  1. Ahhh.. don't talk to me about steering issues!! I'm using rack and pinion, and using gearing to create steering modes introduces slop... it seems small until you put wheels on and its about 10 degrees of steering!! I can live with it for now as the rest of the chassis is finished, but i'm already planning a Version 2 with LA's.. I looked at fastrac's as a moc idea, they're a great vehicle. I'll have a go at one at some point! Just wish TLG would explore this area more - imagine a licenced fastrac?! It would be awesome. or a big Case or JD. so many different form factors - cars are all the same ( sorry car fans!!), gearbox and suspension. tractors? Conventional, articulated, tracked, articulated with tracks.. and Case Magnums with tracks on the rear. Endless variety!! Sorry.. i've gone on for long enough now!! Just love tractors
  2. It did cross my mind, but the plastic tracks aren't great for that kind of thing.. we need some proper rubber tracks! i've been trying to find some 3rd party rc tanks ones, but the sizes are wrong... I'd really like to build a big scale 9RT, and a 4 track as well of course! Either JD or Case. ps I remember getting the model on your avatar when i was about 10 for xmas!!
  3. Too wide?! I'm wounded... Wait until you see my Xerion with 4 of those 130mm tyres! its a monster!!!
  4. My Axion moc using claas tyres on the front and some 3rd party 130mm ones on the rear was to scale, including track width... they do look better if you're at least close to scale. It was tight though, the chassis at the front was 3 wide to allow a decent steering lock. When you looked at it from the back - big fat tyres and a 'narrow' track, it did look realistic proportion-wise.
  5. I'd love any big flagship tractor! claas was a nice teaser, but not a flagship... i've got a moc on the go at the minute of a xerion with 4x4, 3 diff locks, 2 steering modes, rotating cab, 3 point... tractors have waaaay more functions than a lot of other vehicles. And so much variety - 4 wheel, pivot steer, 4 track, 2 track. Really surprised there aren't more from TLG, it looks like an untapped resource to me... but maybe i'm biased as i love tractors!!
  6. I speculated a 9RT (this is an 8RT, same difference)... as a tractor lover, i'd pass out if they released a full flagship tractor. We need rubber tracks that are a bit wider than current tracks to get a decent scale... Anything but another car...
  7. One things for sure, if its on tracks, it won't be another 'super'car which works for me!!! Maybe it will be a big tracked tractor.. John Deere 9RT?
  8. Sometimes rules can be bent, thats why they exist!... this thread is welcomed by all, so its cool, right?! Its cost me £46 cos i've just bought the safe, but apart from personal financial losses, its a good addition to the forum.
  9. I've never seen they kind of gearbox in technic before, i love new things and this is great. The top level reminds me of a selector drum in a motorbikes sequential gearbox. I'm always intrigued when someone thinks sideways and comes up with something like this. I'm really like it! Great explanatory video too. Also, just to add.... i realise its a concept and not the final polished version, but to me that less important - its seeing an idea thats new (to me at least).
  10. This kind of project is one of my favourite things to see posted, i could watch this all day. Brilliant!
  11. I love this!! Its hypnotic.. in a good way, i was so excited when it returned to the 'first phase' and started to repeat... which logically it will, but that doesn't detract from how awesome it is to watch!!
  12. Ahhh, i was hoping for a mechanical solution to the steering modes that i hadn't thought of.. partly because i need a no-slop solution, but also to be ultimate, two server motors isn't really offering 'modes', just free-form steering axles? Also, is there a central diff in there.. if not the front-only 'mode' will torque it up and blow it apart (as will slightly mis-aligned server motors in any format..)
  13. I know the mining truck is fake, but wouldn't a proper big mining truck make a change from another gearbox+suspension aka another supercar!?? Hoping for something unexpected in H2, like bwe was... just not another gearbox + suspension.... pleeeeaaaaassee!!!
  14. Hi, this seems a great place to ask a big question i've got.... can we have a beginners overview of mindstorms? My knowledge of it virtually zero, to the point where i don't know what the key components are, where i would start, or how to go about it - But i've seen what its capable of and am very interested in it... Now, i'm 100% sure i could buy some stuff and be up and running pretty quickly - at least i'd hope so, i'm a developer for a living ! - but a nice basic overview would be great, and maybe helps in terms of accessibility for others too?
  15. I would say they were... doesn't look 'fire and forget', which spoils it a bit for me.
  16. So 2H flagship could be a known animal within 10 weeks?!
  17. Am i the only one waiting for 2h flagship?! I like the other stuff... but the real excitement for me is the big flagship.. ..are there any rumours about it?
  18. @efferman I'm really enjoying this thread - i love mocs that use LA's and gearing and motors and levers... it feels like proper technic to me. Those diff carriers look great too.. may have to buy myself a couple.
  19. without electronics, lsd's are tricky, especially in lego. Torsen diffs are the best compromise.. they never lock, but are a nice solution.
  20. I'm surprised the RTC looks as big as it does next to BWE... Surprised in a good way, i like a whopper! Very interesting pictures. Still love BWE, amazing set. Got RTC, but its wrapped up waiting for xmas!!!
  21. I recently needed an inverter.. the biggest issue i had was slop caused by the driving rings. Built a gearbox-type instead, but the number of gears needed introduced nearly as much slop... Anyway back on topic.. you can build something more compact using the old 16 clutch gears. But if its for steering like mine was, don't bother!!!
  22. Interesting that nobody seems to have mentioned the obvious angle thats repeated in the video - relaxation. Especially when, in the thread on here about why you build with technic, many people myself included, said we found it relaxing... ...so if i were TLG, and i spotted the relaxation sub-niche, how would i target that market? Smash it with a Bugatti and an Off road crane? Nah, cos that already has a market and would be dumb. They needed a new angle, and this is it. Its not meant to appeal to the technic builders because, to be blunt, they've already got us! Its new people they're after, different angle, different demographic. We're not intended to be the buyers... Simples really.
  23. Me too... but i bought the part for £2.50, bought 3 as a treat! Saved me £292.50's worth of pretty blue bricks!! Now i'm using them to activate the 3 diff locks in my oversize xerion moc using 130mm wheels!! BWE wasn't pretty, but was all the more magnificent for it. Just a rugged technic build. Thats was i like, big hairy chested sets with plenty of functions.
