  1. Thanks VBBN and xboxtravis for the insightful comments. Gotta think less and do more :)
  2. Thank you both so much! Watched all the 18 episodes, got so much insight. Nice reviews, Mr Scott! 6 sets at once, wow..
  3. Greetings new friends. I got my first contact with CCBS when I built my detective's office a few days ago. There were some hero fists on the ceiling as decoration, and I found it really interesting. Spent the best of the past few days reading up this sub forum. As a new noob from Reviewers Academy (Haven't earned bronze yet), I am interested in reviewing 2016's Bionicle sets. But first I have a few questions: 1. Most bones I see have a ball on 1 side and a cup on the other. Why aren't there parts with balls on both side, as well as parts with cups on both side? I suppose it would be extremely interesting. Or is it not feasible? 2. I only ever buy System sets. What's a good CCBS set for a beginner to get to explore this theme? Something well rounded- nice techniques and good variety of parts. Preferably 2015 sets. 3. Is there a parts database for CCBS? 4. Is there an idiot's guide to CCBS? I've read a number of threads including all of VBBN's reviews and a few xboxtravis', but I feel it's not enough. 5. Are storylines extremely important to Bionicle? Any videos, or threads to recommend? I've already watched Mask of Light, but that's about it. 6. What do people look out for in CBBS reviews? Saw a few on Youtube. They mostly poked holes about the original design. For example, a guy complained about no shells at the calf for one of the 2015 toas. Another compared the current Toa of Fire with the 2008 one, and said the older one was so much more detailed. There's a negative vibe to it. Something I don't see often in system reviews. Do people mostly look for lore, playability or usefulness of parts? Thank you all so much.
  4. Thank you! I wanted to change the barber sign.. but I don't have the 1x1 clip horizontal and vertical as a pair for other colours.. making it stick out like a sore thumb. Thanks, I liked the colour scheme of the detective's office. Tan, reddish brown and medium dark flesh are some of my favourite colours. Just didn't like the 3 different shades of blue. I'm also wondering how it looks in other colours! Checked my parts, I can easily replace it with olive green! Love to see sand green/dark tan, it's another of my favourites. Actually wanted to make it dark tan, with tan inner area. But I lack enough of it. Barely scraped through the 67 needed for the facade. I cheated with some 2 x 2 bricks haha.
  5. Tan parts. I love them. Best colour LEGO has ever produced. Didn't like the use of multiple colours for the facade, hence I made this. Well, you can do it with parts from simpson house + palace cinema alone, but I chose to scavenge simpson house + many other sets.
  6. 4 tan groove bricks? Nice.. hopefully prices on bricklink start dropping as well. Enjoying your nice photography as always. :)
  7. S13 king gets a lot of love.. I like ocean hq also.
  8. Best is santa's visit, elves treetop hideaway followed by detective's office. Worst is new mf, constraction luke skywalker and speed champion small cars.
  9. Nice lighting. The alien heads are cool..
  10. I love the article, really good analysis. Didn't know they were classified as Architectural, Landmark and now Cityscape.
  11. Thank you, glad you liked it :) If only PAB here had more variety.. haha. Whenever we get good things like 2x2 tan tiles, windows, trans clear parts and small plates, they will almost always be swept up. What is left is mostly 2x4 bricks. It is more cost efficient to buy sets this way, than squeeze big bricks into PAB cups. Thank you! :)
  12. I like this set a lot. When I saw the leaked pictures, I knew I had to get at least two. There's a whole lot to love- 23 dark bluish grey masonry bricks, dark tan, rare reddish brown 1 x 3 tiles, and that wonderful santa. It is a great parts pack- one I could only dream of in the past. Never bought more than 2 of the same sets before, and I have 8 of them. They call it an impulse set- I call it a planned purchase. Here's the MOC. I never used anything other than what was provided, barring the sigfig. The hardest part: Finding enough reddish brown tiles. I used them all. Even the spare 1 x 1. However the 1 x 1 was hidden near the fireplace and near the window, away from view. Part of the good thing of showing MOCs online is hiding things. Ended up with not enough tiles, so put a few plates at the corner and piled up some gifts. The lack of odd numbered regular bricks was also an issue, as I needed to alternate the huge amount of 1 x 2 bricks for a strong build. Hence I placed multiple 1 x 3 whites and 1 x 1 reddish browns in the corners. If you view them from outside it looks like snow has landed. Thanks to the snot window, I had enough bricks saved up for the small ledge indoors.
  13. Congrats appiah. The first step is the hardest, it all goes downhill from here. A cheaper set to get unikitty is Double Decker Couch. Comes with Emmet, President Business, as well as Benny the Spaceman. One of the finest sets.
  14. I like this a lot. Went out today and bought more for this. Thank you very much for the inspiration. Santa chilling with my sigfig.
  15. That's a stroke of cool there.. thanks :)
  16. What piece is that? The sides of the eiffel tower. The one that looks like a long 1 x 1 cheese slope. Thanks in advance!
  17. Very unique and interesting, learnt a lot from it too!
  18. Need more, there is never enough cheese slopes!
  19. They should try Artscience museum from Singapore, or Esplanade.. that would be challenging to pull off..
  20. Can't find 10.. but here's mine! I tried to add photos, but I got "You are not allowed to use that image extension on this community." 8. Solomon blaze from Galaxy Squad (not UA)- Ahh yes.. that blue tone and printed legs. Not to mention the 2 barrel blaster. 7. Johnny Thunder fron Orient Expedition- Classy hat.. he was released when I received my first LEGO set. Never got any Orient Expedition though. I love the hat which is flipped on 1 side. 6. Jesper from Ninjago Airjitzu Temple- I wanted to say Bob from Bob's Kabob, but this was the unlicensed version. I like his oily clothes, it has a smiley face print. Not to mention the printed apron. That hat is really nice, it's in my favourite tan too. 5. Antimatter from UA- I didn't get any UA gets, but was blown away by this one. The helmet mould is really outstanding. The eyes really show. One of those mysterious bad guys. 4. Detective Ace Brickman from Modular Detective's Office- I love his suit torso print. It's not overdone, and very classy. Add the tan pants and wide brim hat, he looks good but doesn't detract too much from the modular. 3. Had to add a CMF, hot dog guy! I love a lot about him. I have a fetish with lightly designed minifig parts. Even better if there are no prints at all. They look classy. Plain tan torso. Sky blue legs. That attractive smiley face. The hot dog mould is a plus. You can take away the hot dog cover and he will look good alone. 2. Ice Planet Astronaut- You, my friend! I like your head print. I like the default face found in modulars and really old LEGO sets. But I like this more, because it has white hair swept to the side. Blue hands, such rarity. White helmet. Hips and legs of different colour. Somehow I have this is my parts bin. I don't remember owning any Ice Planet sets when I was young.. must have been one of those Freestyle sets.. 1. Santa from Santa's Workshop- My all time favourite. It had roots with a MMORPG I used to play. It was the reason for my nick. Nothing related to LEGO. I like the hat mould. So much better than the pre 2013 santas with the bandit hat.
  21. Came in expecting lots of CMF.. beautiful surprise. Nice work on the thread, you must have been a very long time collector. :) My sigfig has the same head as yours!
  22. Out of original 3, I ony enjoy GG. In fact, all of the current ones are great. No reason to buy backwards..
  23. Bird of prey> Check out Mugen on brickshelf. He has alt builds for the newer modulars from pet shop onwards. Lots of photos. You can reverse engineer them yourself, as no instructions are given. I like his take on corner DO. That horizon express though.. not too nice.
  24. You can probably afford GG, judging the fact that you can afford modulars and hence reading this thread. But it is not justified to spend so much on it.. wise choice. Modulars are great. If you're a LEGO fan, Id recommend just one. PR. Will teach you a lot. Mech mocers get blue curves. Town builders get olive green bricks and brown windows. Space fans get the grey baseplate and grey erling bricks. Minifig fans get a lot of knives and accessories.
  25. I like PR more. I'm a simple man. I see food, I like. I see olive green in quantity, I buy. PC's interior is a little bare. First floor isn't tiled, or plated over. Red baseplate is exposed. But there's a multitude of interesting techniques. The sign is quite fun to build up, thanks to the word CINEMA. Attaching it would be fun too. PR on the other hand has a ton of greebles on the chimney. Nice minibuilds for the kitchen. Restaurant floor is a bit repetitive. But I like the curtain build and the wine cabinet. It will be interesting to learn these new techniques.
