Wow. This certainly came as a surprise, but a welcome one. Thanks for your kind words nerdsforprez and I am intrigued by your idea about the 5l liftarm. So, by removing it, it leaves the 14t gear connected directly to the motor unbraced on one side, right? And if so, have you had any issues with it coming out on its own or grinding at all? Your color scheme looks stellar and your rim/tire combination gives it a closer resemblance to competition RC crawlers. The BuWizz appears to be an improvement over the SBrick and 8878 battery box combo, I may have to invest in one. Thank you for giving credit where it was due. And jeez, those camera angles and setting in the video P.S. I am currently working on another crawler of a slightly smaller size with performance that rivals that of my Chilli Crawler. Hopefully, the video will be out sometime over the summer.

Um, haha, well, uh, no. I did not set any sort of limit to prevent oversteer. I rely upon my primal instinct to guess when I should stop turning. Sorry! Besides that, however, I am very impressed by your build. That body makes a great addition!

Haha thanks, and I now realize that I could have just looked at where it said UK, oh well!

Thanks, Not to be weird, but do you happen to live in Germany? as youtube told me when posting it that it would not be available in Germany due to copyright issues. Sorry for the issues with the video, hopefully it will be resolved and become available later.

Hey Guys, Here is a video of my Chilli Crawler at Carl Schurz Park in New York City. It's been a slow month, but I got another video out, so here it is and enjoy! P.S. For future reference, is it "OK" for me to bump one of my relatively old threads?

Thanks for the great review, I am now 100% convinced that I simply require this set and it's fantastic tires. Even the rims come in a great color, can't wait to see the pure Lego (excluding SBrick and BuWizz) off-roaders that will result from these!

Wow, SBrick certainly has some good competition now! I would say that this single, rather small and light BuWizz is very comparable to the larger and much heavier Lego RC unit. I would love to see a race between the two.

[WIP] Mini Crawler
PunkTacoNYC replied to Lego2016Lego's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Nice looking, The steering looks nice and rigid. I would consider moving up to the 62.4mm D. x 20mm tires (from the Mercedes Arocs set) as it will not only have better ground clearance, but it will also have better performance. -
I think its cool and definitely unique with its custom, pro-rc parts. I would not, however, say that this breaks the previous speed record for Legos as it's performance relies 95% upon non-Lego batteries, motors, escs, etc. For example, I found this a while back that was super cool, easily breaking all other (at the time) Lego speed records with its ~25 MPH limit. Although it did not actually break any Lego speed records as it had a modified M motor and non-lego battery, there is certainly something to be said for the performance of it, pure lego or not.Keep 'em coming! pt

Nice, I like the body. Buuuut, I will say that the 42000 front steered hubs IMO have a lot of friction, with a simple axle-hole setup working better.

This^^ Although I do use third party tires and SBricks and all, I do agree that Legos will never create the best-performing crawlers and that trying to make the best crawler possible entirely out of Lego is a respectable challenge. Also, the new Xerion tires look pretty darn good - possibly even comparable in performance to third party tires - but who knows what those tires will be like? I certainly don't! ANYWAY I think your crawler is great, midengineadict. The flex is awesome and I feel that it can be improved if you do not use the ball joint, 6L link setup. I do, however, think it is good how it is.

Axle Collection Thread
PunkTacoNYC replied to efferman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Here are the axles from my Chili Crawler Front axle: It features a geared down L motor for steering and an XL motor for propulsion (geared down 1:5.001). I mounted the motor parallel to the axle so that there would not only be more ground clearance, but there is absolutely no gear slippage. In fact, there is more slippage in the steering than the drive! (But still very little ). LXF Rear Axle: It features unimog portal hubs WITH mounting axles for extra rigidity. Note: because there are 3 pins on the portal hubs and 4 possible mounting positions - rotations - for the axles, you must line the axles and pins up the with wheels, exactly). It is driven by a XL motor and is geared down 1:5.001. LXF Enjoy -
[MOC] Jeep Wrangler
PunkTacoNYC replied to legomarat's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I have been seeing LOTS of jeep wranglers lately and this once looks, by far, the best. I especially like the blue version with the custom tires. Did the two L motors provide enough torque for the body - of which I presume is rather heavy due to the studded build.- 21 replies

Worst mocs, hmmm...... Hey, I've got lots of those! Here is my modified 8110 Unimog. It was my first "moc" and it featured an XL motor for drive and - hehe - an XL for steering. And wait, the best part is that the XL was geared using two 40 tooth gears and most of the torque from the XL was lost in the flimsy axles running down the rear of the cabin. Oh me....

I have tried, in many different ways, to replace my super geared down (worm gear to 8 tooth, 12 tooth to 40 tooth) M motor with a servo in a setup like this. It seems simpler and more efficient but the problem is that the PF servo requires energy - a LOT of energy - to keep in its current position. So too often when I was turning and driving at the same time, the Servo would hog up all the power and, on top of the two XLs at full capacity, the bb would shut down. I'll try to use the servo soon but for now, geared down M and L motors on a gear rack are your best bet as they are rigid and (with a worm gear) lock in place when not turning.

OK, Here is the LXF for my Lego Chilli Crawler: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/PunkTacoNYC/LegoChilliCrawler/punktaconyc_lego_chili_crawler_lxf.lxf I'm not entirely sure if I linked the file correctly, so let me know if there are any problems with it. Get ready for a whole lot of confusing language! Notes about the file: -The tires and rims are not included. I used the black 9398 rims with 1.9" RC4WD Super Swamper 3rd party tires. -The cab is not connected to the axles with the links nor the shocks. -The shocks in the LXF file are yellow whereas the shocks used in the actual model are completely black as they are the 11L soft shocks. -There is no SBrick in the LXF, it would be mounted on the two black pins coming out of the interior of the rear of the cabin. (Its REALLY hard to get the SBrick on these pieces, good luck) -The LiPo battery is also not in the LXF, it gets placed somewhat diagonally in the front of the cab. See pictures for reference. -The red bar going vertically through the center of the cab is what keeps the LiPo battery in place, use the 3L pins at the top of the cabin to hold the bar in place and therefore lock the battery within the chassis. -The silver 88m hoses are not placed on the model but rather within the file. See pictures to for reference. -The black 5L beam with the black 2L beam in the center goes on top of the two black pieces that connect to the two upper links of the front axle. If there are oddly colored pieces or moments when building that you say, "Why did he use this piece rather than this one?", the answer will usually be because of limitations of Lego Digital Designer and the incomplete array of technic pieces the software has. Most of it is self-explanatory. Let me know of any comments or suggestions on the crawler, I am open to new ideas! Thank you for your patience and enjoy!

[MOC] 4x4 Super Crawler V2
PunkTacoNYC replied to JJ2's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Nice, I really like those tires! Is that an L motor I see for propulsion...? The long axles must make it incredibly stable. Can't wait for more footage! -
Lets say...definitely by the end of monday, maybe even earlier.
