  1. Love to see this, but the images have failed to load. Have you removed them from the original locations?
  2. This is a fab build. Really love the Toy Shop interior. Reminds my of one I remember as a kid. The recessed top 2 floors adds a new twist to the Modular line and means it would sit really well between the Police Station and Hotel with those terraces, and perhaps Parisian restaurant or downtown diner too. Nice to see some attention to the back too, with the alarm, and greenery. Maybe one day I’ll save up to buy the parts.
  3. I get what you’re saying, but the gap in the roof is poor, and the radiator grill at the rear makes me think it was a late add on, and perhaps the parts would have been better used in the shop itself, and maybe adding a bicycle instead.
  4. Is it just me, or is the small car build in 60347, Grocery Store, a poor attempt. The roof looks half finished, and the fact that its 4 wide, on the go kart style wheels, just doesn’t sit well with the rest of the City range. It’s almost as if its not supposed to form part of the same range. It’s roughly the same size as the fork lift, which only adds to its smallness.
  5. This is a fab looking build. Some lovely details including that spiral staircase. I might have to borrow some of those ideas if that’s ok? I’m trying to work out the roof. Sideways SNOT?
  6. Some great solutions appearing here. I’m watching with interest, as I try to make my own two car EMU to complement my little town of Modulars, thereby allowing me to keep my trains, rather than sell on.
  7. A good start to MOD/MOC of the modular format. I must admit that IF i could ever afford a second copy of a modular, this is what I’d like to do. I think you’ve managed to capture a small European town really well. The Downtown Diner will be a fair bit tougher i think.
  8. Maybe less of a base and little ‘throwaway’ builds like cameras and trees might reduce piece count. And if they use technic beams instead of the brick built pillars, then it might come in at the same sort of physical size, with the reduced part count. Those pillars swallowed a large number of the 4000 odd parts in 10261.
  9. That is some way to make an entrance. Stunning build with such a clever use of parts to create a very good likeness, given the R40 limits as well. I look forward to your future builds. Might just use this as inspiration to keep a train in my town. I was going to sell my sets on.
  10. That, if true, and they were successful, is a sad indictment of the state of adults minds when it comes to toys that are designed to allow imaginations to work. I doubt that would get much play in the UK or Europe. It would be laughed out of any court. Part of the fun I had as a child was figuring out how to make the back of the box alternate builds, or making a set that I didn’t have, from the bricks that I did. Isn’t that part of the fun when you’re growing up with Lego, or was I the only one?
  11. The alternative builds would be a welcome return for sure.
  12. I wonder how much of the final cost of a small set is in the paper and printing, plus the shipping of that extra weight (not much admittedly)? If we did ditch the physical instructions, perhaps we could have smaller boxes, so shipping costs could decrease, and maybe turn a £9 set into a £8 set. This is something of a pet peeve of mine. There’s nothing worse than opening up a new set, and finding the box half empty, or sometimes worse, and wondering what it cost to ship that half box of fresh air.
  13. Yep. That’s crying out to be bought twice by anyone who can afford it, and fit it and the track down. Yeah, me too. I havent the space for the high speed trains we’ve been getting. I purchased the white one 60051, with the hope of converting it, but gave up when I moved houses. I don’t have the space for a train now. :-(
  14. I can see what you’re getting at, and I think its probably where the staring point was for this model, but I think they missed the mark. I think the screen, and the area just below doesn’t work well with the 90* curve at the sides. Seems to me TLG could do with a 4x3x3 curved windscreen piece.
  15. Well i can’t say I’m too excited about that locomotives front end, and presumably, its rear too. I think it was partially modelled after some of the passenger units used by the SBB, https://www.sbb.ch/en/station-services/during-your-journey/our-trains.html given the attempt at making a round front. It’s a fail for me. The wagons also appear to be 6+ wide, almost 8 wide on the container and drop side wagons. The car transporter being very high is also an issue. I can see cars flying off, probably taking the wagon with it, no doubt, as the train goes round those tight bends. The loco looks a little narrow even with the handles for the (fake-again) doors. It seems a shame, as with just a little more thought, this could have been a cracking set.
  16. The Spring Lantern Festival (80107 retired) also had the modular standard connection points and fixed width paths which also meet the lego modular standard. Its worth noting that other standards do exist, usually based and expanded upon the rule which Lego stick to when their designers work on modular buildings. Some talk about minimum ground floor height (sometimes named first floor, depending upon culture), and then ratios of the subsequent floors.
  17. Ah, the difference between the US and Europe. In Europe, most schools don’t have dedicated buses, but utilise regular buses. Disabled students would be the only one to get a dedicated service, and most of these are ‘minibus’ sized, and the main wheelchair exit is at the rear.
  18. Great review for this set. Thanks. Just picked this set up from Argos in the UK, where it’s included in the 2 for £30 promotion, making the second set only a crisp £5 note. A bargain. I’ve now built one of the sets and as per the review, slightly frustrated about the gaps by the wheel arch at the front end of the fire truck. A simple fix, like the gaps at the side of the bull bars. The little sports car using the all in one base is slightly annoying too, as it restricts the kind of alternate vehicle that could be made. I like the set quite a bit, and think that for £25, its not bad value, when its £9 for a police car, and £18 for a 4+ cement truck. Even better value with the second set for £5 if you’re in the UK.
  19. Some of the older Modulars use parts that are no longer available, so are in very short supply, and therefore cost a substantial amount. There are a couple of alternate workarounds I believe, for some. For the cinema, you’d probably end up spending about the same as picking one up used, by the time you’d got all the bricks, and you’d still be missing the stickers, which are quite a few on that particular modular. The car in that set is also a bit odd, with very small wheels.
  20. To me this seems very sensible. We have the modular buildings, which are the 18+ versions of the CITY theme, so why not have city trains, and 18+ plus trains. There’s clearly the desire around, maybe not to the same extent as the Modulars, but enough. i also agree that there’s a lot of dust collectors being released, often through tie ins, and the adidas shoe is a prime example of the worst kind. I see it constantly being discounted in stores here, as I don’t think it really appeals. The ‘studio’ sets also seem to sit around a lot. Pointless.
  21. At those prices, I’m betting on a double ender passenger train, with two cars in between, Perhaps sacking off the little mini platform we’ve had before. I hope the ends are more brick built, rather than the large one piece we’ve had these last few iterations, but i think that’s too much to ask. I think the freight train will be a mixed bag of the current version, and maybe heavy haul train. I don’t expect anything too exciting there, since the cost is roughly what’s being charged for the current version. It may even remain unchanged, much the way the fire station is a bit of a re-release. The station at this price is going to be either, A: - really good, with a fistful of figures, and a decent platform and building, probably on one the new road plates, or B: - A quick building, full of 6x1x5 windows and wall plates, a few figures and a pointless vehicle, such as a taxi, or little bus. I’m hoping for the first one, and if its good, it might make my growing town. If not, I might sack off my train line in my town. Space is too limiting.
  22. Oh yes. Bring back opening doors too.
  23. Yep. 6 wide is too limiting, and as I’ve said before, TLG needs to pause trains for a year or two, and then relaunch in 8 wide. This way, all the above will fit better, and they’ll look about right next to the rest of the city vehicles.
  24. I’m not too fussed about another roller coaster. It shows a bit of a lack of imagination, on top of a year with no release (2021). If they do release a coaster, then the only way I’d ever think about getting it, is if it could be built to intertwine with the original CE roller coaster, so it took up significantly less ‘real estate’. I can’t justify it otherwise, as I’m running out of space. I would much prefer a pirate ship, chair swing, or magic carpet if choices could be had.
  25. I can’t imagine they’ll go anywhere soon. TLG has invested heavily into them, using them in numerous sets, as well as a road plates pack. I initially was going to buy into these, however, have decided not to. I have a modular town developing, and wanted to use them as roads, but found out they’re a tad too narrow for 6 wide cars/tracks so their cost was going to be astronomical. Add to that, you’d need to get lots of spare tiles for joining them, as well as having to rebuild all my buildings onto regular plates, and raising them by at least 2 plates height, if not a full brick, just meant that they were not a good choice. I’ve gone with dark grey Ikea table tops instead.
