Kaliphlin Guild: Homepage, Sign-up and Discussion
gedren_y replied to Si-MOCs's topic in Guilds of Historica
I know how you feel Kayne, I had something similar happen to me a few years ago. I was with Bank of America at that time, and was just checking my account online, when I noticed a suspicious nearly $50 charge. I called my bank's fraud report number, read off the item, and was told that the money would be refunded within two days. I had to go in to a close branch the next business day (I reported the fraud on a Saturday) to get a temporary debit card, and the company would mail me a new card in a few weeks. I have since left Bank of America for a new bank (in response to rate hikes) that has now merged with another bank. In response to the question about Challenge VI, I may not actually to enter. Visiting Herbologists has taken up more time than I anticipated. -
A Call to Arms: The Battle of Queenscross

Is it just me, or has Hugh somehow acquired a tan? Well, travel across a desert will do that to you. Hopefully his accent isn't too much for the others to understand. His soldiers, though, will likely not be understood by the rest of the forces.- 123 replies

Nocturnus Guild: Homepage, Sign-up and Discussion
gedren_y replied to I Scream Clone's topic in Guilds of Historica
We in the Nestlands of course mean by 'big fight' the toppling of Revolword. Neord intends to turn many of those Hand of Corruption creatures into rotten meat with his fleshblade. There is now a small band of Nocturnians in Cobalt Vale. Two of their number are werewolves who have been trading mountain cat carcasses for goods. The MInister of External Affairs enjoyed his slow cooked northern mountain cat. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 10 Discussion
gedren_y replied to CM4Sci's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I have been regularly checking the minifigure section of the US version of shop.lego.com for at least the listing for Series 10. Sometimes they list up-coming items for sale with their available shipping date listed, which is usually the advertised in-store availability date. For weeks Series 9 was listed as sold out, so I was hoping to see Series 10 listed. Today I find Series 9 is back in stock. I should note that the page still also lists Series 8, even though they have been sold out and officially retired for months.- 1,076 replies

Nocturnus Guild: Homepage, Sign-up and Discussion

I think Dr. Rod would enjoy the company of the fleshmage Neord Bloodmane. He is being considered for the possition of Nestlands Emissary to the Nocturnus Court, whatever it turns out to be after the big fight. -

I get where you are coming from Ska. Though my current project, Visiting Herbologists, isn't on the scale of yours, it is eating into my time and focus for any Challenge VI builds. I may do something to have my characters engaged in the fight, but not actually enter the contest. Visiting Herbologists is 48x64, and I am currently working on the landscape. I have come up with a few ways to make some interesting plants, but need to build the land up to make them work. I hope I have enough cheese slopes to make this vision in my head work. -

The Nestlands Clans of the Armored Eagle Goddess emmigrated from what is today Mitgardia to their current location 2200 years ago to escape religious persecution. Some still believe that the lands they inhabit now is where their Goddess will return in the flesh. -
A Call to Arms: The Battle of Queenscross
gedren_y replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
It's okay of you kill these characters and have them stripped of their armor and weapons, just have them take out as many of the enemy as plausable first. The Guin Nol High Guard wear white under their blue armor, and Capain Hugh Hos' hair is grey. The captain's head is from the Fire Nation Soldier (http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?M=ava004&in=S), so he can be lying face down if you don't have him.- 123 replies

Steampunk qualifies as Sci-Fi. All in all, a wonderful MOC. -

I have no compunction when it comes to removing arms. Most of my unused torsos have no arms. I keep the arms in a separate container. Soon I will be taking apart the CMF 9 Policeman for his dark blue arms and legs. -

Word from Aturl Prndrn, Nestlands Minister of External Affairs, The High Guard of Guin Nol have been spoiling for a fight. Captain Hugh Hos and three of this most trusted men (all that can be spared in these troubling times) are on their way. They are excellent pike-men and quite accurate with a crossbow. Enclosed are the most accurate depictions of the four that could be found. High Guard 1 by gedren_y, on Flickr High Guard 2 by gedren_y, on Flickr- 123 replies

Kaliphlin Guild: Homepage, Sign-up and Discussion
gedren_y replied to Si-MOCs's topic in Guilds of Historica
I've decided to share with you an idea I had for Chal. VI that may add another dimension to the story. I plan on using the body of Iron Man from Loki's Cosmic Cube Escape with some Brickforge. I think I'll have Victor's brother Kaïn find the ancient armor (and the golem within). It will be a remnant of the time when the Lord of Kaliphlin ruled the land from Cedrica. -

IRL has sort of gotten in the way of Visiting Herbologists. I have storyline fix for the delay, though. I also am just about to go pick up my latest Brickforge order. Yay to package tracking. This order should make Visiting Herbologists even more interesting. -
Petition for the return of Angeli to Historica
gedren_y replied to robuko's topic in Guilds of Historica
I too wish for Angeli's return, and if he does, it should be with heavy sanctions. That business with using his then girlfriend's account, while his contest was still going on seemed permissable, but after that it began to be a bit rediculous. Starting him over as a new member may help. Add gedren_y to the petition. -
Guilds of Historica Introduction/General Discussion Thread

I build mostly fantasy/historical, with a little sideline into sci-fi, so I'm not going anywhere. Much of Ska's ideas I can get behind. To shore up Nocturnus, we should allow people to change guild alleagance. Anyone who does, would be leaving behind their 'gold' with their old guild, and anything beyond that point would go to their new guild. I think that Varlyrio should be opened up for joining, but it can wait. That should be the limit for the amount of joinable guilds. Any new lands, if we go that route, get claimed by existing guilds by way of MOCs showing sig characters exploring. We could have inter-guild land grab competition challenges, with voting, to determine what guild gets what land. I have a story line for the Nestlands Clans of the Armored Eagle Goddess about their Goddess' return that I want to persue, but can see where that may step on plenty of toes. I guess I could leave that in the hands of whoever takes over the reigns of GoH. I don't want that kind of responsibility. If this gets persued, the Goddess could be a major common enemy for some challenge later on. ZC seems like a good fit as a new leader in some capacity. Any prizes have to be approved by EB staff, which for GoH is predominately ISC, but if he steps down we will need someone with that kind of EB authority. I hope to one day offer handmade custom capes for a contest, but am right now still trying to get my paterns finalized. I see GoH much like the Forgotten Realms books. Some things we have, others we don't. We have black oil, but not the manufacturing base for refining it into gasoline, nor the internal combustion engine. Ships we already have, but the effective fire-arms we shouldn't. We shouldn't exclude piracy, but it should be kept to a minimum. -
Guilds of Historica Introduction/General Discussion Thread

I don't think you should have to be able to build a full minifig scale ship, but the idea of granting charters seems reasonable. For a scene of the ship either leaving, at sea, or landing; micro-scale is always an option. There are several of our illustrious builders that have done this to great effect. There could be a contest to design the uncharted land mass(es). Something like the fifth guild contest, but without an established people or government. Maybe a few scenes depicting the range of the land, flora, and fauna of the place. Whoever is leading GoH at that time would have their scoring plus a vote to determine the winner(s). On the geology of Historica: I have always thought that most of the Siccus Badlands is in a sub-tropical zone, and that the southern edge of the continent dips into the tropical zone. Also that most of Mitgardia is at a higher elevation, giving them fjords and accounting for all the snow. Nocturnus was originally concieved to be very swampy, but many of the builders depicted volcanic activity, so I see it as sitting over several geothermal hot spots (or possibly a super-volcano caldera like at Yellowstone). Avalonia is very much like the old growth forests and farm lands of Europe. I need to give Varlyrio's geology some more thought. I'll get back to you on that. -

The truth is the Kaliphlin haven't strayed from the timeframe. The Kaliphlin is loosely based on the Middle Eastern desert and moutain peoples. During the late Roman and early Medieval periods, they had advancements in science and mathematics. The number system used by much of the world is originally Arabic. They had a concept of zero long before central and western Europeans, and that concept is neccessary for the higher orders of mathematics. There is even evidence that they had the alkaline battery in ancient times. -

There are a Lego Imagination Center and a Lego Store in Orlando, there is Legoland Florida in Winter Haven (southwest of Orlando), and a Lego Store in the Sunrise area around Ft. Lauderdale. It is prohibitively exspensive for me to go to any of these places, as I live only 12 miles southwest of Gainesville. It has been over eight years since I've even been in Orlando. Lego outside of large department stores in Florida is mainly focused on the tourist trade. Back to GOH, Visiting Herbologists is coming along. It should be finished next week. I don't know when photography will happen, though, as I don't have the camera right now. Hopefully I will be able to purchase a good camera in April. -

Actually, Cara, that is a triquatra. It is a symbol of the Tripple Goddess. A knotwork symbol might be what you want, though. There are dozens of variations on that theme. There are Celtic and Norse examples on several online retailers. These sites have good images that designs could be borrowed from. http://www.museumreplicas.com/ http://www.gaelsong.com/ -

With what CBB said, I did builds with some Mpya Stedor characters (as well as two Mitgardians and a fake Berigoran) and hopefully DaMaximus will have Wahl and Lohp in one of his next builds. Our characters doing more traveling should be the focus immediately post Chal. 6, since most will have gone far from their homes for the Revolword War. With all this travel, new things should be discovered. GOH should enter into a wider age of enlightenment. Something like Europe in it's early exploration age, before gunpowder was widely used. I don't think we should fast forward the timeline in GOH. We Kaliphlin have a university, so maybe higher learning has spread, and therefore some technology has developed. It need not be weapons technology. Remember, we still have magic and fantasy characters, so the use of gunpowder may be limited to excavations and quarries. There should be a period of rebuilding after the Revolword War, anyway. "From its ashes, the Pheonix rises again." -
Impressive and inspired. Though Calvin's sled never had sides and Hobbes never joined Calvin in the Spaceman Spiff imaginings. Hobbes hiding in the first scene is consistant with his character, though. The landscape you created is also consistant with Watterson's drawings.

I live in the middle of Florida, but it's not ecconomically feesable for me to go to a Lego store. And we have a Legoland! -
I can see some interesting things coming out of this. I still see back episodes of The Simpsons from the early 90's here sometimes. I would hope for a three-eyed fish. I wonder how they would do Maggie. There are such a range of characters, but Mr. Burns and grounds-keeper Willie would be some definite wants. This would be contingent on standard heads with attatchment for various head shape differences. Do-able, as we've seen with CMF 10 pics. Consider that the drinking in The Simpsons is intended to be seen as bad. Moe's has been mostly shown as a dangerous place (one episode where Marge re-vamps Moe's). Duffman probably won't be made though.

European Custom minifig-compatible toy makers

The only European company I know if is http://www.thelittlearmsshop.com/store/ based in the Netherlands, but they produce Star Wars based weapons and carry minifigs (some non-Star Wars). -
