Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
santaends replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I like it now, more than the past. Sure, you get less space to include custom furniture and minibuilds. But now, you're getting more tiny pieces. Which will help spruce up your older modulars with less interiors. -

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 15 Rumors and Discussion
santaends replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Talks about shepherds and men with hoofs, all I want is a sheep guy. -
Who else here is into all sorts of themes?
santaends replied to Blondie-Wan's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Creator and non licensed mostly. I don't collect every theme out there even though they look awesome.. I can count my licensed sets with 1 hand. Simpsons House, An Unexpected Gathering, Escape from Mirkwood Spiders, Big Bang Theory and Harry Potter Board Game. -
Nice to hear AFOL stories from others. Would be interesting to work in charity shop.. even if it is for a short while. Imagine all the interesting things you can find there. That Allied Avenger must have sparked off something nostalgic. I got back into LEGO early this year. Was in a monoshop and saw CMF13. It looked so alluring because of Galaxy Trooper. Tried my hands on feeling for it, and got what I wanted. He had 2 guns and that cool armour.. everything the young me wanted in a minifig. Not to mention the clips on the back to hold the guns. I could attach some of my old dragon wings on it. Thank goodness my parents did not throw out my old toys. Then I became obsessed with finding the hot dog man. I ran to multiple 7-11's for 2 weeks until I finally got him in 1 near my house. At that time I had godlike feeling skills from lots of practice. I only took 1 hot dog from the full new box, 1 unicorn and 1 king. Unicorn for my young sis, hot dog and king for me. Made me so happy to finally find the hot dog. I even built a shrine out of my old sets for him and the trooper. That day, I went home and sorted all my old LEGO by type and colour, placed them in neat boxes. Then it began. LEGO was never about minifigs for me, they were the icing. The cake was the builds. Looked up many current sets, was turned off by the extremely high prices of licensed sets. Wanted something simpler and more elegant. I remember I had lots of big burps when I was younger, as well as bigger odd shaped pieces. It was hard to build from them. Then I saw Toy and Grocery Shop. Viewing the promotional video from the official website, the small boy in the spaceman shirt was running around, then mum was manning the counter. Short legs. Bananas. Big transparent window piece. All these were new to me. Green, white, grey. Beautiful combination. 3 builds in 1. More value for money. Great price point relative to other sets. I watched the video on repeat many times over. I was hooked. A week later I went to a local store, thought long and hard and got it. The young AFOL in me didn't want to carry it in public, so I stuffed the whole set in my bag. Had to squash a corner. The shopkeeper looked surprised. I smiled and left a happy man. Went home, Mum was appalled at me downing 55 bucks. Dad was shocked, but he smiled. I am an AFOL, just like my dad was before me. Fast forward 9 months. Still a diehard Creator fan. When I started I never thought I'll spend so much as 250+ on a set. One set. When I bought an advent calendar (I like minibuilds of toys, since I got Toy and Grocery Shop) from a local seller, he asked if I wanted his MMV for 290. I said no thanks, I'm not going to spend so much on a toy. Happier that way. Fast forward 2 months, went to Japan and bought PR. Did things change. Built the PR with my mum, she enjoyed it quite a bit too. Looks like another member of the household has been convinced. Left the conscript, and was working part time for some dough (LEGO). Did the craziest thing ever. I downed 1k+ on the full set of Winter Village (First 3 were used, cottage, market and santa's workshop was MISB). You can understand why, judging from my username. I still regret that decision. I should never chase EOL sets no matter how good they look. Foolish decision by a LEGO addict. I could use that money for so many new sets. Now I attend local LUG gatherings, browse various LEGO fansites and forums, and am more into it than ever. I'm also a happier person now. Just hope I don't burn out, or go into dark ages because of work.

Nice facade, love the colour combi earth green, dark tan and brown. Very classy.. The toy story tile did it for me though.. brilliant use of that piece. The small canopies with plates clipped on is a little off, but I suppose that's one of the best ways to do it.

Great use of the mudguards for the facade, amd the paper cutouts for the computers! Did you spray paint the apple logo on the windshield?

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Bricks. You have them. Mod what you don't like, leave what you like. Happier that way.. :) -
The modified 1 x 1 scroll with open stud can be found on the highest level roof. It's in grey. Below it is bucket handles clipped vertically if my eyesight doesn't fail me.

Airjitzu temple. Daily bugle showdown. Attack on avengers tower. Heartlake hotel. Tower of orthanc. Diagon alley. Medieval market village. Enjoy the dose of cool stuff.. :)

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Grey and white? Oh man.. those colours are prone to yellowing. Sand green windows? I'm ready for you! Nevertheless, will be looking forward to it! It will be a great set. -
Emerald Night, Horizon Express, Metroliner. Those are my top 3.
-
Really beautiful builds.. how do you get your picture inspirations from? Nice black background too. Now if only Archi studio came in tan.. haha

Halloween is round the corner. Seasonal sets are always widely received, regardless of whether you celebrate it or not. This is the first seasonal vignette released in Singapore. As such, queues were long and stocks always ran out within 2 hours of restocking. Vignettes seem to be more popular than the brick built animal seasonal sets, like the 40090 Halloween Bat. Interesting point to note, all of the seasonal vignettes do not introduce new colours for existing moulds, or new prints for minifigures. Nevertheless, they always include semi rare parts, like the olive green stems as well as offer great re- use of minifig parts, like this pirate torso. Name: 40122 Trick or Treat Halloween Set Theme: Seasonal/ Exclusive Year: 2015 Pieces: 133 Minifigs: 2 minifigures Price: £8.49/ $9.99/ 18.90 SGD Resources: Brickset, Bricklink Rebrickable Inventory: http://brickset.com/...2-1/rebrickable LEGO Official Shop@Home Description Dress up as a witch for a Trick or Treat fright night! Role-play an eerie Halloween scene with this spooky LEGO® Trick or Treat set! Dress up the girl minifigure as a witch, complete with pointy hat and broom, and take a bucket for the treats you hope to receive. Tiptoe past the bat perched on top of the dead tree to the doorstep of the haunted house. Watch out for the big spider and the tombstone on the front porch and be prepared for a big fright when a skeleton answers the door! Includes 2 minifigures with assorted accessories: a female and a skeleton. Includes 2 minifigures with assorted accessories: a female and a skeleton Features a buildable haunted house entrance scene including an opening door, tombstone, plus assorted elements including a spider, pumpkins and sickly green plants Also includes a dead tree with a bat and pumpkin elements Role-play a spooky Halloween scene! Creep past the bat in the dead tree Get a fright when a skeleton answers the door! A perfect Halloween gift for LEGO® lovers Measures over 3” (8cm) high, 2” (6cm) wide and 2” (6cm) deep Image of original box: It was deboxed and flattened on the spot and put in my file. As a young AFOL, I couldn't bring myself to lug LEGO boxes to college, even for a short 1 hour. I enjoyed the various role play scenes on the back of the box. The lack of a theme logo like "Limited edition 2015" may suggest it may make a comeback next year. Purely my own speculation. After all, sets like Birthday Table Decoration had an extremely short shelf life, but on S@H, it says it is in production. Last year's halloween bat made a comeback this year, in my local stores. Front: Back: Random page of instructions: Here are the sealed bags. Eyes lit up upon earth green plates.. haven't had those in my collection since Winter Village Post Office.. Everything laid out. This is quite therapeutic. Some parts of interest My first 65 2 x 1 x 2 slope. Surprise find was the dark orange brick with stud on side. Didn't think they'll include that colour in a halloween theme set.. The olive green stem is solid, for those who didn't know. Had always thought they were rubbery. One of those nice elements you can't help but wish they included more. Finished build. The roof looks smoother than expected, but the tip is a bit off. The centre should have had another 1 x 2 plate before putting the double slope. But what's LEGO for, if you don't customise things. The transparent brick and plates were used nicely. This is a good time I seen it being used, other than stained glass windows. *cough* Pet Shop *cough* I love the miniature pumpkins. Always nice to have plain minifig heads. Small tree build is beautiful. 4 x 3 leaves simple and elegantly placed. If they had the bigger leaves instead, it would look out of proportion. Spare parts. They gave extra bones. Pleasant surprise. After all, this is my first skeleton since 1997.. "Trick or treat" Old and new skeleton..from 1997 Witch's Magic Manor. I like the new torso mould. Now the arms are posable. The old hands were great for play though. Used to connect 2 arms together and treat him like a gorilla, since they swing freely. Now I just take pictures. Size comparison The height seems to be standardised for vignettes. Around 8 studs tall. Personal thoughts: At first I had no intention of getting the halloween or thanksgiving sets. Only wanted the 2 christmas ones. However after looking through the parts list.. price per part was pretty good, and I needed something small to practice for Reviewer's Academy. Previous submission hasn't been graded, so I posted this here. I love the colour combination of purple and black as the primary colours. Much better than orange and black, which tends to be overused around this season. As a town builder, this is a great set for inspiration on how to beautify your door fronts. Summary Review: Playability: 7/10 (Lots of knock knock jokes) Design: 7/10 (Roof is a little off, but transparent colours used to great effect) Parts: 8/10 (They were great, but none exclusive, and no printed tiles) Minifigures: 8/10 (Detailed back printing, no dual face print, but nice hat) Price: 8/10 (Great price per part, not the best. But the best always comes in big sets..) Overall: 8/10 (A solid affordable set)

Short answer, no, don't think so. As they re released Toy Shop, it will probably take a while to re release another set, much less from Winter Village. Long answer, maybe.. great set for nice windows and dark green..

Review is looking good! Look forward to the purple and yellow ones.

Very nice piece! I want to get them as well after seeing this. Also, love the portrait in the toilet.. haha. Great use of grain wood on the bar counter.

Thank you! Yes, it is too wide and shorter than the modulars. Takes up a lot of space which could have 1.5 modulars in the same area. Inspired by Mugen's detective office corner alternate build.

Modular Apartment Hello! First time posting my MOCs on EB. This is my alternate build for 71006 Simpsons House. No additional parts from other sets were used. This is inspired by the reddish brown apartment in 10218 Pet Shop. If you remove the base, and use a 16 x 32 baseplate, it is a modular build with half the size. Technic pinholes were at the right place too. However, to stay true to the set, I brick built my own base. The 2 x X black bricks given were excellent for this. I just had to coat all 4 sides with tan 1 x X bricks to make the colour match the floor. Things I learnt: 1 x 3 bricks/ plates are extremely useful. There is none of that in this set. I used to hate grey bricks. Now I understand why all the modulars have them. It is to build contrast so your primary colour looks nicer. Small 1 x 1 round plates/ flower designs are extremely useful for decorating things. I used to feel cheated when I get tons of them. There are rarely any here. It's hard to use brighter colours from the set without running out of parts of the same colour. Hence I avoid them as much as possible. Wedge pieces are good to have, but if you throw a bunch of mismatched sizes it doesn't look smooth and nice at all. Time flies when you're MOCing! First night, I was supposed to sleep at 12. Ended up building until 3am. Front: Back: First floor: Here, I ran out of 2 x 2 bricks. The last 2 were used on the long sofa. The rest of it is used as fortification below the floorboard. I never buy classic buckets, I feel they give me as a town builder too many 2 x X bricks, where I use 1 x X the most. Now I find out why they did it. On to the second floor... The stairs were an afterthought. I built the empty 2nd floor before I came back. With my remaining depleting supply of tan plates, I only managed to use so many. I had the option of using 1 x 1 cones for the support, or 1 x 1 cheese slopes, but they were in bring colours hence I forgone it and used the trans round plates instead. Underneath the stairs is supposed to be a toilet (surprise, surprise) that's why there was a door. But I chose to fortify the curving part of the stairs with bricks connecting to the floor. Second floor: Small sofa, a side table and a fan. I built the small sofa with the long sofa and the TV console in the first floor. Inspired by the couch in Big Bang Theory, I attempted it without any bricks with bows as Simpsons House did not have any. Chose to use the 2/3 slope instead. Exposed stud in front can hold your wine glasses or cups! "This book looks good.." The awkward cheese slope on top is meant to be a book holder stand. Initially it was 2 layers tall, but I realised it would be an awkward fit due to ceiling height. Hence it only has 1 layer. I ran out of 1 x 4 tan plates early and refused to use the blue panels given in the original set (Lisa's bookshelf). On to the third floor. Here, my supply of tan plates were extremely depleted, only had about 5 left. It was then, I decided to switch to the precious dark orange and medium dark flesh bricks used as the chimney in the original build. Here is the rooftop garden. "Let's water my plants.." "This one looks like it's flowering" I ended up with quite a number of 1 x 4 tiles, but 1 x 2 and 1 x 1 tiles were almost depleted. 1 x 1 plate and 1 x 2 plate was also nearly depleted. I had no 1 x 4 plates left. It's because of the curved windows, I had to layer 3 full rounds of plates before I could tile it up and move on to the next floor. Overall Simpsons House gave me quite a bit of satisfaction on the main build, but this was one of the stuff I wanted to try out, seeing I now have an abundance of Tan. Only thing is, there isn't a lot of bricks with stud on sides, and no curved bows at all. Slopes were minimal and most were in dark brown. But I appreciate the wide variety of bright coloured parts used as furniture in the main build. Just that I didn't like the sharp contrast, as it reminds me too much of the main build. I never ran out of 1 x 6 or 1 x 4 bricks, and had an abundant supply of 1 x 12 bricks left after.

Y'know, whenever I see the lion head, I ever so slightly want to buy one of those Chima Speedorz Jungle Gates. That lion head justifies enough to buy the whole thing.. haha.

Some people just give a bad name to this forum.. guess you're going to have stubborn, opinionated, trigger happy people wherever you go. Back on the topic, 2016 looks good with prison island. Might just get something cool. Hopefully not like swamp police. Jangbricks gave the whole theme away to charity haha.
