Unrest in the Forest, Day 1: Rush
fhomess replied to Walter Kovacs's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Vote: Bruce Spruce (Tamamono) For reasons pointed out earlier that haven't been answered to my satisfaction. I'm still not comfortable with Bruce's explanation for his quick maple read on William. There's a callousness to his approach with Alistair highlighted here: I understand that it's hard to catch maples on Day 1, but it doesn't mean we need to stick with our first reads. I think Bruce is trying to take advantage of the situation to his effect. I think he's also lost a bit of attention to how others are responding, and has a bit of tunnel vision going. For example, IMO, Hazel has actually turned around a bit in terms of his/her comments. Maybe there's some coaching going on but I'm not ready to case a vote that direction. I'm not sure that lynching Alistair tells us as much about Hazel or Catarina at this point as it does about Bruce, but it seems to me that Bruce is the one trying to manipulate things. -

This is from a way back, but... what? Your vote is based on what Bruce does? Are you trying to distance yourself from him for some reason? Do you just dislike him and want to do whatever he doesn't do? And Chester, you gotta admit, you said it yourself: It sounds like you ARE more worried about how you look to the rest of us than doing what you think is right. Then when someone called you out on it, you do it after all. If you're an oak, you have nothing to worry about if you're really trying to uproot some maples. You really only have to worry about how you look to people when you're trying to hide. If you can't justify your vote, you should probably hold out. Really? After Hazel's non-committal to being helpful at all and threatening to vote randomly you call her out because you don't believe her story about the intreenet? That's the least scummy thing about her! -

I'm not terribly concerned about why some trees decide to hold private conversations early on. That's not unusual and people respond incredulously every time. Some are more likely to do it than others. The fact is, it can be a useful way of finding out how others feel about things that they may not be willing to contribute publicly. I'd like to hear what it was about William that made Bruce suspicious of him so early. I'd also like to hear Bruce's opinion on how Simon handled the situation. We know you found William's reaction to be rather oaky, but has Simon come across to you as oaky in the situation, too? -

Personally, I'd like to hear what Catarina has to say on it before we move on. Did anyone call you out for being quiet? Do you regularly start your conversations with apologies? No kidding. Despite the fact that there is some relatively interesting conversation going on, all you've done is make idle banter that's distracting from the fact that most of us have moved beyond that by now. There may not be a lot to go on, but there are already some interesting interactions. For example, Bruce Spruce calling out Catarina Dogwood for... well no apparent reason until Waldorf Walnut responded with one. Do you think Bruce was really trying to accuse Catarina as his subsequent comment clarified or do you think he was just trying to see how people would react? Some people are questioning Bruce for a relatively weak lead on Catarina, but Catarina has yet to respond and it is at least something we can now discuss reactions to. I don't really see why Simon Persimmons is so concerned that it's a weak lead given we really don't have anything else at this point. At least we can talk about it. -

Sounds to me like Alejandro knows who everyone is. Or maybe he's just lonely and needs a friend to talk to. -

Such language! Be kind to William or he'll start weeping. I hear he's prone to fits of uncontrollable weeping. -

Wait... if the maples are complaining about a lack of sun, don't we just chop down all the short trees first? Am I short or tall compared to the rest of you? Couldn't we just get sun therapy lamps to share for everyone and sing kumbaya while we sway in the breeze? Stupid maples. -

Personally, I find the use of EB usernames to be rather insulting to the host. What's the point of having them create an interesting world in which to set our adventure, go to the trouble of assigning us names, and then have us all ignore it? We're all reasonably smart people. -

1. How many Mafia games have you played here on EB? Considering all the "game within the game" 's that I have played, I estimate this to be approximately 5,277. 1a. If you have NOT played any games, how many have you read through? Have you ever visited and looked through Mafiascum? Are you even reading my answers or not? Asking this right after I told you makes it seem like you don't even care what I say. I have feelings, you know! 2. Have you read the Rules (which are provided below for your convenience)? Are you prepared to follow them? Depends on where they're going. If the rules decided to jump off a bridge would I jump off a bridge, too? Yes. Yes, I would! 3. Do you promise to have fun, and treat the game as a game? I promise to... hey, look! A squirrel! -
Party Lines Mafia - Conclusion: Discharge Petition

I was thinking of Hinck's bwankie. After rereading the conclusion, it redirected actions but Hinck wasn't told how or have as much control over it. -

I will withhold full judgement until I see the full roles and night actions, but I'm not yet sure how the town could've figured out that there was a redirector. Def, for your reference, I remember a redirection role playing a key part in Curse of Imhotep, which was a long time ago. Anyway, if the watcher was watching Kovacs, and TPRU redirected Kovacs to himself, how come the watcher didn't see TPRU and Kovacs both target himself? This implies that the watcher also would not have seen other types of redirects. Bob, as much as you were right about, the way Def went after Scaveola before there was any reason to, should have given you more pause. I was pretty well convinced you were both town and scum was laughing all the way to the bank. I think there's plenty of blame to go around for the end game, but I also think the situation was unwinnable for town at that point. While the town could have won by the numbers, no rational course of action would have resulted in a town win in short order. Also, someone called someone else a newbie to Mafia games, I think it was Def calling out Mencot, but I'm not sure. Mencot agreed, but you're by no means a noob here. If you've played more than 4 or 5 games, you're plenty experienced. There was a lot of vitriol in this game, and I find it often difficult to determine what's "a part of the play" and what's just being mean. Other than that, it was quite a fun game to watch. -

I don't have a lego version of this, but here: -
While visiting my dad over the holidays we found my old Lego and pulled it out for my kids. There was a bunch of vehicles and airplanes still constructed in one bin. I took some pictures but haven't taken the time to post them. The loose pieces had been stored in boxes that some mice had gotten into over the years, so they all needed to be cleaned.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
fhomess replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I just recently got PC after having only PS and GE. I love the styling. I don't want my city to be too similar in terms of the architecture. As to the unfinished spire, I presume people mean that the back is left open? It's really not uncommon for decorative features like that to be facade only so it doesn't bother me. The only thing that really bothers me about the building is the lack of stadium seating in the theater. I think the chairs are nice, but they really should've been stepped. I don't have any problem with the inclusion of the limo, per se. I don't buy lego for display only purposes, so having a car with which a movie premier could be staged is a nice idea, but I agree completely with everyone that says the limo was terribly executed. Overall, I'm a big fan of PC and think it's quite fun. -
It would make me very sad if non-licensed castle sets went fleshy. The fleshy classic minifig above looks abominable to me.

Snazzy. Makes me think Diablo has been drawn out of the Chaos Sanctuary into the River of Flames.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
fhomess replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
The atmosphere feels quite a bit different because we're getting a modular with several different businesses inside of it. There isn't a cohesive whole to this set like the others have had. Pet Shop is the closest we have to it, and that was basically a residential modular with a small store in a corner of it. This has 3 businesses co-inhabiting a space that's essentially too small for any of them (except maybe Brickman's). It feels more like urban congestion that's on the outskirts of a city than the urban core. As for the cartoony aspect of it, I think the colors have something to do with it, but it really comes down to the POOL sign. The angled P and L make and inconsistent scale give it that effect. Remove that sign, or mod it to be more blocky and the cartoon feeling probably goes down quite a bit. This one's growing on me as I think about the possibilities, but overall, it's underwhelming to me. That said, I can easily see why people like it and I wouldn't be surprised if I changed my mind quite a bit once I build it. However, I think it's the first modular I've looked at and my first thought was to make some changes to it. -
Mine are on the floor so my kids can play with them.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
fhomess replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
And people keep complaining about fire sets in the City line. I actually passed on FB even though it was the oldest modular available when I came out of my dark ages because of the fact it was a fire set. I remember seeing Green Grocer in a Lego store when I was in my dark ages and thinking it was pretty cool, but it wasn't quite enough to get me out of it. I'm a bit sad about that, but there's nothing to be done about it now. -
Mafia School-The Cosplay Party: Conclusion- Caped Crusaders
fhomess replied to def's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
I didn't follow this one closely all though I did check in regularly. I was super impressed with the Vig (Settle?) nailing so many scum. It was also great to see the teams going at it and some of the newer folks did quite well. It's appreciated. There is quite a bit of work that goes into making a good game. I think Mafia games are incredibly fun, but I'm also aware of why it goes through cycles of popularity and due to the time commitment choose my games carefully. This game is a great reminder that simple setups can be every bit as fun and challenging as games with funky rules or a twist. -
I found the MVR to be a fairly big disappointment honestly, but I got it after having seen a lot of praise for it. It is a nice set, but the minifigs are nothing special and the part selection isn't great. The windmill has an odd base and the barn is nothing special. I already had MMV at that point, which was one of my first post Dark Ages sets. MMV is lovely and a cohesive set that can fit nicely in a more urban setting or as the center of a small town. MVR feels like it belongs in the country, which might mean it goes better in a field near a castle. As for the current 2013 line, I didn't care much for the castle, but the other sets are reasonably nice. I think people get hung up on the brightly colored and somewhat cartoonish heraldry as a big letdown from the Kingdoms line (it was for me, too), but if you look past that, the parts and builds are pretty solid for what they are. Gatehouse Raid is a cheap way to get a decked out horse and plenty of parts for making castle walls. The Forest Ambush is a good army builder. Gold Getaway is plenty at 1 set. I like the Dragon Mountain set as the start of an idea for a Red Dragon lair, but needs to be built out.

Tremendous! Now you just need to build another airport for them to fly to.
