Has the LEGO group released too much 18+ sets this year?
TeriXeri replied to JintaiZ's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Too much is really different per person. I can see if someone is a Star Wars AND Harry Potter fan and wants all the (big) sets, yes that'll be expensive, with the regular sets, UCS, Diagon Alley and 18+ sets. But personally I try to heavily select per set/theme, even if that means avoiding Licensed themes in favor of in-house themes which I generally like more, and even then, there are sets like Barracuda Bay which are awesome but large. When Nexo Knights was still going, it was the only theme I collected, especially during 2016-2017, and that theme had a lot more then just sets with the books, magazines etc, which are also part of other themes. -
Not many new Pirates submissions on the IDEAS site anymore, did they block them? Pirates seach still is there, but returns all sorts of non-pirate related builds. But here are some recent builds that could still fit in, and there are some entries under the Vikings filter for some ship related builds. Johnny Thunder - The Lost Temple by CARLIERTI (I know it's Adventurers but still could somewhat fit in) The Galapagos Islands by Lachie1023

LEGO Monkie Kid 2020
TeriXeri replied to Classic_Spaceman's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Slightly different offerings on the European store, but yes, they added some Friends, LEGO Movie 2 , Frozen II , Ninjago Polybags a while ago : https://www.lego.com/nl-nl/categories/polybag - Europe / NL https://www.lego.com/en-us/categories/polybag - USA I do hope the European listings get expanded. -

TeriXeri replied to JintaiZ's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Exactly how I see it as well. Sets were labeled something like 5-12 in 2018, now they just use a + , there's no upper age limit, but not really a lower either (except for the 0-3 small parts warning really) And even so, I can see kids 4+ easily build 12/14/16/18+ sets at a younger age. I even read stories here and on other discussions they let their kids under 4 play/build with regular LEGO (likely mostly under supervision but still) -

Does the age on the box really matter that much? I only look different at sets if they are labeled 4+ (formerly Juniors) as they are simplified on purpose. As for other sets, I look at the parts/build, not the age "suggestion". Star Wars helmets / Mosaics are intended as display pieces (in their original builds), but even then, the sets can be built by younger people, and the parts used in anything as well. Plenty of other 18+ sets can easily function as playsets, including Crocodile, Haunted House, Mos Eisley cantina, they don't even look especially more complex compared to Diagon Alley (16+). 18+ is just a suggestion, not a restriction. -

Lego City 2021 Rumours, information and discussion
TeriXeri replied to Powered by Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
I edited my post, I found out Coast Guard was a summer theme in 2008/2013/2017 so not ruling it out 100%. It's surprising there's a Beach Rescue Squad set, maybe that'll take the place of a Coast Guard starter set . Squad sounds like multiple figures, and a return to starter sets, with 79 pieces at €9,99 very likely to be a figure set and not a big build. The 2017 Coast Guard starter set had 3 figures, 76 pieces and a shark. -

TeriXeri replied to Powered by Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
I do hope it's less Lego City Adventures and more back to a more basic City without required subthemes or named characters. Now , I'm not ruling out the return of Coast Guard for 2021 yet, as that has been a summer theme, but maybe LEGO is taking a step back instead of requiring a full subtheme each wave. -
LEGO Monkie Kid 2020
TeriXeri replied to Classic_Spaceman's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I agree the timing might have been better with actual Monkie Kid sets. I still wanted some €10 sets, like City Mail Plane, a winter 2020 set that never was sold anywhere but LEGO.com for some reason (in my country, speaking of online retailers). -

Biggest surprise to me is Modern Family House (388 pieces) , in City It's been over a decade since the last regular City House (383 pieces) in 2010 On the other hand, I still hope for a Creator House 3-in-1 set, maybe a larger one in Summer 21, but at least there's a Beach House. -

But to get the polybag, you don't need to buy any monkie kid sets. -

Monkie Kid polybag in Europe was originally ending 13-9 , but seems they extended it to 18-9. -
LEGO Creator 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
TeriXeri replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I hope it's at least a decent size as well, 400-600 pieces, as that makes the alternate builds better as well. -
True, that's another good thought, since the sets suggest 1 of 4 villain type of the first couple season types (2011-2015), certainly could be an anniversary series. Maybe more Epic Battle sets in the summer for the later years then? (Wu / Nya) With the focus on mostly 2015, and some 2014, I wonder if summer would give a nice location set, like a remake of Stiix/Enter the Serpent, or possibly Skybound (2016) Lighthouse.
-
I wonder what those Epic Battle sets will contain, almost sounds like they will use those parts with the rubber wheel so you can have the characters spin/fight, like this polybag : Then have 2 of those, add some accesoires & small build, and you'll have a €9.99 set. Also each of 4 different set will have a different Legacy villain, Skulkin , Serpentine , Nindroid and Ghost Warrior.

Lego City 2021 Rumours, information and discussion
TeriXeri replied to Powered by Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
I think LEGO wanted change for a long time, they just haven't found out the right way. 2019 repack of road plates might not have sold enough, otherwise it seems very quick to retire already. Xtra cardboard playmats likely weren't succesful enough so they already retired (in Europe), and we got Road Tape instead. I bought my cardboard playmats for 50% off and that was from LEGO.com itself. Now LEGO is brute-forcing it by retiring road plates entirely, so we'll see how it'll end up, road plates probably would come back if this new plan doesn't work out. I have mixed feelings about it, for existing cities and kids, it's a hit on the market for sure, but I'm open for innovation, and personally would prefer plate/tiled roads if they become affordable as they take much less width for a shelf. Road Tape isn't a product for me as I tend to move my buildings around, as I have quite a few of 3-in-1 / Friends scale sets from the last 4 years. Now, I do have a lot of experience with road plates as a kid, and I for sure loved them (still have them with the old LEGO collection), but right now they just don't really fit on something like a shelf for me, I don't have a permanent room/table layout. And something as simple as putting 2-3 road plates in a row and form a landing runway for aircraft was super simple to set up, so lack of road plates certainly would be a miss for kids that want a quick play area. I'm not saying I love this change, but I'm not hating it either until I see the actual product lines. Having more expansion with Trees/Traffic signs etc sounds promising, Xtra so far been very nice on their polybags imo. -
LEGO Creator 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
TeriXeri replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in Special LEGO Themes
First rumours of 2021 3-in-1 sets, not enough for it's own thread yet , 4 sets listed 4 unknown. Usually with Creator , sets are numbered from small to large size, and some "subthemes" repeat every once in a while. Cyber Drone probably is the succesor of 2018 Drone Explorer, or microscale as it's the first listed set, usually the smallest. Wild Lion is the typical Brick Built animal set (probably Tan with Brown?) *Unknown* Superbike likely is the succesor of the 2017 Sunset Street Bike. *Unknown* x3 Surfer Beach House so far looks the largest set this winter wave, and is a regular theme re-appearing within Creator, with 2012, 2015, 2017 (and 2018 had a Beach House alternate build on the Yacht set) -
Lego City 2021 Rumours, information and discussion
TeriXeri replied to Powered by Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
True, they likely thought it out, with Diagon Alley being a street of "half modulars" as well, being on baseplates, and regular modulars still fill most of the area of the baseplates with the sidewalks etc. Haunted House is a standalone building, with hinges, so normal plates make sense there as it's an irregular size. Also Diagon Alley can be repositioned to form 2 32x32 closed buildings to fit in a Modular street. -
Lego City 2021 Rumours, information and discussion
TeriXeri replied to Powered by Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
I personally am ok with LEGO moving to a new system, but this system of large plates/tiles might end up costing more then actual road plates in terms of surface, on the other hand, using actual LEGO plates will look better with sets. I can see the customizability of this however, for custom sized roads, alleys, and docks, maybe not with round turns, but still hope. This also looks to be more compatible with smaller layouts of City or 3-in-1 scale buildings. I don't have a large table layout, so smaller 16x16 road modules might work better for shelves or facades of open-backed (3-in-1 scale) buildings. Overall, I'll judge when I see the new system. The main potentially negative thing I read is stickers for crosswalks, meh. When I started collecting City back around 2018, I didn't want to collect regular road plates as I didn't like the design that much (the sidewalk has less studs compared to the 80s and 90s roads as well), and since the design is now 15 years old, I was already expecting some new system eventually. Connecting large plates onto baseplate studs was really annoying as well, usually had to raise it with a smaller studded area between baseplate and the plate. A while back I got around 20 of those cardboard double sided road plates from City / Friends, while certainly not as nice as actual baseplates, they do function fairly well as temporary layout for me. I can see the concerns of height compared to Modulars as a plate is a bit higher then a baseplate, but until we'll see new 2021 sets, not sure what will happen. Diagon Alley is open-back and on 16x32 baseplates, while Haunted House is on 16x16 plates and hinged. Wouldn't surprise me to see further modulars be on 16x16 plates and possibly hinged. -

Edit, ok didn't read that the road baseplates going away completely, now seeing the promobricks article, ok that's fairly sad for existing Cities / City layout expansion. -
I don't like the idea of carrying LEGO pieces outside and losing pieces, even if it's 1x1's. Also that jacket with studs in the neck part, those are not really visible when you wear it anyway, and putting anything but tiles there would be uncomfortable Now, clothing with LEGO inspired artwork on it I'd wear, but not actual pieces on the outside that could fall off. I'd consider an inbetween solution like a LEGO studded area behind a transparent pocket, so the pieces won't fall out but would still be visible.

Baseplates still exist, just that larger City sets been mostly sprawling smaller builds now. Road Plates, 48x48 Grey, and 32x32 (bright)Green/White/Blue are still available. Of course selling Tan, and Light/Dark grey 32x32 plates would be nice. But I don't really miss baseplates in sets, back in the old days there were no 8x8 , 8x16 , or 16x16 regular plates. I understand LEGO puts baseplates in sets that fully use them, but they don't really make much sense in a smaller set, and City sets are already pretty bad price ratio at times. Still, to fit in the discussion of 2021, the 60236 Straight & T-junction and 60237 Curves & Crossroad are on the "maybe retiring" lists, personally I wouldn't mind an entirely new design. -

LEGO Hidden Side 2020
TeriXeri replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Seems they pulled off the same thing as they did with Nexo Knights, having many monsters unique to just Media (app/video/books) instead of physical sets Now of course can't expect everything to be made into sets, but some smaller things in magazines I wish were made into toy form like Season 2 Nexo Knights had Lightning Scurriers using existing LEGO parts just different colors, and using unicorn horns instead. -
What would you want from a new Lego monorail system?
TeriXeri replied to Trekkie99's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I'd rather see LEGO develop some official motorized set for the rollercoaster track, maybe some new curve and slope parts, and use that instead of a entirely new system. Also would love to see some rail packs being sold as seperate sets. Not sure if banked curves would work but that could be nice if it did, for both monorail and rollercoasters.
