Probably wouldn’t have been feasible for the assigned price point.

Eh... this kind of tempest in a teapot is just one reason I think it might benefit Lego to be careful trying to market through "influencers" on sites like YouTube. YouTube personalities, from my experience, can be a heck of a lot more volatile and risky than established fansites that offer reviews from a multitude of perspectives and don't have as much of an individual profit motive. I don't necessarily know if I grasp the full story but I can definitely see why Lego's lawyers might see the potential for brand confusion, if he's reviewing knockoff sets alongside actual Lego sets while using a Lego-like logo. A cease and desist letter does not seem like it'd be overkill to me.

...Why exactly are we complaining about getting an incredibly cool Overlord figure in a cheap set? I don’t see any downsides to that.

The Lego Movie 2 - The Second Part 2019 Set Discussion
Lyichir replied to Fenghuang0296's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Remember, the Ideas guidelines only apply to Ideas. Otherwise we wouldn’t get any minifigure series either, or sets with new molds. The rule against political Ideas projects most likely has more to do with keeping the community atmosphere and outside buzz about Ideas positive than about kid appropriateness. It is a little unprecedented for Lego to depict a living political figure. But it seems like she was chosen in part for her role as a well-known female judge (possibly to preside over the wedding from some of the TV spots?) and unfortunately, unlike Lincoln from the first movie, historical examples of that are scarce thanks to women’s visibility and prominence in the judicial system being a comparatively recent development. -
Um... The Last Jedi was incredibly popular (if the ticket sales weren't proof of that, its home video sales probably ought to be, with it topping the list of home video sales charts for 2018 despite physical media being on the decline for entertainment in general). Solo's poor box office returns probably had less to do with the vocal minority that disliked The Last Jedi and more to do with its lower profile as a "side story" combined with it releasing less than half a year after TLJ. Incidentally, this kind of fatigue also probably also applies to The Lego Ninjago Movie which came out the same year as The Lego Batman Movie, though its much poorer critical and audience reception indicates that that was far from the only issue critics and audiences found with it. In either case, I should hope that none of those issues affect The Lego Movie 2, both being the first "proper" sequel to The Lego Movie and following a year without any other Lego movies.

Sure. Personally, though, I do have preferences when it comes to collecting. I might buy the one-off licensed set every now and again, but it’s been a long time since I collected a theme like Lego Star Wars with any regularity. Not that the quality isn’t as good—I’d trade my classic Lego Star Wars collection for some of the newer, better takes on the vehicles, figures, and settings in a heartbeat—but I just tend to prefer the more open-ended creativity I tend to see in the designs of sets in themes like Ninjago and Elves.
-
I generally prefer original themes, with the main exceptions being the Lego movie themes, which are technically licensed but are designed with a much greater level of input by Lego and its set designers than licenses based on non-Lego movies tend to be.

I hadn't seen it mentioned here before but there's a really neat article from Animation Magazine about the animation in the movie: http://www.animationmagazine.net/features/the-lego-movie-2-playing-outside-the-box/ This is the first I think I've seen of Finn's sister's name (Bianca). Also, I love the idea of really leaning into more mixed media for the Systar System, since I've definitely seen that sort of play style from younger kids including my little cousins Ashlin and Diana. It also goes into how they worked with/around the limited articulation of the mini-doll characters—I'm looking forward to that since I think the little hops that Sweet Mayhem did to get around in one of the trailers were adorable!

The new masks have grown on me. They feel like a nice callback to the classic masks, with a bit more color, and their secure attachment makes them work better than the movie masks would on the new Spinjitzu sets, since the movie masks had a bit of a tendency to swivel. Yes, the lower potential for shoulder armor and lack of attachment points is a bit of a shame, but then again, this year seems to also be debuting more shoulder armor that DOESN'T overlap the back, which in a lot of ways is a positive (since while it has fewer connections it also doesn't obscure back printing the way a lot of shoulder armor does). To be honest, the katana holders have also always felt a little impractical to me since they can only hold a few kinds of swords—and when was the last time in the TV series that all six ninja wielded swords? With the emphasis this wave on the golden weapons (none of which can fit in that kind of shoulder armor), the katana holders are sort of unnecessary.

Do any of you think this year's Fairground set might utilize the new "gear plates" from this set? I could see those being useful for a teacup ride or something similar.

The Lego Movie 2 - The Second Part 2019 Set Discussion
Lyichir replied to Fenghuang0296's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I remarked elsewhere that they reminded me a little of the roving bands of teenage punks in some post-apoc or cyberpunk fiction, only taken to the utmost extreme. For the sake of this movie they also help to emphasize just how much of an exception Emmet is to literally everyone else being hardened and transformed by the invasion. -

It's possible that the Lego Batman Movie pack sold more poorly than anticipated due to NOT including a main character. I agree that for a collector it's a bummer (especially since it doesn't even seem to be a unique Emmet variant), but I wouldn't necessarily assume Lego didn't have a reason to opt for his inclusion. -

Considering that scene seems to take place IN the Systar System, it would not surprise me if it appears in a summer set depicting scenes from later in the movie (perhaps a castle for Queen Watevra Wa'Nabi or something like that). -
Using 1x or 2x wide bricks for buildings?
Lyichir replied to AxelE55's topic in General LEGO Discussion
2-wide walls are really thicker than you'd need for the walls of most ordinary buildings. Not to say they wouldn't work, but it cuts down on the amount of interior space you get for a given exterior. And the main advantage 2-wide walls offer, the ability to have different colors or patterns on the interior and exterior of a wall, only really works if you mostly use 1x bricks anyway. -
Latest impact of other themes on historic themes
Lyichir replied to Wardancer's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Having just gotten a Lego Movie 2 set with the new Lucy design, I think historic builders will really like her scarf/hood piece. It's one of the first neck/shoulder accessories I can think of that's designed to work in conjunction with the classic quiver piece. It also doesn't cover the face (just the "neck" on the minifigure head), meaning it should work well with a wide variety of hair pieces. -

That shoulder armor does complement the helmet nicely, and makes it look a little more medieval/a little less sci-fi. -
how many pieces of stickers for the newly released set - 10264?

No stickers. -
Never once did I say the USA was the center of the universe. I would object to your delusions that Europe is, though. I'm Aanchir's brother and have no idea what she did for you to foment such a vendetta against her. You seem really bitter and cruel and while it sucks that Lego doesn't seem to make you happy anymore you could do a lot of people a favor by not taking it out on other people. I'm not the one stopping you from getting Castle and Train sets.
-
I guess that owner of a single shop in a single country must be the one with the best insights into sales for a global company, then. Your insistence that "well made trains" would sell well also seems to fly in the face of the middling sales of the majority of Creator Expert train sets. Unless by "well made" you're trying to argue that no previous sets have been.

I hate to break it to you, but this is exactly why corporations generally DON'T accept suggestions from fans. You suggested a pretty basic spin-off of the newly revitalized Lego video game brand. Then, when Lego licensed the Indiana Jones franchise to make sets in advance of the fourth movie, that became an incredibly obvious direction for Traveller's Tales to take the franchise in. It almost certainly had nothing to do with your suggestion, which despite your passion was nothing more than a fusion of two existing brands (Lego and Indiana Jones), neither of which you can claim any ownership of. And yet you feel personally wronged because that combination of ideas ended up happening without any meaningful input from you. The better way to take this turn of events would be to simply be happy that the game you'd dreamed of and yet lacked any means to create ended up coming to exist anyway, and to enjoy playing the game you'd been hoping for.

Nope. That sticker is pretty much a direct reference to this Ninjago City poster that was released as a gift with purchase in September of 2017. I don't know if we're getting a Borg Tower, but if we were getting one this year, I'd expect it to hew closer to the TV show's depiction (like most of the other Legacy sets do with their contents), and the tower in the TV show has a pretty unmistakeable silhouette, not just a typical pagoda structure.

The Lego Movie 2 - The Second Part 2019 Set Discussion
Lyichir replied to Fenghuang0296's topic in Special LEGO Themes
If there was a second D2C it would be the first for these Lego movies. I wouldn't necessarily expect it. After all, a $100–$150 price point would probably be sufficient to give us an impressive castle. I'm also not sure whether it's realistic to expect the Rexcelsior at all, considering it seems to be set up as the biggest of Rex's vehicles and the Rexplorer is already pretty substantial. If anything I think we'd be more likely to get interior scenes from it, rather than the ship as a whole. -
