To me the hooded elf armour looks like leather mixed with chain mail and plating which looks really great because the greens and browns really work well together! I also like that they gave thrandruil his casual clothing we saw in the first film and in this one's posters/trailers. The red cape I believe originates from the cape he was wearing in AUJ in the scene where the elves watched the dwarves fleeing from smaug.

Just a thought but the new elf archer in the desolation of smaug set elf army would make an awesome green arrow if you changed the head to one with a stubble. The brown and dark green colour scheme is perfect for it. http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20131019115705/lego/images/thumb/b/bb/Mirkwood_Elf_Archer.png/92px-Mirkwood_Elf_Archer.png

I can't understand the hate for Beorn's character design? You guys haven't even seen it in the movie, or heard him speak or do anything in the movie yet! You can't complain about something just because you don't think it is picture perfect to the description of an exceptionally old book. Lego would never make sets based purely on the book! They just wouldn't sell well with Lego's target audience! This movie is the only reason Lego are making sets. Blaming PJ for not making the character exactly how you envisioned him is just silly! When people read the book they probably paint their own mental picture anyway. I can see PJ has really gone to town on the whole bear/animalistic design for his human form. I mean if you transformed into a bear every five minutes then it would surely show and that ragged and rather rough, furry look is how it would show. The point being is don't rag off on the design until you've actually seen the movie. Its like looking at Johnny Depp as tonto and immediately hating the lone ranger before even bothering to watch it. That mistake made by people caused a fairly decent movie to be damned and fall flat on it's face just because some biased people couldn't get past the fact that this is a new age of movies and not the late 1900's. Point being in the only way to say it "Don't judge a book by it's cover". Plus the wave focus does not surprise me at all due to the focus of the movie seems to be sauron gathering power more than smaug the dragon as a foreshadow to lord of the rings. Gandalf seems to be more of a main character in this one too from what we've seen whereas the first film focussed mainly on thorin and his band of dwarves, this one seems to be focussed quite a bit on Gandalf's battle with the forces of sauron and again on Bilbo's character journey. The only thing I find disappointing about this wave is the design of Bilbo most seen in trailers isn't in any of the sets. Then again who knows! There could be some completely unknown exclusive for DOS that just surprises us all after the film has been in cinemas.

That's quite cool to see really! That makes me instantly think of Brave and The Bold due to the bright colours and facial features. If that is in the junior set then I may get the set as this batman variant is pretty cool to me. Plus as far as I've heard the junior sets would be similar to the new star wars micro fighter line which I'm sure due to popular figures will be picked up by all age ranges same as this!

Guys I think one of the trailers gives some insight into the swinging skull cage feature on the Dol Guldur battle. Notice to the right of who Gandalf is fighting there is a hanging cage with a skeleton like the one in the set. Plus in the set it is right next to a door which looks the same as this photo as is the archway to the right under the tower in the set. http://www.herr-der-ringe-film.de/v3/media/galerie/hobbit001/hobbit_15/DOS_T1_40-cb206752.jpg Plus this set is clearly based on the courtyard of the fortress of Dol Guldur from the movies. This is easy to tell as in the scene where radagast enters Dol Guldur in AUJ the layout of the courtyard is pretty much similar to the set. the two staircases one on each side and the archway leading to the necromancer and the walls and tower with the entrance on the left side where Lego has put the opening gate instead of the gateway from the Dol Guldur ambush which is where radagast entered in the movie unless that is another entrance we will see used in the movie. In fact lego seems to think that gateway's front should face towards the inside of the fortress which seems odd to me as there are swinging axes on the inside of the doorway so attaching it that way seems just odd. i reckon from the look of the dol guldur set that the doorway set can also be attached on the other side next to the other doorway the right way round. The statue is shown on the official banner for Dos in the courtyard is seen in the banner to be holding a sphere/ball possibly a palantir.

So chancellor palpatine is included in the tri-fighter then! That's what we heard before I always assumed it was a rumour but judging by what jay123 has hinted I reckon that might be true! If he is included that would be very cool especially if he is in his black attire from the revenge of the sith opening scenes. Just speculation til we have proof though.

To be quite honest if those set descriptions we have been given yesterday are accurate then that's quite disappointing. The spider man sets sound generic, dull and unnecessary. The only thing I can see in those sets that I would possibly want is The Goblin figure and maybe Gwen Stacy. Electro has never really interested me that much and reusing the same doc ock from the first wave of ultimate Spiderman sets is just plain lazy. The spider copter sounds ridiculous as a helicopter would not look remotely attractive in those colours and Spidey really doesn't need one! He is not Batman! The tricycle sounds ludicrous as I doubt even a child would pay £13 plus for Spiderman, electro and a tricycle. £50 for the spider copter set is utterly bonkers, considering it includes only the copter which if like the one in the game isn't that large and three figures. The only way this wave could improve is if in the final versions of the sets: Goblin has a glider, Coulson is driving the van, Doc Ock is the game design and the £50 set includes more figures than just 3. On a lighter note I do like the sounds of the DC ones: We have already seen the penguin one which looks brilliant! the perfect £13 set and scuba batman is a nice thing to include. The man bat set I reckon will include Batman maybe another hero and man bat in the final set which sound good. the steam roller we have been told includes: Batman, batgirl, robin (I assume mixed up with the red Nightwing), joker and a henchman which is quite good for minifigure selection. I already liked the riddler set as soon as I saw it so that's good. So a mixed bag for early superheroes ranges this year. let us hope the "avengers sets", xmen sets and guardians of the galaxy sets fare better.

Azog was always tan/cream in the movie! The lighting of the shots made him seem white but even in the light scenes of dos he is obviously tan. radagast is highly accurate to his movie counterpart, they nailed the beard colour and the hat and the torso looks accurate. On the box art it shows in the minfig line-up he has a different face apart from his shocked look and I'm sure a double sided face will be the case. The necromancer is how he appeared in AUJ and probably Dos too! I am intrigued to see how the scene plays out.

The necromancer will probably talk as Benedict Cumberbatch is doing the voice as well as with smaug. So the necromancer will have some personality. I think the necromancer will be very accurate to what is in the film, it can't be said lego isn't accurate in their character designs for the hobbit.

Gonna get all three of these sets plus some AUJ I have to catch up on!!! The main set is incredible! I mean radagast looks totally awesome, azog looks better than the comic con one the orcs in all three sets just look sensational plus I'm intrigued by the necromancer! The design looks rather neat! Can't wait to see this battle in the film! Gandalf shooting bolts of lightning along with radagast that's sounds pretty cool. I am thoroughly impressed by this DOS wave! Plus the do Guldur battle is only £70? that's a steal with these figures and functions!

On the elf set on the right of the structure there is a smaller tan bit behind the tree. I assume this is just the continuation of the wall so does that mean the tree has a wall on either side then? Thoughts?

Hmm Spidey sets don't sound that appealing I'm sad to report. There are four ways they could turn this around. 1. the driver is agent Coulson and the truck is a shield truck, 2. Gwen Stacy is included in the set with the goblin and Spidey though for £50 that's pushing it highly as there should have been at least 1 more figure. 3. the Spiderman is wearing his comic con suit so the sets loosely tie in with ASM2 and 4. Doc ock is the game design. I was hoping the goblin set would come with a glider but that doesn't appear to be so. For £50 that's three minifigures and a jet? That seems highly overpriced. Unless these sets have better figures in the finished sets and not rehashes I'm sad to say I may end up not buying any of this wave of Spiderman. I hope the "avengers" sets are more promising. £50 for three minifigures and a small jet? Ludicrous!!! There had better be more to the finished set or this is gonna be the most overpriced worst selling wave of superheroes. This does tell us something though. The batman in the man bat set is black. Hopefully a new black variant not a rehash of the 2012 one.

That is so clever!!! I never even noticed they looked alike. I'm gonna guess that clicks onto the set itself and you have that in the middle with the two sides/walls on either side. That is really accurate, well done lego!

It just seems odd for the front of the box to show the same as the back. I assume it will be from a different angle and with the characters in different positions?

How do you know the front shows the same? Have there been pictures of the front? I agree though at this price and scale this is quite accurate to the movie. I really think the front of the structure looks different as the inside seems to have a courtyard inside containing the statue which the new banner for the movie depicts. I reckon the front of the box has the exterior of the set resembling the ruin. Most likely with Gandalf and radagast in battle with azog the orcs and the necromancer. That's just what I think it'll show. Unless as you say the front shows the image that is on the back. I await official pictures and a better view of the fortress with great anticipation.

For everyone seeing the Dol Guldur battle as just a wall with some features bear in mind that the back of the box shows the inside/back of the fortress. From the front it may look exactly like the fortress from the films. Plus from the look of the wall system I think it may be able to be folded/rearranged to look different. Regardless I think this will be a helm's deep style set. Looks enough like the fortress at the front with walls and some interior details. In this case I can see a lot of doorways and two ramp's/sloping bridges plus at the front the set might have a smaller version of the bridge like the one radagast is seen walking across to enter Dol Guldur in AUJ. In fact after consulting the banner image for dos and looking at the layout of the set I believe those ramps are sloped steps. Plus there is a grey statue in the banner resembling the one in the set. The statue is of a robed figure holding some sort of grey stone ball. It looks a lot like the one in the set actually. I suppose the statue could be of the witch king or another nazgul like the one in the AUJ movie but until we get clearer pictures we have to go on what we have. Needless to say I'm liking Dol Guldur battle I think for the price range its a good amount of figures and main characters and the fortress looks reasonably large enough for the price.

The light grey bit looks really curved and a different colour to the cape though. I suppose it is probably just a grey hairpiece from the 2013 lotr sets though most likely. I have to say it would be cool if they change the face as the Gandalf in the trailer has some scarring on his face in the scene.

I really think Gandalf has a new hairpiece. In the box image you can see a grey caped figure running from the right near the statue with grey hair flowing behind him. Unless it is just the grey hair from the tower of orthanc. It looks much more curved and seems to be connected to the beard piece.

Hang on a sec there appears to be three elves on the minifigure selection for the elf set apart from thrandruil rather than the two elves other than thranduil previously reported. Also noticed that there seem to be bridges/ramps leading down from both walls of the fortress, one of which appears to have the necromancer standing on. Also Gandalf if I'm not mistaken has a new hairpiece if that figure with the long hair and grey cape is indeed Gandalf.

I like the look of the size of Dol Guldur! it really seems to be a full fortress it also looks adjustable between a long walled structure and a full fortress. I also spot ole necromancer up there. I also see azog (tan) in one of the function images. I also see radagast there next to the left part of the image and Gandalf in his hat on top of the box. Plus it looks like there is an instruction to combine it with the ambush set. the elf one looks quite good I see some cool figures and a decent structure there. The new orcs look very cool I can see clear differences and armour.

Durin's bane is the Dol Guldur like a fortress but ruined with walls and a structure or is it just a small ruined structure? Is it like a smaller helm's deep or like weather top size. does it in any way resemble it's movie counterpart: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-c5NZsjyfOX4/UcYGM9fS59I/AAAAAAAACE4/dvQR-3QLvGk/s1600/Dol+Guldur.jpg

Hope UK prices are the same or less! You are right though! This is a very good mid priced range. Definitely will pick most of these up along with some AUJ sets as one of them seems essential for DOS and plus I only have riddles for the ring currently. This is a good wave as it has new orcs and elves and some main players from the movie and AUJ. It'll be nice when we get pictures.
