replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
My bad, don't have the set and did not examine it in details yet :) I thought the switch is used in both directions. In this case you only need one of the code lines, even more simple. -
42113 Reconstruction Guide
kbalage replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
A very-very simple solution is this one, one line to start the motor (assuming it's on port A), the other one is to start it in the other direction, can be stopped with the stop button in the top right corner: A bit more complex code for the slider controller interface, the steering wheel and the traffic light buttons are used here. One tap on a button starts the motor in one direction, second tap stops it. Tapping on the other button starts it in the other direction. Tapping one button after the other will reverse the motor direction immediately, second tap stops it: -
Nothing formal, you can simply say something like: I read the statement about the potential delay/cancellation of the Technic 42113 Osprey's release. This set was designed to represent a rescue aircraft and this way it should not interfere with the core values of LEGO, therefore I would like to ask you to release it according to the original plans.
