New LEGO Forma
Bartybum replied to Corrado's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Lol heritage and tradition are almost as buzzword-y as the fluff they wrote on the Indiegogo page. They really don’t mean much and shouldn’t be followed for the sake of being followed. I see no reason to not try new themes, otherwise TLC will go stagnant. This theme in particular (assuming it’s for kinetic sculptures) is one I’ve wanted Lego to do for a long time now imo. What recent TLC moves have baffled you in particular? I sorta agree on that point but I’d like to know either way specifically what it is that baffles you. I’m willing to bet that they just wanted to do a kinetic sculpture theme but are trying to play it safe since they’re not sure if people are gonna be interested in them. Ignore all the buzzwords and paragraphs about oooohh creativity and oooooh expression on the page tbh, that’s just them trying to play up to investors or something. I have a strong suspicion that Forma exists because many adults are embarrassed to be seen playing with Lego because it still holds its reputation as a kid’s toy, so they wanted some professional/artiste looking Lego instead of just the regular sets. To the average office worker a Lego kinetic fish on the desk probably looks way more professional than a Millennium Falcon. -
You’re the boss, boss. It’s your call. There’s no way someone hasn’t yet scanned sticker sheets that have the shapes you’re after. Just use that outline and make yours from scratch. It won’t be easy though, matching colours is gonna be a bitch and a half.

@Forresto Lego Stormtrooper titties always looked weirdly small though anyway. I think the blue jaw lines on the helmet are too narrow on the minifig compared to the real thing. Also, the blue seems a bit too blue, and should be darker/duller. -
New LEGO Forma
Bartybum replied to Corrado's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Looks really shit to be honest. It just flops around aimlessly; totally doesn’t look like a fish swimming. Also, $15 for a skin is an absolute rip off and needlessly drives up the price of a base set - $45 for <300 pieces is extortionate. That being said, fortunately it’s very likely not gonna have any new parts so if I decide to build it I won’t need to buy one. I hope this fish is also just the start of a whole line of kinetic sculptures, I think Lego’s been missing that sorely. -
Your best bet would be to replace as many of the gapped panels with ones that aren’t, that way any stickers you make will be large enough to have details. As to making stickers, I’m sure there’s something you could find from a quick Google search.

My god why can’t LEGO make micro replicas like this.

What but that’s so obviously Cloud City -
I’m genuinely astounded at people who are backing the skins... just go print your own for free, especially when they’re charging $15 for a single sheet of plastic which is nothing short of a rip-off. That then compounds into $45 for less than 300 pieces. The fish also doesn’t move realistically at all it’s just flopping around. The head should lead the turning movement, and the rest of the body should follow, bit by bit. Whoever designed this could and should have done so much better...

@Pvdb I think there's a risk Lego will come after any designers getting paid by Lepin since they're arguably then associated with them and hence profiting off IP theft.

@Lipko If you wanna charge for it then go ahead. Just know the risks.

As to the prevention of stolen IP, theft is one of the risks you just have to accept when you invest your time in selling instructions, and watermarks won’t do a thing to stop people from buying it - they probably don’t care who made it, they just want it. This is unavoidable with an unregulated market, so anyone who bases a large amount of their income on selling their instructions and then scoffs at others for stealing them is naïve at best. It’s akin to walking into a dodgy neighbourhood with money spilling from your pockets and then getting pissed off when you get mugged. If money’s that important, find another source of income (that being said, I fully support charging for instructions as part of the hobby, just know that it’s risky, especially if it’s a model of a real vehicle). As to helping creators, just make a Patreon and link to it in your signature thingo. Not sure why anyone would want the hassle of crowdfunding to begin with.

Technic 2019 Set Discussion
Bartybum replied to dimaks13's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I don’t believe that we’re getting two licensed supercars for a second. Calling massive bs on that link -
Ehhhh even that's debatable. I can see other users doing that just to get it over with.

Technic 2019 Set Discussion

Not that this topic is the right place to ask that, but I'm pretty sure TLC occasionally glances at this forum. Your best bet would be to put it in the future set wish list discussion topic. Not really sure what you mean by campaigning for it, but answer that in the other topic. -
Gotta say, even though I really despise Porgs, they did a real quality job with the Technic insides and functionality. I won't buy it but it's definitely cool.

Not gonna lie, when it asked me for my favourite theme I just told it 'none of your business' to be petty lol. Also, what do you judge to be normal @Jim?

NEW LEGO Powered Up motor test
Bartybum replied to Sariel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
For me they're almost the same price: https://shop.lego.com/en-AU/LEGO-Powered-Up-LED-Light-88005 https://shop.lego.com/en-AU/LEGO-Power-Functions-Light-8870 Don't know why PU are more expensive though. It's probably H Y P E and marketing megablocks.- 29 replies

I'm sure they'll bring more/improved PU components out in the coming years - we didn't get the entire Lego PF lineup at once.- 29 replies

Alternatively, buy both and sell the unopened Porsche for a profit down the line. OR sell the BWE. Dunno how much the price of the porsche will increase over time though.
