  1. That's the way to do it. I usually pick up a couple of sets per wave when they're first released then hold fire. I will probably the wait until a 3-for-2 sale in TRU or Argos and wait for Amazon to price match. It also spaces out the sets a bit and stops me building everything in 2 days!
  2. This is just mind-blowing! The exterior is just amazing, then we go inside and the interior is practically like a movie set! Absolutely outstanding.
  3. I'm not claiming this is revolutionary, but I quite often just stand Chewie or Vader on pairs of colour-matched 1x1 plates - like extra little shoes! Not a perfect solution, but gives the difference in height that's needed.
  4. Brilliant thanks! The human one is not doing it for me (but I've the only human I ever got was Obi-Wan due to the clone wars styling). Stormtrooper and enforcer droid look great though! I'm really hoping we get an OT stormtrooper at some point too.
  5. I seem to be totally incapable of ever finding anything on Reddit - what am I searching for?
  6. Today I finally had a chance to do some reorganising in my attic, which mainly involved me (carefully) flattening down a lot of empty Lego boxes for storage. It was a great opportunity to remind myself about sets I haven't built up for years, but what I enjoyed most was looking at the variety of Lego Star Wars banner art we've had over the years. My personal favourites were the McQuarrie-esque Vader from the 2008 Rebel and Imperial battlepacks and the Darth Maul-topped sets from 2012 (that was a good year for SW sets in my eyes!). My least favourites - the blue and white Clone Wars sets with the close-up, front facing clone helmet image and the 2005 ROTS sets (I think the colour scheme just looks a bit cheap). It got me wondering - what are peoples favourite box-art characters and who would you like to see in the future? (I for one can't wait for the RO packaging to kick in!).
  7. Just checked out the Brick Show Resistance X-Wing review. If I'm not mistaken, the printed tile on top of the removable hyperdrive section is the front of the GNK droid from the UCS Sandcrawler!
  8. Just watched the Brick Show review of the Encounter on Jakku set - can anyone else confirm that an additional plastic canopy piece is included or was heist REALLY lucky? This could genuinely sway me getting the set as it offers more opportunities to extend the structure.
  9. I love the clear domes- the more of these we get the better. I totally stocked up when the one from the imperial carrier was on bricks and pieces.
  10. Before I start, let me just give total credit to the amazing dioramaby markus1984. When I first decided to start this MOC, I did a quick search of the forum to see what was about, and once I'd seen his amazing creation, it was hard to get it out of my mind. That said, I haven't intentionally lifted or ripped off anything from it (other than the point I mention) - both his and my creation are obviously lifted from ROTJ. Anyhows, the battle above the Sarclacc has always been one of my favourite scenes from ROTJ, and as I'd recently picked up a cheap 75020, I thought I needed something to display it. I did a big tan/teeth bricklink order without any definite plans and just ordered a load of pieces that I thought would be needed. The result... As with all my MOCs, I go more for the spirit of the scene rather than being screen accurate. The first thing you'll notice is no beak. I'm not a special edition hater, but the Sarlacc beak is one thing I really dont like - it changes the whole thing from the Mouth of Hell into Little Shop of Horrors - hence it doesn't make an appearance here. The biggest challenge here is the 'pit' nature of the build - I decided to go with a more volcano vibe (but this is going to change in the future I suspect). A build like this would obviously require a lot of tan back-filling, so I decided to use a technique I first saw suggested by Jang on YouTube (which may or may not be frowned upon here)... Duplo! Using this technique just saves time/bricks in a big way, and helped this move along much quicker. My original plan had been to attach the teeth using the 11090 bar holder with clip and attach that to concealed rails and poles. After looking at markus1984s work, I'm guessing that this is what he's done - which just means the next level up has a lot more to 'bite' on so to speak. When the 2 rows of teeth were complete, and the unseen brick shaping was finished, I started on the sand dune slopes that make up the side of the pit. I wanted to ensure at least one slope had a fairly shallow gradient in order that minifigures could be pulled in by the tentacles (there were originally 5 tentacles but it looked a bit overloaded). With slopes done, it was cladding time - covering up the exposed structure, Of course the inevitable happened, I ran out of tan bricks, which means a section of the rear is currently still uncovered (can I claim this is following the example of the UCS Ion Cannon?!?). I added more after this image but you get the idea. I'm not usually someone who insists on everything being tile-smooth, but it seemed appropriate to add tiles here to smooth out the sand effect. You can also see the beginnings of the final 'ground level' for the rear side of the MOC to the right of this image. So that's where I currently am. Next steps - build up the ground level to the brim of the pit on at least 2 sides ensuring all sides are covered and also to add more tiling to smooth things out. Of course, I couldn't resist a few action shots too! "Wait! I thought you were blind!" (Thanks to Winston Zeddemore for the face!) All comments and suggestions encouraged! Thanks for looking!
  11. Is the rebel frigate/Ahsoka set due for release on June 1st along with the other SW summer wave sets? I've got a trip to the brand store planned for that day and it can't be any other day!
  12. Wasn't there a schedule of release dates once that listed a show called 'Red Five'? I can't find the image now but I seem to remember the image was from a Disney release schedule. I was of the impression that the series was going to start after Rebels finished. Sorry - I know this has got zero to do with 2016 sets!
  13. I wonder if there's any chance this could be a Home One style interior set - the briefing room is very prominent in the series.
  14. "Soon" as in 5 minutes or "soon" as in 5 days!?! Let's see it!
  15. You're right, it is a bit on the small side but I think there's definite potential to beef it up with some ball joint pieces from a mixel or two. The main draw for me is just to get the sand green pieces and then build from there.
  16. It just plugs in and has a series of LEDs below the frosted base.
  17. Unfortunately it was just a play it by ear type thing - I do t use any software, just keeping adding and taking away until I'm happy! I could maybe do a parts list next time it comes out onto the shelf though. Thanks for the positive comments. If you do want to follow some instructions to put a claw together, the last issue of Bricks had some instructions to build a claw and a nice gantry using three official sets and some extra bricks.
  18. I love Dengar, the other minifigure is pretty useful and the ship is nice, but 35 quid just seems a bit steep. Maybe if there was one more minifigure, even an astromech would do. I think it's going to be outside my budget, especially with RO sets following in a couple of months.
  19. Here's a special May the Fourth wallpaper advertising the LEGO TFA game, featuring some interesting new mini figures - I know they won't be actually be produced, but they do look pretty cool!
  20. Agreed - also, £34.99 for Dengar (plus some black bricks and an extra minifigure) - hello bricklink.
  21. Wow, I've never noticed the V-Wings in that scene before! They can also be seen near the end of the film when Palpatine's shuttle lands at the medical tower - you even see the wings rotate for landing.
  22. I'll be keeping my eyes peeled - thanks! At 30% off, plus a good polybag I could be tempted. Thinking about it now, I do remember the sandcrawler being heavily discounted in Smythes once (there were never any in stock though!).
  23. I'd love to pick up most of the components of this set, but other than May The Fourth, I've never even seen a UCS discounted in the UK. Is there somewhere people are picking up this sort of set on sale that I don't know about? Please share!
  24. Just found this 'Assault on Hoth' review on YouTube - not sure if it has already been posted here.
  25. Just skimmed through the photos - minifigures all look great... But some of those builds are seriously half finished. The amount of technic beams etc visible inside the blast doors looks poor - then I saw the back of the ion cannon! Did the whistle for the end of the day blow and they just downed tools, Fred Flintstone style, and call it a day. It's the most half-finished, waste of bricks ever!
