[SoNE Freebuild] Endor - Exhaust Hatch
MstrOfPppts replied to goatman461's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
This is a great MOC! I really like the broken tree and the general shape of the hatch. Also the inclusion of the liftarm hangin from the vessel is a nice touch and well executed. The only thing I'd complain about here is the base. It's well made apart from the edges around it. In most places they are too square or sticking out too much with no particular reason and again you have a gray plate stickig out just for the sake of holding the speeder? Also the hole in the middle could be skipped and could be plated with some smaller plates around to make a crater effect. There's some pretty nice bases build with plates only in Historica forum and I think that most of the magic is achieved by using different wedges ... should give it a try and keep up the good work! -
I really like the idea and the fact that you decided to build something like this. The execution thoug h lacks a little bit for my taste and that is for two reasons. Firstly the tree looks too flat - more like backdrops since it's not built all around or at least so that it's not too obvious it's hollow and flat from the angle you take the pictures from. Second is that everyone already knows I'm not a fan of brickbuilt creatures in any size. I think it's really hard to achieve decent smoothness of life forms with bricks that are mostly square. I admit that I didn't know those beeings even existed. And if it wasn't for the title and google I would have no idea what I'm looking at atop that tree. But in general it's an OK MOC, the branch work is nice and I really like the story you're developing around your character! You've built quite something and let me remind you that you're only alowed 4 judged freebuilds between episodes. I can't remember if you've exceeded that number, but if you did, choose which to get judged or save some for after this episode is finished

Being promoted to the Imperial Department of Military Research, my mission was to lead the construction of the shield generator on Endor. After finishing the landing pad and clearing the area for the generator, Lord Vader paid us a visit. I presented him our plans that were outlined by my new colleague Karin. He was satisfied with the progress, since for once we were on schedule. But he found some of our troopers showing to much compassion to the natives disturbing. I promised him to take care of that matter ... Okay, creating studless foliage really is mission impossible ...

Oh dear, the Rebels have vampires now!? Welcome and enjoy your stay, I see some more excellent MOCs coming in from the wrong side ... -
I must agree with VK-318, that I too have a feeling that your MOC's are becoming less appealing. I can't find the right words and I don't want to say they are worse and I definitely don't wan't to say they are simpler. I tried LDD myself a couple of times and I really understand how much work went into aligning all that foliage and I must say that the efect turned out really well. Also the uprooted tree is a nice touch! Yet there's something missing for me to have that WAW! effect. I don't know maybe you could achieve that by going bigger (making a whole circle of the explosion area) or adding some figs for more action? Maybe even adding two more broken trees would do the trick to bring some more diversity to the all green foliage? The TIE is nicely built and detailed with some nice greebling. But maybe including a vessel that is not so common might also improve the MOC. Maybe a prototype or something that hasn't been built plenty of times in bricks? As for the story, I'm not much of a reader, hence my late reply to this topic ... I enjoy your approach to SoNE, the story and all the inner conflicts yet I think that it could be said in less words too P.S.: I really feel bad for my post sounds far worse than your MOC actually is But I think you're the type of guy that will understand it the right way! Maybe for your next MOC try building it first and then develope the story around what you've built

[SoNE Episode V] The Invasion begins
MstrOfPppts replied to markus1984's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Very nice build, I think I got used to your MOCs being shot so that the edges are not seen. One question though, how do you end them? Does it have smoothed edges or does it just continue out of scope and end with some studs? Because when I tried something similar in my pirate builds for comics, I always ended building far more than necessary or having an unbuilt corner in the images ... Anyway, plenty of stuff to like, great details on the walls again and the micro part with the planet is also cool. The ships have plenty of tiny gaps, but I guess that's as good as it gets if you're trying to build them completly studless. And there's also some anti-studs visible at the front of the thrusters ;) But I know how hard it is to pull that one off, I tried building an AT-ST for this mission and just gave up ... -
[SoNE Freebuild 13] "Welcome to Fondor"
MstrOfPppts replied to MKJoshA's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Wow, I really think you're getting better with each build! This scene is really nice with some interesting figure combinations. Maybe you could add even more figs, to represent the crowd more and nt only have mandalorians in line but also some civilians and some other species, to make it more SW. The hole in the floor is excellent and the build is very clean and smooth. From this aspect I think it's much better than your Tatooine one. The only things I'm not too fond of is the trans orange lasers mixed with trans red and the trans clear parts under the seat and the computer. I don't know are those objects supposed to be in the air? But I think there's no need for that and any other solid color would do better. Also I wouldn't make the wall with laser doors feel cut out from the rest of the wall - no cheese slope and add another line of plates under the tiles. This way the wall would seem more connected to the side wall and the gray tiles would also be connected on the top for a more solid build ... -
[SoNE Freebuild] Endor - Crash Landing
MstrOfPppts replied to goatman461's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Well the positioning of the TIE parts is quite unusual, since wings would probably stay behind after getting disconectef for their bigger air resistance. But nevertheless a nice idea for a MOC and I like the cockpit part stuck in the tree. The tree itself however could use some more work, at least to cover the gaps at the bottom ... -
Recognizable tatooine scene with a lot of junk and details. I really like the disintegrated droid parts in the barrel. Though I find the building a bit too ruined, where you can see right through it. You must have gotten that from the castle builds ... There's another minor problem and I think it's the colors. I won't talk about the skin color, though everyone knows which side I'm on. But I do think that there's a bit too much gray. The stalls could be made of wood so ithink that some brown would add more diversity to the colors. Also I think that the dark red / blue goes with the tan and other earthly tones better and I remember stalls having darker coverings. Other than that it's a really nice build and I like your story telling. I hope I'll have some time to start some of my freebuilds soon. I always wanted to use the Gran minifig which is one of the coolest species TLG did for SW!

A nice looking robot and he indeed looks like Igor :) I don't get the Russian accent association and I don't remember how he talked in that cartoon. I do think that the robot arms are a bit big, since for surgical work with human beeings you need finer tools to work with very little space ... The base is also nice and I don't mind the different tile usage on every second wedge pair. However I do think the wall would look smoother if it was 2 bricks wide only build in the middle of two wedges. But I see that 10 pairs of wedges don't fit in a full circle. Maybe use different wedges where that is possible with 8 pairs I think? The wall would then be straight like walls usually are and you wouldn't have a problem with covering the gap on top of it.

Ah, so. This is what I really like about this hobby. You can learn something new every day!

Awwww, I wanted a teddy bear Ewok tag ... but the death star plan is also cool though it looks like it's printed on a head instead of the 1x1 round brick

Flower Quiz....spin-off from Serious questions about....
MstrOfPppts replied to Superkalle's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I guess because the flower is so tiny it fits into the list of parts you get a spare of. For easier calculation you get 1 spare for each stem instead of just 1 spare per bage ... -
Very nice looking ship! You really do an excellent job with all the curves, be it in LDD or real LEGO. Great job!

[SoNE Freebuild] Testing the RZ-2b prototype
MstrOfPppts replied to Bob De Quatre's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
So you can build in real LEGO after all And what a nice creations you make! I'm a big fan of the SNOT brickbuilt wings on such little fighters. The design is very cool though a little non OT? -
(SoNE - Episode V): Furry and Smelly
MstrOfPppts replied to MontyPython's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Great work on the ship redesign! Looks a lot better - though I have to mention it, since I already "attacked" goatman, that your entry too looks more like two creations. Maybe try making the base a bit bigger and put the ship on the upper level. Another very minor note: Including the taun-tauns just because you bought a couple is a bit silly as was going to the planet that was already visited in an episode. Though there's nothing wrong with that and I understand it's new for you, I still think you had far more possibilities ... -
Excellent! I love it when people come out with some very original ideas. And on top of that, the execution is top-notch!
-
Very nice model and a well deserved 2nd place. The competition was pretty hard at the top 5 places ... Shame that the 1x3 arch brick does not exist in that orange color. It would improve the square side gaps a bit, but it's still an excellent model!

Serious question about Lego flowers
MstrOfPppts replied to BirdOPrey5's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Hahaha, this is hilarious! But on a serious note, the toilet paper over has more functionality - when pulling directly down or toward the wall, you squeeze the paper against the wall which produces enough friction so that you are able to rip the piece with just one hand I guess that the stud up and toilet paper over are connected ... How about a Flower competition between the studs up and studs down groups? Create a up to 16x16 vig with flowers used in your preferred way. The group scoring a higher average of points given by public vote, uses the only right way! -
MOC: Cologne Cathedral - Architecture for Eurobricks Event 2014
MstrOfPppts replied to Aredhel's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Looking at the images of the real building, I'd say this was quite a hard task. It has a lot of spikes and so has your models. Maybe using normal plates instead of tiles for the steeple roof would make it even less smooth. I'm not too sure about using both dark grays, it makes it look more colorful than it is ... I like the bats at the top to represent something that is not an ordinary cross and the roof in new color looks way better ;)- 9 replies

Serious question about Lego flowers
MstrOfPppts replied to BirdOPrey5's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I don't think I ever used flowers in my MOCs, but I remember all my instructions having them studs up, so that's the right way for me. Back then when the flowers were introduced the SNOT techniques were not yet popular ... :) -
[SoNE V] - Preparing for the Mission - Hangar 29
MstrOfPppts replied to goatman461's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Ok, I'll try to explain myself though note that this is my personal opinion. I think that each episode build should be one MOC. If that MOC covers multiple disconnected areas, so be it, though I'm not a huge fan of that either. Changing a few fig positions to tell a story is one thing, but here you clearly have quite a few MOCs ... For example the first image doesn't fit anywhere in the hanger? The ship carying the walker is something completly different than the hanger containing any other ship ... though again, the creations are really nice. Anyway it's just me, but I usualy find topics with more than 10 images a bit confusing. Maybe if a MOC is really huge, but I'd usually put multiple MOCs each in it's own thread. Then we come to the presentation, which is also a criterion by judging. The pictures are nice and sharp, but some of the creations are not shown from all the angles. For example in the 2nd picture there's an interesting robot only seen there and only from above. Which may sound you need to add more pictures, but there's already a ton :) I don't know what the judges are after, but I guess effort or quantitiy are things that don't play a big role. What I'm trying to say is that if you choose the vehicle you like best and post images of that in the hanger, you'll get the same amount of points if not more (That's how I'd judge it). I'd really hate to be a judge in this situation. What do you score under design? Each model on it's own? The average score? How creations work together, though you can't even see them all at once? ... Here's an image of the "unfinished" areas I had in mind: Again, it's my thoughts, wait for what others have to say ... -
What a great build! There's a lot going on and everything is spot on. I do have one question though - have you thought about using a SNOTed ground in white? Because from a closer view, these tiles look too much like ... well tiles :)
