  1. We had a florists in Assembly square, so another one seems a little repetitive. I know there are a couple of restaurants but they’re quite distinctive in both architecture and also food style. There are loads of other shops etc they could do on a ‘shopping street’ before repeating the same again. Hardware, records, clothes, to name a few.
  2. I’m with a few others here. I love the idea of a 48x32 modular, but I'm not sure if it’ll be a single use building. If they have got one on the way for January, I’m surprised it’s not been held onto, for an anniversary set. With 18 buildings over 17 years, we’re not really near a 20th anniversary set. Mind you, Assembly Square was the 12th Modular, so perhaps there’s no real pattern. As for it being a 32x32 plate, but tall, I really hope not. It’ll dominate the rest of the series, and possibly look out of place. This is one of the reasons I’ve not yet purchased the daily bugle.
  3. I recall that some more recent modulars have had an interior box, with seemingly randomly numbered bags inside. This did strike me as rather wasteful, but one assumes had some internal Lego reason, such as shipping parts of a set from one country to another? Perhaps thats why we’ve had more numbered bags, rather than more bags of the same number. I wonder if this will change with the reduction of plastic bags in favour of paper. I also think that using standard sized boxes, so that correspondingly sized interior boxes may be used instead of bags.
  4. Totally agree, and this would tie into the proposal and wedding ‘theme’ running through a few of the modulars. (Town hall, assembly square and Parisian restaurant I think)
  5. I completely get what you’re saying regarding the size, but I doubt the 20th anniversary set would be dedicated to one single role. Assembly square was 6 or so I think (Probably more, but I can’t think of them all, and I’m not able to check mine ATM.) We havent had a single ‘use’ modular since the cinema so I think TLG are moving away from that. Perhaps we could have a 32x32 single straight build, with an A&E, and ambulance bay on the ground floor, surgery and ward on the first floor, and perhaps a split cafe with a rooftop terrace on the second.
  6. I’m always torn between ordering the new modular when it’s actually in stock, or waiting for the GWP. I’ve only been successful with the teal ‘50s car, and missed out on the removals van & Taxi. TBH, the taxi wasn’t a must have, but I would have liked the removals van. The other GWPs I completely missed, as I live in Switzerland, and the sets were often cheaper in some of their online & department stores, so i didn’t know they were a thing. I’d like to see a ‘50s police car, or perhaps mini petrol/oil tanker. I know these would suit earlier modulars, but I think they were missing a trick there. Vehicles aside, some sort of street vendor would be good, maybe a corner hotdog stand.
  7. I thinks that’s probably more of a reflection of the sets people actually own too. The Modulars have grown in popularity since their inception. for me, it’s too hard to pick. Each has their own charm, and whilst all have flaws, their all quite different both in design, and techniques used to build.
  8. Now we’ve had a cinema, and a jazz club, I can’t see another performance based modular for a while. We do need a Doctors, since we have a vet and a dentist. I’d like to see a ‘corner shop’. For those not in the UK, these are usually small grocery stores, often found at the end of a row of terraced houses. they would sell pretty much any food & beverage, plus household essentials. TBH, I’d love a full width grocery store, but can’t see that happening anytime soon, primarily since TLG seems to moving more to the split into two buildings.
  9. I thought about this, but wondered if they would be strong enough for the weight of that bonnet. Perhaps if you used 4, or even 6 across the whole front, it might just give enough of the ‘cranked’ hinge needed to get the bumper and bonnet flush at the front.
  10. I see how he grille is made now, and I think this will limit your options. You’d be hard pushed to get something to fit onto the bonnet (red) parts, without really hitting the space there for your engine. It occurs to me that you could try something using these 2 parts, A & B, tucked away into the grille area and the bumper below. The only challenge will be to get everything to line up, without showing too much of the hinge at the front, whilst still allowing the hinges to work. I would suggest making a quick mockup of the bumper and grill area, on a short chassis to see what problems there will be. Sometimes there is absolutely no replacement for actual fingers on bricks. I’ve found digital building very limited and have given up on it as a method to fully design things.
  11. The problem you’re going to have is that the radiator grille is sitting flush with the bumper panel, so this doesn’t allow for a hinge to work. IRL these things are often cranked to avoid this. Also I think from your images, the bonnet piece is 5 studs wide, and the chassis is 10 studs, so you’re limiting the number of parts you could use as the studs don’t line up between the two built parts. You’re best looking at something like this or this somehow coming from the chassis, with a bar held in something like this at each side of the bonnet construction. Hope that helps. Good Luck on the rest of the build.
  12. This is fab, with some real neat touches to create the 30s Vibe. I assume it’s not modular compatible as the base appears 100% SNOT. Makes for a nice clean finish though. Congrats on the home page link too. well deserved.
  13. I think the stunt show sets are a bit of an odd side-line. And, whilst we don’t have a current docks and coastguard, anything beach related is a bit odd too. I also think some of the current emergency services sets lack appeal when compared to previous generations.
  14. I would be inclined to go with either city, OR modular buildings, as the two don’t always sit well together. City tend to be smaller, and obviously have no backs. I hope you have DEEP pockets, as some of those retired modulars command very high prices too. I am in the process of turning a couple of City buildings into Modular style versions of themselves. Very parts intensive proposition too. I’d also say plan lots, before building. I went all in to get a railway in my town, and have now decided after just 12 months of trying to get it to fit, that it’s just taking up too much space, so will be demolishing my MOC train station, and ripping up the small amount of track.
  15. I forgot about that one. Good point.
  16. It’s the same for the Pool Hall in the Detectives Office. Lego won’t build an alcohol bar I don’t think. I remember someone on here commenting as such a fair while back. As for the design, it kinda has the same issue as some other modulars in that it really is only a representation of a Jazz Club. The same as the Boutique Hôtel, and Palace Cinema. Both are undersized buildings for their purpose. The glaring issue in the Jazz Club, is the gap to the pizza place next door. That’s a shocker. It would have been a simple, and cheap fix.
  17. I think you’re spot on there. It’s a really good blend of colours and the style of architecture is just enough to provide individuality, whilst still fitting in with others. I have the Hotel right next to it, and it does work. ATM there is nothing on the other side of the BH, as I’m scrapping my train station MOC, as its just doesn’t work. Also looking to find as much real estate on my table top, for more MOCs, and future modulars.
  18. I have to say, now it’s built and finding its home in my town, the dark red is definitely the colour to go for. The dark blue would just look unbalanced compared to the other buildings (I only have modulars from 2013 onwards). I did wonder about dark blue on the bottom, but it then hid the door and ticket booth window even more that it does with the current colour.
  19. Hmm, if its not to expensive, this one might be great for my town.
  20. I’ve decided to pull the trigger early. I wasn’t going to, and was going to wait for the related GWP, however I already have the Pizza van from the city collection a couple of years ago, so not too bothered about that one. I also have far too many vehicles for my town as it is. Snagged the Blacktron ship, plus the new year pack, so I’m good with that. Might shift the blacktron ship, as space isn’t really my bag.
  21. This is a really good model. I know Bern reasonably well, but in all my time in the City, I never saw the steam tram run. It’s much nicer than the new stuff, although it would be very cold in the winter.
  22. I’d go for this. Whilst I want, and currently have a train in my town, I’m struggling to make room for it, so making it an El or subway with a flat fronted car sounds like a good idea.
  23. So this leaks been around now for a couple of days. How much longer can TLG hold out before announcing it officially? The more I look at the images I can find, the more I’m warming to it overall. I’ve not seen the boxed image thats been mentioned, (I try to avoid instagram, which is probably why.) and the rather odd greenhouse on the top does seem a weak design for the sake of a few extra parts. And yes, the blue still seems a bit strong.
  24. I’m quite torn about this. On the one hand, it fits with the expected themes, and the triplet of jazz club, pizza place and tailor fits with the usual 3 theme idea that TLG have been using in the more recent modulars (hotel not withstanding) but the blurry interior pictures that have been circulated, suggest this may be a MOC, rather than a legit modular, as they’re quite simplistic in build techniques. That said, in an effort to keep costs down, perhaps the interiors are more simple, using fewer bricks than previously.
  25. I love it. So true, despite it being Bobs Country Bunker, in the first film.
