  1. Ok, after some re-touches, I think I should post the changes, especially due to the extremely improved performance (see vid)
  2. An update: I completely re-done the transmission gearing inside. The previous iteration was chewing through 8-tooth gears easily and a lot of stuff was making noise inside - all because of huge XL motor's torque. Replaced an array of 5 (!) 8-tooths with 3 18-tooth gears (leftmost is there only to push the middle one towards the rightmost as a safety precaution). and changed the ratio from 2:1 to 3:1, so it goes 50% faster. Also, goes pretty fast in reverse. The second major change was required, however: with greater speed comes greater responsibility, so I added extra reinforced bumper in the front. The third change was turning the battery box upside down (the cable's plug was right in the spot of the "security" 18-tooth gear) and thus, mounting a permanent switch extension in place of the removable rod. No point in posting photos, I guess, but I'm really satisfied with the outcome.
  3. The only thing I can do is a LDD file, but it'll take a while to make, so I can't guarantee I will do it. Besides, using Power Functions in LDD can be problematic...
  4. Thanks, guys! Fixed the sliding door so they are larger and look more plausible. Thought it was impossible due to the structure of the van, but I found a way to reinforce it. And here's a vid of it in action. Stunning, really
  5. Here's a little 42030 C-model (+ extra wheels, ONLY added extra parts). It was meant to be just a remedy for boredom while ill, so I build "just so", whatever comes to my mind - just wanted it to be remote controlled. But I quite like the result: a flamboyant van perfect for just cruising around and scaring people. It performs well enough for a heavy, single XL motor-powered model. The gearing somehow makes it slower on reverse which is a fringe benefit, realism-wise. Steering is quite good, turn radius is tight. 35 studs long body + 5 studs long "wings". Functions and feats: â–º RC driving and steering â–º sliding side doors on the right side, opening doors and fuel cap â–º supercharger's scoop in the rear tilts up to reveal the gap leading towards the on/off switch that is activated by rod that can be kept on a special pivoted rack inside the van (you can use the "flag" poles as well, but that's just barbaric) â–º non-functional decorated interior, including seats, steering wheel, gear shifter and handbrake â–º details such as supercharger scoop, roof-mounted horns, floodlights and break lights, rear view mirrors, exhaust pipes, fenders, flags, radio antenna, floored interior
  6. The thing is I don't have bedroom. My whole apartment is just one big room with kitchen corner and sleeping mezzanine. Only a small bathroom is a separate room with its doors My cat chews only thin cables like chargers or headphone cables. And not all of them. All the electrical cables are too stiff and thick for him to take an interest. Vicks is surprisingly not sticky at all. The day after the test there is virtually no trace of it on the rotor blades' tips. I tested it on a collectable figure I have displayed on my desk and never again it was chewed by the cat after the process. As for the "repellent", it's ususally a spray and my apartment is too small for spraying stuff like that without risk of it getting on furniture - don't want to further confine the animals with creating a repulsive zones. I need a "on point" solution While we're at it, sometimes I think my cat has wings.
  7. Disclaimer: I looked for a topic like that but haven't found any, so I figured I'll start a new one. How do you manage to secure your LEGO collection from pets? Of course, having a display cabinet is an obvious solution, but I'm talking about cases (no pun intended) when having a big glassy bulky furniture thing is a no-no. Real life example is my case: I live in a very small apartment and even with a full-glass cabinet it'll get really crammed, especially due to the fact I need it to display huge stuff, I'm talking 45+ studs MOCs and sets. I have two cats. One of them is docile and calm, but the other one is a really roguish piece of work. And he loves to chew. He chews book covers, he chews phone charger cables... he also chewed the protruding elements of my builds and sets and seemingly enjoys the rubberized tips of rotor blades of my 42052 Heavy Lift Helicopter. The damage to the rubber is visible enough to make me concerned (and want to replace the blades) . Even when the chopper was on a seemingly unreachable shelf, he still managed to take a chomp or two. So I'm trying the chemical warfare now, as it seems most obvious and easy: I rubbed Vicks VapoRub ointment into the rubber segments of the blades. Don't know how long the scent will remain, but as for now, the cat moves away in disgust. Fringe benefits are that the chopper generates fresh scent of eucalyptus, mint and camphor when the rotors spin and those tips, oiled a bit with all those Vicks' ingredients, look quite nice and shiny. I just hope it won't damage the parts. I want to learn and exchange other methods of securing the parts. The least invasive the better.
  8. Ugh, after HOURS of research I located the spots for those three pins. Each were painfully obvious and probably because of that it took so much time Now I can admire this beast fully.
  9. Coming in late, I finally found this set at a decent price and indulged myself (this year I'm 30 - I can do anything I want! ). It took me 5 hours to build this monster of a set. It's the largest Technic contraption I ever had and it's mighty impressive. This set was a "must" for me from the day one (when indispensible Sariel showcased it before its premiere). I got to admit, it was worth every penny. I just need to replace the string like Bering. One day perhaps I'll also try to include a control yoke for the rudders and elevator. One thing that bothers me: the set is supposed to have 4 spare black pins. I got 7 left. Locating the missed spot will be a big pain
  10. Thanks! It's easy when you build C-Models of smaller sets Did the same with 42046's C-Model (henceforth it has those six "spikes" on both sides of the front segment):
  11. 42059 alternative model. Uses all parts from the set (exl. spares). No functions whatsoever except for inherited pull-back motor and quite pleasing looks. It showcases the "40 years" part nicely. It's a rear-engined landspeed hot rod, inspired mostly by "belly tanks". Looks better with lower profile front tires borrowed from 42046 Getaway Racer (last pic). Bonus: can be used with minifigs! LXF FILE - I might have missed something. The model SHOULD USE ALL PARTS from the by the A-model. If there are any leftovers, please inform me. The pink parts obviously represent the pull-back motor. The bit that sticks out in the front should of course be rotated as in the pictures - LDD won't allow you to do so. With better tire setup:
  12. I like the 42059 set quite a bit, despite it having zero functions aside from the pull-back propulsion. The colour is great, the finished vehicle looks quite nice (not at all angles, however) and it jumps pretty nice on the ramp. But above all, the "pull-backs" are cool material for experiments. They are similar to little Creator models, being like a task: build a nice vehicle using so little parts and make it work. I got it as a present from my GF and let it sit on a shelf for one week. Then I rebuilt it into a "belly tank" type of racer which, in my opinion, looks even better than original model. MOC-wise, it's a decent set, in my opinion.
  13. For me, it's either B-Model out of the box or a C-Model/parts set. The A-model seems a bit like a "we need just one more small set for the next year's line, gents!" type of design.
  14. Oh, I forgot Rainbow. How could I forget Rainbow? But here's my recommendation, the album I mentioned earlier - "Egypt" by Egypt. A bit of doom, a bit of stoner, a bit of psychedelic. Gotta love it.
  15. I got all the "visual guides" and not buying this one wasn't an option. And it's, by far, the best done one. I really hope the awesome characters from Jedha described there (don't have the book with me, so I don't remember the pages) like Tam Posla the hellbent law-bringer, Gavra Ubrento the grease-smeared mechanic, Woan Barso the paranoid pilot and K-OHN the philanthropist droid will make their way into other media. I hope they all left the planet on Woan's ship ;) They are simply a perfect opportunity for a nice team story in the mood of an old "Death Star" novel.
  16. For me, most of the metal music is just Black Sabbath re-though. As for now, my favorite metal bands are Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Motorhead and Clutch. I also like some more niche stuff, as long as it's a mix of progressive, psychedelic and doom (2009 album "Egypt" by band Egypt is precisely what I'm thinking about). I hate inaudible growl sounding like pig squealing.
  17. Constraction Figures NEED red characters. And I'm a fan of fully masked, tough and menacing characters working on the fringe - pirates, smugglers and other criminals. Thus, I'd love Sidon Ithano and Gauvian Death Gang Enforcer Constraction Figures. References: Sidon on the left, Gauvian on the right:
  18. Agreed, but K-2SO (again) beats the Trooper in that aspect. The tiny greebling in the "jaw" area is just uncanny. I feel the frigure is staring at me and evaluating my every move. As the original K-2SO would, I suppose.
  19. The fig collapsed and the rough edge of the back plate punctured the pauldron a bit. The damage is not that obvious, but it still bugs my OCD. I looked it up on the Replacement Parts and it says it's not currently available, but they'll notice me. I have to unearth the instruction booklet, though, as they need a 7-digit number. Oh, by the way, the cylinder on the "posterior" part of the Trooper you've been wondering about is a standard imperial issue Imperial detonator.
  20. I recently bough this set. I generally agree with most of what you said. However, for one, I don't mind the long legs (some pre-film materials claimed the Empire recruited tall, flexible men for Death Troopers AFAIK). His height is OK, if he's 1.9m, he matches 2.15m height of his line counterpart, the K-250, which, of course, is better of the two, but they kinda compliment each other, especially posed dramatically while in fight: The Trooper was my first Buildable Figure, so I have no problem with the fact the building process is generic to BF's. Besides, my second BF, K-2SO, was sophisticated build, so it balanced just right. The Death Trooper looks good on the display, though, the posability is still better than that of a regular Star Wars action figures which are uglier, smaller and costed roughly the same (bought both Lego SWBF's for a lowered price)! It's looking tough, menacing and cool. That's what I wanted. My biggest problem with the Death Trooper BF is the pauldron. I don't mind the ammo pouches banging against the chest plate, but the quality of the vinyl/celluloid-like material used to make it is subpar - after one figure collapse it became damaged on the back side, above the shoulder. Don't know if there is a way to fix it, but it really bums me. I'm certain it'll be tough to get the pauldron second hand, I don't think too many geezers would buy this set for parts and would want to sell the SW-themed gimmicks. Henceforth, I'm tempted to report "broken" part to Lego, but I'm not quite sure if it qualifies.
  21. Just bought and built K-2SO (75120) and Death Trooper (75121) buildable figures. They are great. The Trooper's not the most innovative stuff, but looks really menacing. K-2SO is just great and had some nice nuances during the build, lots of sub-assembly within all stages of the build. Love both sets.
  22. Just got the Unkar's Thug and thus my 75099 Rey's Speeder is complete. Love this minifig's head - such a great base for custom SW mercenary/bounty hunter/warrior minifigs. Would work with SF/post-apo etc too. WIll certainly buy more of those when I'll find them cheap.
  23. Just picked up 75099 Rey's Speeder for 42% of MSRP, used. Unkar's Thug minifig and his prybar is missing, but I'll be picking up the equipped fig in a few days from another guy. Neat little set, but first impression is it's kinda overpriced for the size. But cool greebles and nice details remove this impression a bit after some time. Cool opening mechanism, too. I like it.
  24. It's the confidence that you have so many, perhaps? it happens in my case, while building C-Models: "Hey, I have so many of them", I keep saying to myself, "I shall use three instead of two, the model will be more robust". And then, BAM!, no pins for finishing touches and I need to dig to get those "robusting" pins out
  25. That's when Rebrickable account comes in handy. Once you submit all the sets you have, it'll give you a nice overview. For example, I have 1013 black pins w/ friction and 507 long blue pins w/ friction. Overall, I have 2304 pins which makes about 1/4 of my whole parts pool
