Birney Safety Trolley - 1910's bi-directional streetcar
Murdoch17 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Sorry to bump this once more, but I've recolored the trolley to a little brighter color scheme. However, it is build-able in other colors, such as black, and dark or light bluish gray instead of red. LDD file updated accordingly. -
1870's passenger train with 4-4-0 (American) steam engine
Murdoch17 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Just took this picture, and thought it looked cool enough to share here. Since the last time I took pictures, i removed the balloon stack, as it was too tall for my train shed. This photograph was taken at Fort Legoredo station in 1893 and features Engine number 1 (a 4-4-0 American type) and it's crew of three. The crew are as follows: On track: Leroy McCoy - fireman On platform: Sylvester Rhodes - road foreman On cow-catcher: Alex J. - locomotive engineer The 1870's vintage steamer had just been to the company machine shop and had it's balloon stack removed and the engine converted to burn coal when this picture was taken. These modifications were later backdated in the 1920's to allow to the engine to star in Wild Western movies until being retired and donated in 1967. In 2016, the balloon stack was removed again and the engine returned to steam once more with coal as it's fuel. (all special effects added in Google photos) -
1920's era steam locomotive trio + and their consists
Murdoch17 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Train Tech
UPDATE: A good friend of mine inspired me to build this loco after showing me a hover train from a TV show he watches called Legend of Korra. I changed it to red and then ran with the idea from futuristic hover mono-rail to 1930's streamlined 4-6-2 Pacific - type steam loco, which was later changed to be a Mountain - type by adding another set of driving wheels. After making it into a 4-8-2, I decided it was too similar to my brown 4-8-2 non-streamlined loco, so I was faced with a choice: A) smash the two engines together an create one where once were two, OR B) backdate the loco to a Pacific and built it in red as originally planned. I chose option A, and thus color swapped the loco to reddish brown with black stripes plus I added the tender of the other 4-8-2 loco. The tender is supposed to say "Brick Railway Systems" in printed 1 x 1 tiles, while the cab is to say "6847". Also, this reddish brown model was recently re-discovered and modified to go with my 4-8-2 streamlined locomotive. It was originally designed to look like a later version of my dark green Emerald Express train cars. Here is the engine with the train.- 12 replies

Thanks, and yes they are under represented! Here's my newly updated ship: I have redone the front end of my tramp steamer to be longer and have a sharper profile, plus it now has a inverted-slope windscreen. The ship's roof and upper deck are removable as always, and I have added an anchor to the front of the ship. The vessel's name, the EASTERN,is printed on 1 x 1 tiles on the side of the bow near the anchor. The rear of the ship features the company flag and the smokestack. Here you can see inside the ship's bridge (upper deck) and captain's quarters. (lower level) Captain Karloff is on the left. He is always ready for adventure and is very patient person, which is good as the Eastern isn't the fastest or the most reliable on the seas. Karloff also has an eye for spotting the historical value in something that looks worthless. He always has a bag of cool items he's collected on beaches, sea-side markets, and ports around the globe on his person or nearby on his ship. The one in the middle is crewman Mac McCloud, who keeps the tramp steamship sea-worthy. Mac may be slightly clumsy, but is a genius when it comes to things of a mechanical nature, such as keeping the steam-generating boilers from blowing up and knocking huge pistons back into place with only a pair of pliers and a hammer. The dog on the right is Madame Blue, who is the official mascot for the Eastern.

1930's streamlined 4-8-2 steam locomotive & passenger train
Murdoch17 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Thanks, I'm working on better passenger cars as we speak. I've already got that worked on by way of a suggestion by SavaTheAggie over on Flickr: he said it might be a good idea to put a 1x3 tile wedged partway at the end of the right-side-up slopes directly above the sideways inverted slope. (part no. 4871) If that's too confusing I'll update the pictures if you want. I didn't think of that, but to me it also bears resemblance to the 4-8-4 South Australian Railways 520 class (this type: https://en.wikipedia...lways_520_class ) Also, i am working on replacement train cars better suited to the streamlined style. EDIT: does this look better? The coaches you see are heavily modified versions of my "Spirit of Legoredo" passenger train from 2012. When built in real life, these originally black-with-a-red-stripe cars will be destroyed to build these newer, more colorful versions. The rear of the train features a wrap-around rear window and a specialized tail light.- 22 replies

Like most of my engines: no. But you could rig a 9v motor to the tender, though. Thanks for stopping by though!- 22 replies

A good friend of mine inspired me to build this loco after showing me a hover train from a TV show he watches. I changed it to reddish brown and then ran with the idea from futuristic hover mono-rail to 1930's streamlined Mountain-type steam loco. Other than the hover train from Legend of Korra, this model is not based on any specific prototype, though it bears resemblance to the South Australian Railway 520 class 4-8-4, and the Pennsylvania Railroad T1 Duplex type. This 4-8-2 steam locomotive is actually mostly already built in real life from a disused streamlined model I have lying around, all I have to do is fix the tender and build the cars, since the original cars I had for the engine are being reassigned. The tender is supposed to have "WANDER LINES" as the railway name in printed 1 x 1 tiles and 6847 on the engine's cab walls... but these printed parts are sadly not in LDD. The Combination baggage and passenger car, which I call an "express baggage", though it is actually called a combine in real railroad slang. These three identical coaches were practically copied from my dark green Emerald Express train-set models, but are remade in brown, black, and tan to match the steam engine. This observation car features a rounded rear end, in a stylized homage to the Santa Fe Super Chief series of sets. Comments, Questions, and complaints welcome!

(slight bump + update) Built with the LEGO Dimensions' Midway Arcade "Defender" cabinet in mind, this 1980's Classic Space - themed game cabinet is named Astro-Nut and is based on the Adventurers of a certain spaceship loving blue Spaceman and his quest to upgrade his ship and defend it from Alien threats and asteroids. (The Blacktron mother-ship is the final boss, and the game continues in the Space Police series of games.) This is the cabinet built with parts from my own collection, with the coin on top for "claiming" the next game. This model will go in Benny's apartment building on the second floor. LDD file for the game cabinet: http://www.moc-pages...1459287238m.lxf As a side note, I'm sorry to say Benny's apartment has been rescheduled to be built next month(May) , and not in April.

Here is my tramp steam ship as it will be shortly. Since the last time I uploaded this, I have added a sloping front windscreen, and new, steeper-angled bow and a figure of Mac McCloud, first mate on Captain Karloff's ship, which incidentally has been renamed. The vessel's new name, the EASTERN, will be printed on 1 x 1 tiles and go on the side of the bow near the anchor. As always, the vessel's upper deck and roof are grouped in LDD for easy removal. Captain Karloff is on the left. He is always ready for adventure and is very patient person, which is good as his ship isn't the fastest or the most reliable on the seas. He is supposed to be wearing this suit: http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?P=973pb0294c01&idColor=7#T=C&C=7 The one on the right is Mac McCloud, who keeps the tramp steamship sea-worthy. Mac may be slightly clumsy, but is a genius when it comes to things of a mechanical nature, such as keeping the steam-generating boilers from blowing up and knocking huge pistons back into place with only a pair of pliers and a hammer. LDD file for the updated ship / figures: http://www.moc-pages.com/user_images/80135/1459777673m.lxf The model has reverted to being a Work In Progress, as some parts (the bow) have shipped from BrickLink, while others (the letters, windscreen and the McCloud figure) have yet to be ordered. It should be just a couple more weeks before it's complete, but this give you an idea of what it will look like.

[MOC] The Golden Age of Chicken Aviation 5
Murdoch17 replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Reminds me of "The Golden Age of Ballooning" by Monty Python on their old "Flying Circus" TV show from the late 60's / early 1970's. "Zit's not a balloon, it's a blimp!"- 7 replies

But you made that post, which technically is something. I am procrastinating working on the last bits of my complete Dimensions collection: the portal. Yes, I haven't even opened the actual game box but have everything built (except the starter pack) that has been released so far...

First post edited 3/31/16: I added new train car screenshots to the freight train, as the parts for the unfinished real ones are on their way from Bricklink. They should be here soon, but until then, here's the digital version to give you an idea of what the complete train will look like when posed with 2-8-2 steam engine number 5916:- 12 replies

I would love subscribing to a Lego trains magazine, as I have been looking over Railbricks since the second issue. I would also love the instructions repository to continue: I have plenty of LDD files for build-able trains to help with this, but the problem is the instructions: I have the actual files, but no instruction guides. If someone can do the instructions I can provide the LDD files for them. I want them to be free to the public and not for-profit, as I've used techniques and ideas of other builders to make my models, such as expanding upon Zephyer1934's Constitution Train Chase instructions to make these fine locos (and more!):

I was inspired to create this model from the 2018 Jurassic World set 75930, Indoraptor Rampage at Lockwood Estate, with some design cues from set 10228, Haunted House, although in blue and white with trans yellow glass. The dollhouse-style model was built from the set pictures and from features from the movie itself, with the fall-apart play features removed and opening rear sections added to match the front half. The model also features a round "time window" for Benny to experiment with in his spare time. As usual, this classic space logo printed piece goes where this 4 x 2 slope is, just below the front balcony and right above the front door. The house without any figures, cars, or giant robots. The very large satellite dish on the roof is so Benny can communicate with the Classic Space fleet in any weather: rain, sunshine, snow, solar wind-storm, or nuclear fallout. Whatever the weather, Benny gets through! The rear of the mansion features a conservatory and the chimney flue, along with a back door and rear porch light. The house folds apart, with the two rear sections opening in quarters up to 90 degrees, while the conservatory opens up to 180 to allow for figure placement. (Up to five Technic pins can hold the model shut at key points for transportation with ease and handling with little fragility.) The front half on the found floor features the entry hall, TV room with couch and dining room. The second floor features the custom-printed super computer (un-printed here in LDD) and Benny's bedroom. The uppermost two floors features the science lab, with the time window and several other science experiments. Here is the huge 1970's super computer LL9000 (custom printed part) which takes up a sizable amount of space on the second level wall just above the entry hall. The right rear quarter features the conservatory and some furniture on the second and third floors, plus the dining room on the first floor. This section also has stairs from first to second floors, plus a '80's video game cabinet (Astro Nut, of course!) on the second floor. The left rear quarter features the fireplace and the stairs to the third floor, plus a miniature space monorail layout and a TV with VCR. This is Benny the 1980-something space guy's 1979 Moonraker made by Neptune Auto Group. The engine has been upgraded from a gasoline chugging-monster into a more environmentally-friendly Hydrogen-3 Fusion engine to turn it into a modern mechanical beast with a retro exterior. Benny added bigger tires to the car to get it over the craters of the small moon where Benny was stationed. The car also has a spare tire located on the opening trunk. The roof is removable, and the three seats can fit figures with air-tanks and helmets. The doors open in the front normally, but in the rear they open in a reversed pattern to create a wider opening. Real life version The building as it sits right now, before it gets torn apart to create the version seen in the first part above. Most of it's parts will be donated to create the mansion. As always, comments, questions, suggestions, and complaints are welcome!

what about using windscreen parts like this? I was inspired by the airplane door in your last picture.

I like what you've done with the front end, except for the deflectors. Maybe it would look better without them? or with a row of tiles on top of the studded portions? I'll post a picture soon of what I'm envisioning EDIT: couldn't figure out how you attached some stuff, so I gave up.... also tried attaching the headlights, couldn't think of how you did that either!
