[REVIEW] 42050 - Drag Racer
SevenStuds replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks for the review Jim! The photos are crystal clear! I don't know how you get such perfect clarity! This set is curious. I wonder if its only reason for existence isn't to pay off the moulds for the Tumbler tires by adding them to a mid-priced set. It feels unfinished and a bit empty compared to the usual sets we see. As far as odd colors go, I still think the 42039 24 Hours Race Car is somewhat more appealing. And not to mention, when I see the Drag Racer, I cant help thinking of this: -
Beautiful videos! Image quality and lighting is great! Now go sleep and stop checking comments ;)

[MOC] Mini Roadster
SevenStuds replied to Skandinavc FH's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Looks very cool! Strangely enough, building this tiny is deceptively tricky. I agree that a quick competition could be very fun at this scale! Could be a scale suitable for a Christmas tree decoration :) The only two models I keep built is a 4 part micro tank and 8 part micro car. 15mm each. Love it! -
Along with the intention to find challenging models, it's also good idea to consider the inventory of parts you're going to build up with each set purchase. If you say you're interested in RC, then I would definitely suggest the 42030 Volvo Loader because it has a full suite of PF motors, two receivers as well as bigger wheels. If the yellow construction theme is not a priority, then the 9398 crawler is excellent for parts as well. You can then use these parts for larger RC MOCs like Madoca's 3662 Baja Truck. For RC needs you may also want to start looking at SBrick since IR is quite limited.

Steel Crawler
SevenStuds replied to nerdsforprez's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I noticed how you used the 64712 wheels as rims. I've seen some people using the power puller rims with 2.2 third party tires. Do you know whether your tires would fit the large racing wheels?- 13 replies

It was interesting reading about all the mods you made. You definitely have better performance thanks to it. I'm glad that you made it clear that there isn't a lack of power in the motors but a lack of strength in the connections.- 13 replies

I suggest to look at other official sets that use a similar part or mechanism. The 42025 Cargo Plane uses several flaps for example. You can see the principle in around the 5min mark. I'm sure others may suggest other models you can look at too.

Xsysiek's Custom Parts
SevenStuds replied to xsysiek's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
A good logical progression in size for the sprockets. Your digger bucket is also sized well on the 8043, a few mm different to Efferman's rock bucket. Nice! -

Looking good! Do you have any photos of the 8043 with your bucket? Also, it would be nice to see your 2 sprockets lined up with the two existing sizes so we can see the variation. -
Looks like an interesting project to build! While you're talking with LEGO, ask them when they'll bring out tires with a proper tractor tread

You will find hundreds on Bricklink. Currently some German shops have them under 10€ each. I've stopped using Brickowl since the list of parts is too limited and often more expensive.

Lego Drift Wheels
SevenStuds replied to Technic Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Pleasure Jim! Also, if you get any good results with that injection moulding setup let us know! -
I believe the two references use the same tires, and they are also the same size as the ones Efferman has in his first post of this topic. So yes they will fit on the wheels. Whether the 108mm outer diameter fits within the wheel arches of the 42030 is an entirely different question.

My bottle says "10 volume". I think its a good amount as stronger concentrations might make the parts brittle. -

Here is a comparison. Hope it helps: Left to right: 1. 44777 (68.8mm) Solid smooth 2. 44771 (68.8mm) in 8070 3. x1825 (81.6mm) in 42000 Grand Prix racer 4. 32296pb01 (81.6mm) in Sariels moc F1 Car as you put it. 5. 92912 (94.3mm) in your unimog The rims used in your unimog will work with 2, 3 and 5. You can also refer to Sariel's wheel chart, which is very handy. -

Strange that it didn't work for you. I used 3% on all my yellowed parts from the 80's and it whitened everything in less than 1 day. I did do it in summer with small batches each time, and only on very sunny days. Perhaps the UV level was too low in your case. I wonder if a UV lamp would help you since it's winter now. -

As Rohan says, only the 44777 are made from solid smooth plastic, but you will need all 4 if you want to do more than donuts. The other tires will have so much surface area in soft rubber that no LEGO motor will make them drift. Unless you go to the ice rink that is. -
[MOC] Rock Crawler

Clean and beautiful. I really like it when models have such a minimal colour scheme. The 9398 looks far too busy IMO. All the red clashing with orange and so on. The drive ability of your model looks great too!
