  1. Don't want to steal the thread, but I'm certainly planning to build some "Classic Space" inspired Nexo build if I take apart my sets sometime. Maybe a thread for alternate Nexo Knight builds could be better suited for that, because I have seen some amazing original alternate models from single sets. Don't know the best policy to handle other people's MOCs on this forum, because I absolutely do not want to take their credit.
  2. So I saw a discussion about larger 3-in-1's in a Train topic, but wanted to rather bring it up here. If LEGO continues the larger sets (600+ pieces) , it'll be in may/june for sure like previous years. A big vehicle is possible, as they had one for 2015 (Blue Power Jet), and 2017 (Turbo Track Racer). The biggest question for me is if there's still going to be any houses, and what style they'll use (solid, hinged, or mini-modular) Also 31094: Race Plane actually has stickers, which is different from the norm, so I wonder if this remains a one-time thing.
  3. This is a great concept of a space fleet, nice use of parts for the smaller ships too. Is the transparent orange meant to be regular or neon orange? Just wondering because during year 1 both colors were used, neon for the Knights, and regular trans orange for the Lava Monsters. The change from black to grey certainly looks more year 1 Nexo Knights too in case of Aaron, black was mostly used for Robin.
  4. "The Third 2018 LEGO Ideas Review qualifying period ended this Monday morning, January 7th." https://ideas.lego.com/blogs/a4ae09b6-0d4c-4307-9da8-3ee9f3d368d6/post/86c4405b-51f9-4d87-b82c-0b6a275bc8c3 1. Dinosaurs Fossils Skeletons - Natural History Collection by Mukkinn 2. Chemical Plant by Ymarilego 3. Food Stand Diners by FrostBricks 4. Playable Lego Piano by SleepyCow 5. Queen Victoria Cruise Ship by FlagsNZ So, yeah, exciting Ideas times ahead, 5 projects made it to 10k. 10 projects still in review. Next deadline for 2019 : Monday, May 6th, 2019.
  5. Thanks for summarizing something I tried to get across in my longer post some page back. Year 2, knight vehicles got brighter colors, it became more Power-Ranger feel without the proper Megazord/Voltron combination Nexo Combination vehicle does actually happen in the comic during a simulation training, and it actually fell apart real fast, so I think it was meant as a joke. I loved the Stone Monsters, and Knighton Castle sets no doubt, but some of the knight sets were pretty weak, like Axl's Rumble Maker. I have no problems with named characters or recurring ones, it's the sets around them, solely focused on the knight's color felt forced, and repeated. Each knight set : 2016 : main vehicle, hover horses, ultimate sets, knight colors mostly as accents. 1 extra small vehicle for Aaron/Clay (Fortrex) & Macy (Lava Lair). 2017: main vehicle, battle suits , colors got brighter and more knight-specific. ( 2 more exclusive sets also existed for Lance/Aaron, and a Battlesuit Robin via a Book) 2018: main vehicle for most knights, except a Jetpack for Macy. Colors still bright and added gold. Merlok powers mostly only explained in the Magazine comic, and used as a monster "weakness" in the game. Macy only ever got small vehicle sets... so much for being princess and the heir to the throne.
  6. 2019 sets : TLM2 Metalbeard has a few sets & a polybag that come with some pirate elements. 30528: Mini Master-Building MetalBeard 70836: Battle-Ready Batman and MetalBeard 70834: MetalBeard's Heavy Metal Motor Trike! Also: Xtra 40341: Sea accessories
  7. Off-topic from Pirates but : I had a lot of those tiny smallest box sets with maybe 1 minifig from many themes during the 90s, especially since supermarkets/gas stations had promotions where you could get them. I was a kid then, and in The Netherlands there's a tradition where kids can get gifts/candy in their shoe the next mornings in the few weeks before St. Nicholas Day (which replaces Christmas gifts) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Nicholas_Day I remember watching more recent set reviews from Jangbricks and he calls those smallest (around $7/€6) boxed sets (like Off-Road-Chase-60170) "impulse buys", which makes sense small affordable gifts for kids, basicly in-between a Polybag and a regular €10 set.
  8. Funny to read that now, because in the City 2019 magazine issue 1, there's a sky police cop (minijet set included), chasing a bunch of villains (the ones that use the Drones in the set line) that escaped the air-base jail and then go to the Boss' grandma to eat pies, and take some with them, to later throw into a chasing cop's face messing up his radio contact Not exactly donut smugglers but Pies are close. Boss name is called Tony Colorado (probably a reference to Tony Montana), Minijet Cop's name is Tom Maverick (reference to Tom Cruise in Top Gun)

  10. There's only been set names/numbers as far as I've seen.
  11. Nice house, lot of little detail that stand out, like the offset windows, pink flowers, clips, teeth at the top, and pillars.
  12. Well, of course, LEGO can be mixed/matched, and NEXO Knights variations between seasons is good still. Swapping heads around can indeed change the knights into different factions, torsos, legs, and armor is different for 2016/2017/2018, ultimate and battlesuit too. Right now my other faces are from either Nexo Knights, Creator or some City sets. Maybe I just need to get a hand at MOCing and customizing my figures, because right now I am way too stuck on "sets" in my head for some reason. Thanks for the tips.
  13. Great builds, but still feels odd not seeing any studs on the wings, that's just me I guess Of course LEGO is making more SNOT bricks and plates nowadays, so more build styles are good. The recently added 1x1 Bracket helps even more for small detail , and is getting more common in 2019 sets.
  14. Early pirates line had quite a few small sets, while low piece count, were still pretty generous on 1-3 figures and either a combination of shark/monkey/parrot/cannon beside the build. LEGO still makes small boxed sets, but many are polybags nowadays which are much harder to get then regular retail sets imo. (not everyone is in USA with walmarts/targets etc). 2018 City had a small boxed set with 2 minifig/motorcycle for €6 retail. But 2019 so far most of the smaller sets are €10 with 1 figure, Benny Space Squad being an exception, and hope they'll do the same with a future Pirates theme too. (3-4 minifigs, some small builds, for €10)
  15. Maybe that post sounded too negative, and it wasn't meant like that. It's not the names themselves, not even the media bothers me. It all depends on a few factors, how long the theme is planned to run, and how many "main characters" there are. In the case of Elves/Friends/Ninjago/Nexo Knights, 5-6 seems to be the sweet spot. Small sets per "character" : As long as sets like Spinjitzu/Airjitzu (Ninjago), Ultimate/BattleSuit (Nexo Knights), or even Heart Boxes (friends) are in addition to the regular waves of sets instead of replacing them, it works. Balance between location sets and vehicles need to be right: Traditional Castle themes generally had more castles/forts and smaller side builds like blacksmith/inn/towers/wizard huts, even 2013 Castle had 3 out of 5 sets which were buildings. For Nexo Knights we didn't see many side-builds (maybe Merlok Libary 2.0 could be considered a side build, and 2 2017 sets had a small tower, and tree) The main focus went into a more action oriented focus, each character had a vehicle set per year (2016/2017/2018, so that already made 15 sets + King/Robin mechs), while smaller side-vehicles and hover-horses were included in bigger sets or villain focused sets. Pirate themes generally been a mix between a big ship, smaller ships and some forts/island sets, and while they had named characters, it wasn't so story-driven like a Ninjago/Nexo Knights theme, so it'd be interesting to see what they'll come up with. 90s Space sets been generally more focused on vehicles and usually 1 "base" per faction, Classic Space had a few more bases but also lasted many more years. Faction Diversity: I never had any Chima sets , but while they had a lot of named characters and vehicles, I still think it was more diverse compared to Nexo Knights, it shows that multiple factions can still work with very diverse tribes, which could work for a Castle/Space/Pirate theme as well, instead of focusing on a team of 5 alone for the most part, while the villains were a bit more varied between the 3 sub-themes (lava/stone/tech-infection). The difference in that sense also was Nexo Knights was a 1-way good vs evil, and Chima could go 2 ways, or even tribe vs tribe. Space, Pirates and Castle especially during the late 80s and 90s had multiple factions, making it pretty diverse too, and not strict good vs evil, because it was such a long, continued release cycle of sets, sets from 3 factions were being sold at the same time, as most years had at least 2 factions. Catalogs showed 2-4 factions at the same time during the 90s Space/Castle/Pirate themes, 1992 for example : M-tron/Space Police 2/Blacktron 2, Pirates/Redcoats/Bluecoats, Forestmen/Wolfpack/Black Knights/Crusaders https://images.brickset.com/library/view/?f=catalogues/c92eu4 1992 catalog 2007-2009 Fantasy Castle also had Trolls/Humans/Dwarves/Skeletons at the same time (+ Dragons, and evil Wizard) But your right, I rather see any wave in the Space/Pirate/Castle theme then none at all. (and before people think I am bashing Nexo Knights, I am not, it was the theme that got me out of a 15 year dark age in 2016 even) I know we have different opinion about Nexo Knights, while I liked most of the theme, in hindsight I can see some flaws to the theme too. I don't think the 2018 ending was very good, and there was a lack of castles/side builds in favor of many vehicles, my favorite part remains the actual castle sets and monsters (Lava Lair/Knighton Castle),
  16. While this looks like a great set, I'll wait to see the Ideas Treehouse first.
  17. It's not sold on European Shop @ Home right now.
  18. Really love this set, even if it weren't specificly Chinese, a normal house/living room set like this, is something I'd like to see more of. (I am not bothered by the open back or roof) Printed Food and Utensils on tiles is good enough for detail imo. Shame it's not available in Europe.
  19. Same ships also shown on the Benny's Space Squad set box :
  20. Just went to that website, and somehow this picture is familiar : Mark Stafford LL-929 (2009) http://neoclassicspace.com/image/06-top-view Snapshot of TLM2 , the white/blue color scheme, shapes, and white side rockets, and red transparent parts are very similar between the ships. Now of course the question is, to see if any of those ships make it to an actual set.
  21. Only 1. I rather wait and see if they make some more generic sets instead of having many Benny's. If the nostalgia really kicks in , I still got some original (old) Classic Space stuff around, but I do keep my old (up to year 2000) and new (2015+) LEGO seperate
  22. If a space/pirate/castle theme made some comeback I would want it to have no named characters, too many LEGO themes focus on named characters now. Of course there's been named characters even ages ago like Captain Redbeard, or King Leo, Basil the Batlord, Johnny Thunder. But that still cannot be compared to a multi-year theme like Friends/Elves/Chima/Nexo Knights/Ninjago focusing on the same characters in advertisements, media, comics, TV or Webshows, or even a Movie in TLM1/2. (I'll leave out licensed themes) Friends is still different from City/Creator, as it does actually had animated media created for it. It repeats the same 5 named characters ever since 2012. (2018 is considered a Reboot)
  23. For only 6-wide that's awesome.
  24. I used those wings of the 928 Galaxy Explorer set my family had for many builds all the time, for airplanes, space ships, and even as the deck of an aircraft carrier on top of those white/red boat hulls. Imagination didn't need named characters to be good. I suppose kids have more options now and grow up even earlier with digital media then me. But even so, the number of LEGO sets/themes with named characters is very big right now compared to City and a few Creator minifig sets (2019)
  25. Those spaceships are shown in the background on the box of this set as well. (right side, above Benny)
