Review: 79014 Dol Guldur Battle
legofreak86 replied to Masked Builder's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Excellent review! I can't wait to see the movie to see what scene this set is based on! I love the minifigures and the setup of the set the structure and the space in front of it is perfect for what I'm sure will be an epic confrontation with azog and the necromancer which after all is the purpose of this set as it is supposed to be a playset!- 66 replies

I reckon if we get an exclusive polybag it would be based on cap 2 the winter soldier with perhaps the winter soldier! As it appears in an act of (in my opinion) careless stupidity! Lego aren't making sets to publicise any of 2014's marvel movies which is a very sad prospect that after seeing trailer for TWS! So much set potential there but instead they choose to base sets off two unbearable sure to be short lived television shows which will be forgotten by time next year! Whereas the movie is destined to make a lot of money and sell more sets than more humdrum ultimate Spiderman's useless vehicles and some random scenarios from a juvenile and poor imitator of earth's mightiest heroes. Such a shame! I hope the final Spiderman sets when we see them officially have new character designs or most of the marvel sets may just not appeal to me next year Such a shame! The logic doesn't make sense? Why stop marvel phase 2 sets after making ones for the first movie just seems silly. Oh well at very least we get red skull and some form of green goblin.....

At the live premiere Manu bennet (azog) mentioned fighting Gandalf in the film so that probably explains his presence in the Dol Guldur battle. Also benedict's voice of the necromancer someone compared to an "Alan Rickman impression!" A good sign that the necromancer is going to be good. I have a feeling once we've seen the film we will appreciate the necromancer figure more by the sounds of it!

Once you've seen the movie your opinion on it's quality may take actual meaning. Perhaps this set tells a scene that is just Gandalf and radagast finding out what is in Dol Guldur and then in the third movie the white council stages it's assault whilst the battle of the five armies carries on elsewhere, hmm? Point being don't judge a movie not even out of post production it just makes you look a tad ill informed. I do agree though this set seems like a one down from the flagship set. Shame Lego couldn't surprise us with something big involving a certain as yet omitted Lego dragon... The figures I think are great as the orcs are great to get a new design and I've wanted azog and radagast since AUJ was in cinemas and the necromancer looks nicely creepy. I'll appreciate him more after I've seen DOS I think cumberbatch is going to really make a good necromancer his voice has that chilling gravity that makes him perfect for our dear not so departed dark lord. Overall I like this set just I wish we'd have had one more set to fill that final gap.- 66 replies

DAY OF THE DOCTOR was Number 3 best grosser of movies in cinemas worldwide this week. Plus it broke BBC America rating records and had 10.9 million viewers overnight in the UK! Popularity is no longer an issue. besides popularity is dependent on people who like the show like the 14000+ amount people I saw in London for the excel 50th celebration convention.

That piece is grotesque!!! The stud on the head is one of Lego's hallmarks! Plus that piece would look oversized and rubbish on the prof or luthor!! It would be a sad day when Lego covers up one of the things that signify Lego's design! Sadly there is no guarantee we will even see anymore DC sets this year. TBH if we did I'd have liked to see something MOS krypton based, I'd kill for zod and jor el in krypton armour and lara and Haraka (dragon thing).

The show celebrates its 50th anniversary with a broadcast to over 70 countries around the world plus cinema showings in lots of countries. Doctor who's overseas popularity is through the ceiling currently! I'm more than ready to see character step aside and let the pros take it from here! I'm sure this anniversary event will demonstrate to lego just how successful the show is.

Nice haul! I can't wait to see what the sets look like in person! Apart from laketown (sorry just doesn't really interest me) I will be buying most of this wave and the AUJ sets I still have to catch up on! Enjoy your sets

That is what I was trying to say! I take it you misunderstood my statement? I thought I made it clear. I just stated my opinion that it was clever how those type of pieces click on over the head. My best guess is the bottom of the beard/hat piece is completely open and the head goes onto the torso and the beard piece goes over the head cleverly matching up with the face printing. In my opinion that's a clever idea and so is the whole design of the piece. Is that a clearer way of putting it? That is as you put it, what I am talking about.

I just never imagined Lego would put that detail into but combined with the different browns/tans used for the face/beard make it look really authentically like the character in the film and like McCoy did in the film the figure looks pleasantly unhinged. The other side of the head has quite a cool expression from the pictures we have seen as it would be the one used for in battle sequences..

Bombur has a normal minfigure head that you put the piece onto. radagast will have an actual minfigure head. It probably clicks into that beard and hat piece in some clever way.

It can't be as we know there is back printing on the head an alternate expression! It will most likely be like black beard in POTC. Headpiece, special moulded beard piece and then a specially moulded hat.

He has bird dropping printing on his beard piece!!! I never thought Lego would put that detail on the actual figure! Looks a lot like Sylvester McCoy! can't wait to get that! He has a double sided face so that is impossible for him not to have separate pieces!

Glad we are getting a TABA line. Have to say though it would be funny if they still released the sets in the summer and then we had to wait til December to understand what they were about! Unless they are doing a set the in summer perhaps, from DOS such as one with smaug and then in December doing the TABA wave. It seems like the smart thing to do. Like what they did with the dark knight rises set release it the year after the movie plus it would make sense as I doubt from what we have seen from the trailer and what has been said by Jackson and co that suggests smaug plays any part in There And Back Again. Plus the cast list for that film that lists benedict as the necromancer only. It would be fitting to have a DOS set in the summer/autumn then the full wave of TABA in December. This would also explain why we wouldn't be getting any LOTR 2014 sets as they would be focussing all their effort on the hobbit line. I'm good with that. If there is no LOTR 2014 then I guess it had a good two year run with some decent figures and sets. I prefer the hobbit though. Sets and movies they just excite me more. probably because I've been able to watch them at the cinema and live through the hype as LOTR I only ever saw on VHS, Blu Ray and DVD. Still I hope they end the hobbit line with a nice big finale to fit in with the movies.

This is a spirit that was formally a man. Now he lost his armour he probably is a naked spirit. I think he is glow in the dark as another picture showed him having grey instead of green bits so probably in normal lighting he is grey and in the dark he goes green. I think once we've seen him in the DOS movie we'll understand the design choices for the figure and his importance. as it appears from what has been said he is much much more than set dressing this time round plus he is voiced by benedict cumberbatch same as smaug so he must have some killer lines in the film and some action. I'm looking forward to seeing him in the film to see lego's inspiration.

Oh dear! Those blasters are cringe-worthy. Lego really needs to learn the phrase: "if it isn't broken do not fix it!" The figures look lovely and I don't have any of the old rots stuff anymore and that what these sets remind me of. I like that they have finally got a ROTS accurate obi wan Kenobi and the Anakin from the Starfighter is good as it has some good facial expressions and has a parallel with the one from 2012. Grievous is unique which is good to see, I think they mixed up the colours between this and Azog from the hobbit wave though . The troopers are great and Chewbacca is great to see. Of all the material left in season 5 of clone wars they chose to make a set of something from 5 years ago! Really! I guess that fits in with TLG logic though . I like the new Chewbacca and other wookies and the death star pack. Shame the battle packs are let down by those ridiculous blasters. Salucemi looks like a terribly made custom made set, in fact a custom set would probably look better. Not the best January wave I could imagine shame no set with ROTS palpatine VS Yoda yet. I'm crossing my fingers for one in the summer line. I think however I'll save my cash for superheroes until I see something star wars that impresses me...

OH yeah. I remember last year they did that with AUJ! Oh good! I will look forward to that! Unless of course I am past the age where they send the magazine. When was the last one? I can't remember what month the last issue was I'll have to take a look in my magazine rack. I'm probably just being forgetful as usual.

I'm guessing that is the poster that is available with DOS hobbit orders in December on Lego shop. I seem to remember something (maybe a catalogue) teasing that for December.

That is awesome! I hope they release a set of that car! I love the technique that they used to make the shape look correct, its brilliant!

That'd be lovely! there is certainly enough superheroes minifigures for a marvel book and a dc book. Also we would hopefully get an exclusive figure with each book. That though is just speculation at this point sadly.

So you can! That's a good spot! I didn't even notice til I was looking for it! To be quite honest its still a DOS set to me even if the box art is still AUJ.

As do I! I think due to the metallic look the design seems to have on the image that that design would work well in a movie. It looks a bit like the same sort of material for the suit as captain America's and spider man's. Yes that would do well in a set especially with the brown and yellow. Who knows that may turn up in DOFP as we haven't seen all of it and his future suit looks slightly similar. Or he could use it in the past.

from the alternate ending of the wolverine movie from the blu ray http://media.zenfs.com/en_us/News/associatedcontent/470_2718851.jpg be aware this photo may be spolierish to those who haven't seen the movie or haven't seen the alternate ending. It does suggest something intriguing for wolverine's future and could effect next year's sets.
