Hmm, I can't say much about webcams really and how well they are suited to this sort of pictures. For myself, I am using a mid-range bridge camera. Nothing spectacular, and with a tripod, shutter times >1 sec and some delayed release (to avoid concussions by pressing the button), I get acceptable results (after a phase of experimenting with not always acceptable results). The blue tint in the picture can be fixed with some colour-correction in Photoshop or Gimp - but a white background is a more easier solution indeed. Maybe a light tent. They are not expensive, but the size should be big enough to fit in your creation easily. Mine is 50x50x50 cm and just big enough for the Deep Sea Research Vessel. Also a couple of additional lights might come handy, to create a simple, but effective lighting setup. I got my light tent as a set together with 2 lamps. Its not professional equipment, but does what I bought it for and also didn't cost as much as a professional one There is also a really good Lego photography section here in the forum. I would definitely take a look there. Reading the tutorials there helped me a lot finding the right settings for my setup.

I agree. He put so much effort into it already and we know he is tight on time. ...and maybe that settles the waves a bit as well

Definitely a smart call to get the pieces together bit by bit instead in one lot. Thats just calling for super-inflated prices. I can indeed only recommend to invest the time searching and picking them together and spend the saved money on more Lego instead.

Oh wow. That round is still going This is really remarkable that after how many days our two most heated duels are still undecided. Which way ever this will end, please keep in mind that its just a poll

Really cool build! Simple, but ticks all steam/bilgepunk-pirate boxes and has quite some character Sadly the picture is a bit blurry and a bit too blue and the angle of the camera a little too high. The build itself is absolutely fine though and really a fun idea!

This looks really good! Rich and dense, with a lot of texture and life going on. You certainly put effort into making your build look diverse - and that really shows. There is not really much I could nitpick about - brilliant work so far!

[MOC] Blacktron Blackbird C3 frigate class spaceship
Littleworlds replied to Kelkschiz's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
This looks really cool. Elegant lines and distinctive design. I really like the wingtips. They give it a hint of a predatory bird, with quite a bit of glamour in the mix as well. A sight that should definitely terrify helpless space travellers. Good work! -
[MOC] Thane Rori Dulgisson from Karak Zorn

He looks really good. I can almost hear the clanging of the metal plates. He looks hefty and full of character. Great work! -
Hey, there we have something in common. Star Trek is one of my all-time-favourites as well! So I am sceptic, because I care, not for wanting to talk it down or so! Sure, the TOS and TNG concept of closed stories per episode is not really working anymore in 2017, but DS9 didn't really show how to make it better, if you ask me. Character development was brilliant, but the whole arc with the dominion war was at times quite over the top. Ground battles with almost trench-warfare in the 24 century is a bit of a stretch - just to mention that example. I just stopped caring about whats next they would come up with. All in all its more Babylon 5 that showed how to do it properly, with a fully developed story over 4 seasons. Like a space-opera novel. Really excellently done. War, peace, believable alien cultures, interesting ideas... My impression is that DS9 rather desperately tried to catch up on that format than bringing much new into the genre. When it comes to Picard and Sisko... good old Jean-Luc surely has his own story to tell about hospitality of the Borg and Cardassian officers But generally speaking: just that DS9 smashed more spaceships doesn't means its a more intense or better conflict. So what I would really look forward to would be exploration and appreciation of science, knowledge and ethics like in TNG and the writing and arcs like in B5 - and the action too. Action is fine when its not for the sake of it. I also think what Star Trek really made so beloved was that it showed a coherent, positive and engaging outlook into the future. I am sure for many people Star Trek was the first time they learned about futuristic concepts and technology. Of course some things will never make it into reality, but genetics, virtual reality, mobile communication, handheld devices and such made it already into our all-day lives. So in this way, Star Trek was indeed a window into the future. It inspired people to become scientists, or help to develop some of the fantastic things they have seen on screen. Sadly that aspect is pretty much missing in recent years. Yes, I had to stop myself from rambling as well!

After watching the last trailer I don't really look forward to it anymore. Actually, the more I learned about it, the less I was hoping for a "proper" Star Trek, that can do more than the ever-the-same space battles. Sure, it looks better now, or at least modernized, in a JJ Abrams-style, but in its core it appears to me to just go on where Voyager, Enterprise and most of the films already were. I miss the sense of wonder and - yes - discovery. But apart from the show's name there is right now absolutely nothing promising that. Well made stories or interesting plots about exploration and all the stuff starfleet is actually supposed to do. TNG showed it is possible and it was never boring people away from the screens.

Some quite unconventional designs. They look really good and each single one of them has character and qualities as an eyecatcher

I agree. A gift that really comes from the heart (and bricklink, I assume!). It looks really good and you get the vibe of the late 60s perfectly into brick shape. And these transparent pieces for the drumkit... works like a charme

(MOC) Send a Detachment Down to Retrieve Them...
Littleworlds replied to Outworlder's topic in LEGO Star Wars
This looks really good. I like how you made the dunes. Very nice, organic flow, that gives a lot atmosphere to the scene. Beautiful! I would perhaps arranged the Dewbacks a bit differently, maybe make them approach the pod from different sides. The dragon skeleton looks a bit too complete and straight to me. Maybe you break it up into different sections and give it some curvature. Wind, scavengers and sand will surely have left its toll on it. Oh and a little photography advice: It looks nice and clear, but also pretty blue-tinted. I would tone that down, and also try a couple low-angle shots as well to get more of a Minifig point of view, or slightly above that. Works usually very well and gives some extra immersion.- 16 replies

[MOC] Classic Space X-Wing Starfighter "LL 918" MK I
Littleworlds replied to freiform's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Welcome to Eurobricks! Very nice build. Design-wise it is definitely going into the right direction. I would give it a bit more texture though, like adding some tiles (typically with arrows printed on) and some translucent 1x1 plate pieces to increase the space-vibe. Also the front doesn't seems quite right to me... it gets too narrow too early on. -
I have read Ready Player One last summer. Its certainly not high literature, but probably the biggest fan-service-work of all time This said, I think quite of people will be disappointed to see a lot of the 80s memes removed and replaced by more current things. Then again, 2D arcade games and oldschool dungeon crawler aren't really much rooted in the public conscience of cinemagoer today. And the trailer had Rush, so that's a nice flashback for the 80s crowd. Also turning a book into a film usually isn't a straight conversion. It often requires massive rearrangements. The idea itself is intriguing, but I would have preferred someone else would have done it. Spielberg hasn't impressed me much in the recent years. His CGI-heavy films look pretty run-off-the-mill. Ok, back to topic. Currently I'm reading a biography on Abraham Lincoln by Jörg Nagler, called "Amerikas Großer Präsident". Americas Great President. A good read

[MOCs] Swing Carousel/Chair-O-Planes, Drop Tower
Littleworlds replied to AlexDoesLego12102's topic in LEGO Town
Lovely MOCs that seem to work well with the roundabout. They actually look like they could be sets as well. Very elegant and neat designs and functionality. The snack booth is really lovely as well. I appreciate such details that add some atmosphere. Though I would perhaps put the swings a bit further apart or reduce their number. They seem to get pretty close to each other when its spinning - too close to be safe!- 13 replies

I don't believe anybody has to justify any vote for any Minifig they are doing, whether I'm agreeing to them or not. I have seen quite a lot Minifigs losing in earlier rounds, that I would have preferred to stay in longer. It is how it is. Its a good reminder that not everyone has the same preferences.

Copper turns green rather quickly, so that would be an option. Reddish brown works with bronze, which is a quite popular material for casting artwork as well.

I completely agree. It looks amazing, so having only a low-res picture is actually a mild form of torture

Looks really good. Clean and neat, just like it should be. I really like the plates on the inside of the arc. Makes it very tidy. Also clever use of the whip parts for ornamentation. I would perhaps replace the black statues with grey ones though. Of course, that would clash with the whips then. I have seen them already in white though...

Ha! Great idea! Funnily I just had a chat with a friend about classical music and how passionate it is. Now this really hits the nail on the head - real passion!

I find its totally appropriate actually. If you can make it look good with basic building technique, there is no need to over-engineer it Just like there are still pretty conventional creator sets around, that still look completely fine as they are.
