Good review! I'm impressed by the compatibility between the two sets, as well as the way the shuttle splits. It's nice that they managed to pack in so much playability despite the objects in the two sets largely serving as a backdrop for battles between characters in the game.

He looks great! I wonder who will be doing his voice in the movie?

Decent review of a pretty simple set. Do you have any of the original space helmets so you could compare the old with the new? The new ones seem slightly thicker from these pictures, presumably to prevent the kind of common damage to the original helmets that Benny exemplifies.

Fantasy themes, Elves, and how dolls got in the way.
Lyichir replied to jemm13's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
It's worth pointing out that Elves lasted four years—not a bad lifespan for a theme at all (for comparison, that's longer than pretty much every other "big bang" theme except Ninjago, which has defied expectations from the get-go). So it's not like the use of mini-dolls was holding the theme back substantially. Ultimately I loved the mini-dolls in Elves, which had a consistently high standard of quality even if slightly less articulated than traditional figs. -
Nope, new in teal for next year. It's also in a few of the Lego Movie 2 sets.

Personally I'm extremely excited for the 2019 sets. The Lego Movie 2 sets look fantastic to me, maybe even better than those from the first Lego Movie, and Ninjago also looks like it'll be having a banner year with much improved remakes of classic sets. I will agree with several of the commenters here that with the end of both Nexo Knights and Elves it's a bit of a light year for Lego's own in-house IPs. But those themes lasted three and four years respectively (pretty decent lifespans for "Big Bang" themes), and it wouldn't make much sense to try to launch a new Big Bang theme in their place, at least not for the winter wave when The Lego Movie 2 will be monopolizing so much attention and shelf space. It's still possible that we might see some new themes launching in the summer, perhaps even a more traditional Castle theme to replace the two fantasy action themes that retired last year. And the Systar System sets from The Lego Movie 2 are giving us a tantalizing taste of what a mini-doll space theme might be like.

The Lego Movie 2 - The Second Part 2019 Set Discussion
Lyichir replied to Fenghuang0296's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Hasn't been officially announced, but has already been leaked pretty thoroughly (to the point where a YouTube channel managed to buy a copy of dubious origin off eBay and make a video review). At this point there's pretty much zero chance of those leaks being false. -
Really? She's appeared in more sets in the first wave, but the same applies to Metalbeard, Benny, and Batman. And the most likely reason for all of those characters to appear more is that they're in more of the movie—unlike the first movie, in which most of them didn't show up until Cloud Cuckoo Land. The most common characters are still Emmet and Lucy (the lead male and female roles, respectively).

Are you referring to sets with damaged boxes being sold at a discount? Usually that's not a case of the seller intentionally damaging the box, but rather a set that was damaged at retail or in storage or transport being sold for a lower price (since buyers generally will only pay full price for a set that is in good condition, box included).

That's the Troublemaker, and they're neither new to the game nor a playable character. They're more along the lines of an enemy creature that you can track down and capture for rewards. I doubt we'll get it physically, although I suppose you never know.

Voted "Just fine with them". I like them even though they aren't necessarily always my favorites or anything like that. Of course, it varies from fig to fig—figs like the brick costume boy and girl were among my favorites of the latest series, and older ones like the Unicorn Suit Girl were also highly appealing. But I'm not the sort of person who sees the need to seek out a complete collection of the costumed figs.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Lyichir replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Does the Brick Bank not count as grand? Granted, it shares a baseplate with a laundromat, but it still features some pretty gorgeous classical architecture. Personally I tend to favor the more interesting layouts provided by businesses which share a baseplate, and see details like the ornate brick facade of the Corner Garage as being just as impressive as more "pure" classical architecture. -
The Lego Movie 2 - The Second Part 2019 Set Discussion

Well, color me surprised—I'd seen somebody hypothesize that Wizard of Oz characters might show up and I was skeptical that they'd burn a full four slots of the CMF series on them, but here we are. Unikitty is also a bit of a surprise, being the first completely non-minifigure in a Minifigures series. In general, these look pretty good. But after seeing these I would not be at all surprised to see a second Minifigures series for the theme next year, like we got with The Lego Batman Movie. Notably absent are any mini-doll characters (which I would have expected to be more likely than a character like Unikitty, considering they still follow a similar head-torso-legs construction to traditional figs). And considering the number of post-apoc versions of characters from the first movie, there's probably plenty more they could do with that. -
Don't forget lighthouses! ...Actually, that one would fit the theme much better (and could fit in pretty well with a mermaid-focused wave). Or at least the Golden Sun fan in me likes to think so.

Yeah, speculating on next to nothing makes things seem sound much more confusing than it is. For now, we have: A wonderful wave of redesigned classic sets featuring well-known heroes and villains. An upcoming 100th episode TV special featuring the Oni, which might either relate to the upcoming wave, a separate summer wave, or both. We're not likely to get much new information about the latter for a little while, so for now it's easier to just focus on the former from a set perspective without worrying so much about how they fit into the story (if at all).

Brick Ministry on YouTube has been putting up speed build videos of various sets. I'm even more in love with the Pop-up Party Bus after seeing how well the "disco lights" work. And the build for the Systar Starship also impresses, with so many SNOT techniques used to give the ship its round exterior. -
I mean, an extra floor could easily be assumed to be worth well over 30 dollars. I think a fix I'd prefer would just be to tidy up the tiles underneath the ground floor diagonal window with parts like the 2x2 triangular tile and 2x2 angular macaroni tile. There are some of the former used underneath the counter anyway... wouldn't have minded a few more just to clean up that edge a little.

Latest impact of other themes on historic themes
Lyichir replied to Wardancer's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
It is a little odd. Makes me guess that this particular creature might be intended to show up elsewhere as well (possibly one of the CMF series?) -
My biggest wish, among things from any previous seasons, would be Borg Tower. It's too impressive a visual design to have gone so long without any physical representation in sets (not even a partial one), and there are so many neat features that could be included, from the entrance hall to the Nindroid factory to the elevators to the helipad and Borg's office. A set like that could also potentially feature scaled-down versions of some of the vehicles from that year (either the "hacked" ninja versions or the Overlord-controlled versions). Beyond that... hard to say. The closer you get to the present, the less in need of remakes the sets become. I guess it could be cool to get some sort of arena set with more of the Elemental Masters.

These are cute, especially the Reindeer and Ghost!

Realistically... I think you could probably say that about MOST of the modulars. The idea of a street made up of the variety of buildings we had even in the first ten years defies any logical sense of zoning. Combining them all one right next to the other results in something more akin to a theme park version of a neighborhood than any sort of realism. Maybe that's why I've never felt bothered much by a modular not "fitting in" with the rest of them. If I had any desire to build any sort of realistic city layout, I'd have to populate it heavily with custom modulars to transition between the varying architectural styles and types of businesses. But that's never really been the way I play with Lego as an adult fan.

It's a cutie! Would be excellent for a Noah's Ark build! -
The Teen Titans fan in me had at one point considered Deathstroke, but that might feel a little more redundant after Teen Titans Go to the Movies already featured a more humorous take on him. Still, I feel like he'd be a neat option as a potential "foil" to Batman's own combat mastery and abundance of gear. But really there's no end to the possible options. Not only are there traditional Bat-foes to choose from, but the entire array of larger-scope Justice League villains and even potentially non-DC villains like the foes from the Phantom Zone in the first movie. Here's possibly the most out there option—Iron Man. They definitely have beef.

After seeing Misako's "true form" in Hunted, I have to say I... don't particularly care if we get them as minifigures? The resemblance to Garmadon's corrupted appearance is kind of neat but otherwise it looked a bit underwhelming, and I imagine potentially even a little boring if we got a wave of sets with a whole faction of figs like that. Shapeshifted ones have the potential to be substantially more interesting to me.
