Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Lyichir replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Ideally I'd really like to get a modular building that's completely wheelchair accessible, now that there's a wheelchair piece. Town Hall is the only one that has had an elevator and you still had to climb steps to get to it. A ramp would be a wonderful modern amenity for a future building. -
There's apparently a new pink color coming out next year called "Vibrant Coral". Haven't seen it in person but the image I saw of it from a Lego part database looked almost like a very vivid light red-orange. Unfortunately I no longer have access to the images so we'll just have to wait and see until it shows up in a set picture.

I don't know... yes, it's out of scale, but not in an unprecedented way (look at the multiple Hulkbuster sets in the Marvel Super Heroes theme). In fact, the scale seems like it'd be suitable alongside things like Hulk-sized bigfigs (which might be used for Roadhog or Reinhardt) or a brick-built mech for D.Va (which will basically have to be scaled up to comfortably fit a minifigure). So it would not surprise me if they're exaggerating the scale a bit for most of the biggest heroes just so that no one of them individually sticks out like a sore thumb.

[MOC] Ice Planet 2002 | Mobile Research Laboratory
Lyichir replied to Norton74's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
This is a fantastic build with an amazing interior but I almost feels like it suffers from a lack of neutral colors on the exterior. Changing some of the details like the "vents" on the exterior to a color like black might help—that'd both make it more authentic to the color scheme of the Ice Planet sets and help to make those details seem less washed out in a sea of blue. -
[Review] 21042 Statue of Liberty + Comparison + Pimp Guide
Lyichir replied to Holodoc's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Just noticed that the front page article about this review twice calls the set the "Statute of Liberty"... Anyway, great review. I love to see a review that goes above and beyond the call of duty by featuring comparisons to similar sets. It's not a necessity for judging a set on its own terms, but it's much appreciated. -
Doesn't seem particularly likely to me. A mechanical spider is a pretty suitable subject for a spider-themed hero, and the reuse of a suitable recently introduced part is more common sense than anything else. It's not unheard of for designers to reuse unused concepts from earlier themes. But I've seen nothing to suggest that there ever WAS a summer wave for this year that got "cancelled" (versus never getting approved for a sixth wave in the first place). And considering we don't even know if any of the designers for the new Spider-Man sets even worked on Nexo Knights I think it's far too early to jump to that conclusion.

LEGO Star Wars 2018 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!
Lyichir replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I think that might just be the lighting in that one pic (that has some awful white balance, among other issues). In the official pics it looks to be dark bluish grey. -
New Lego set is a colorful children's toy confirmed.

The Lego Movie 2 - The Second Part 2019 Set Discussion
Lyichir replied to Fenghuang0296's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I mean, firstly, they wouldn't necessarily have to be typical "AFOLs"—I'm sure working at Lego would be enough to generate at least a passing interest in the brand. And in the case of licensed themes, it's not just a matter of being a Lego fan, but also of being excited by whatever pop culture license is involved. In those cases, they're not just leaking a toy, but a potentially unseen character from the latest Star Wars/DC/Marvel movie. Minifigures are also really, really small, and easy to stuff into a pocket. So that lessens the risk involved considerably. Add in the potential reward (in cases where the figs are sold for well above their value to YouTubers craving an early scoop) and it's easy to see why it could be a tempting proposition, at least for less scrupulous employees. -
The heart boxes might use new heart-shaped plate pieces that I saw on a part database recently (before they removed all the 2019 parts). There was a 6x6 heart plate (basically a 4x4 plate with 2x4 semicircles on two sides). That said, I don't know for sure if those are for Friends—they might be for the mini-doll faction in The Lego Movie 2, like the 3x3 heart plate seen in several of the sets that have been revealed for that theme so far.

Her spinner seems to be Dark Azur and Transparent. All of the spinners seem to be solid/transparent blends: Kai: Bright Red/Trans. Orange Jay: Bright Blue/Trans. Yellow (or possibly Trans. Fluor. Green) Zane: White/Trans. Light Blue Cole: Orange/Trans. Brown Nya: Dark Azur/Transparent Lloyd: Warm Gold/Trans. Bright Green Wu: Warm Gold/Transparent Garmadon: Black/Trans. Bright Bluish Violet One exciting thing about these spinners is that they have more connectivity than the previous Spinjitzu Masters or Airjitzu spinners. The sides have 3.2mm bar "handles" and the bottom seems like it might even feature anti-studs (or at least notches around the edge) to attach to studs. It's hard for me to tell whether these will use a similar "core" and spinner mechanism to the Airjitzu/Spinjitzu Masters spinners or will just use a boat stud like the classic spinners. Either way, they're the most "show accurate" depictions of Spinjitzu so far, actually resembling the elemental tornadoes the characters create around them.

Good review! I do wish it had included a comparison between the Angry and Queasy versions in this series and The Lego Movie sets (since both of the ones from this series have a somewhat brighter color scheme, especially the latter).
-
Parkour? That's pretty cool as a concept for a Friends set.
-
To be honest, I'm already kind of regretting it... ever since shortly after I shared the information beyond my immediate friend group, the site that I had been getting it from started forcing a login to see the parts database. And I'm not sure I'm able to get an account due in part to a language barrier, essentially keeping me from using a resource I had become quite fond of over the last year. But then again, it's not like it was information that I was legitimately entitled to, and I'm not even sure how long it would have been before Lego cracked down on it if it had remained publicly available, anyway. It just sucks to feel indirectly responsible for making it inaccessible.

We're starting from a very low base of information. I know about set names and parts, but not how those parts fit into the sets or how the sets even look. The Day of the Departed sets might have felt similarly confusing if all we had was a list of minifigure parts, printed parts, weapon parts, etc. but no idea how they all went together. After all, we had no idea that the various villains in that special were just museum replicas brought to life by Sensei Yang, nor the relevance of the Trans. Neon Green weapons they all wielded. And if all we had were a context-free list of parts and sets, we might not even realize that it was a "blended wave" of both Skybound and Day of the Departed sets. I will say that the blade I was talking about is the one used on Killow or Mr. E's bikes in black, but in gold this time, and that it would not entirely surprise me if it were used to replace the large "katana blade" parts as the foundation of the Golden Dragon's wings.
-
No idea. I reckon there's a chance, especially if the Docks sell well, but even if there is it would probably be a summer set and we might not know about it until the toy fairs (perhaps even later, if Lego once again keeps their toy fair presence focused mainly on already released sets).
-
Just to clarify, the only things I know are from the new parts, so in most cases I have no idea which existing parts (including printed faces, hair pieces, etc.) will be used. However, I would assume it's the movie designs for all the ninja since golden ninja Lloyd's head has the green eyes and lighter eyebrow color from the movie.
-
Do you mean the Overlord? Brand-new. It's a face more like the 2014 "Rebooted" Overlord on a Trans-Purple head piece. The armor is more like that version too, with a golden ribcage/armor print.
-
Just to clarify, the Overlord fig has four arms. I have no idea how many arms the giant stone warrior will have, since the only way I've identified that there is one in the first place is by seeing the printed face. I suppose that if it is based on the one from the show it'll probably have four arms, though. It being paired with the Earth Driller might make sense... alternatively, I'd considered that it might be paired with the Samurai Mech, to give it a humanoid foe at a similar scale. The Overlord himself is probably paired with the Golden Dragon.
-
Yes, but printed with fissure patterns (hence why I assume it goes with the Earth Driller).
-
Pssst... not sharing my source since I don't want it ending up on Lego's radar and getting shut down, but it looks like next year we'll finally get brick separators in a new color... Bright Bluish Green a.k.a. Dark Turquoise a.k.a. good old fashioned TEAL.
-
So I don't really want to divulge my source since it's probably leaked (and too useful a source to risk losing access to if it gets on Lego's radar), but I've got some information about some of next year's Ninjago parts that in turn give some insight into the sets. New Spinjitzu sets seem like they'll feature some very cool looking co-injected elemental tornado pieces. Can't tell at this point whether they use the core and launcher of the Spinjitzu Masters/Airjitzu/Dragon Masters sets, but it's plausible. If so, these would function as "rims" for those, but also seem to feature more attachment points than the other rims we've had. The ninja seem to have a new type of mask, one piece with a differently colored headband. All six ninja+Golden Ninja Lloyd are represented. Returning baddies include: Nuckal and Kruncha (who seem to use Wyplash's head, so will be interesting to see what headgear it's paired with), a couple Venomari, the Overlord (who now uses a Trans. Purple/Black ghost trail like several villains from the Possession wave and Movie Garmadon's torso extension), an Anacondrai (probably Pythor?), Stone Warriors (with green and yellow face paint, the Jungle Garmadon hat in red), a GIANT stone warrior (brick-built like Giant-Man and Ares from the Super Heroes theme). The big constraction-like blade from Sons of Garmadon will come in gold in something (probably a Ninjago set). The Earth Driller will use a similar windscreen to the Ultra Stealth Raider. The Ultra Dragon's heads are brick-built, with printed eyes. That's all for now, but I hope it's enough to foster some more discussion.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the theme return for BrickHeadz, if nothing else. Beyond that, though? I think the prospects are fairly dim.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Lyichir replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Perhaps that's why it DOES appeal to me... I'm quite a fan of the "mish mash" sorts of buildings like the Downtown Diner, Detective's Office, and Brick Bank. For me having multiple architectural styles blended together and businesses that overlap and interact with one another in organic, interesting ways gives modulars like that a palpable sense of history—moreso than a "pure" architectural style like that of sets like the Town Hall. Architecture that evolves and is adapted over time offers a snapshot of not just when it was first built but also of the intervening years.
