  1. Wait what? Where did you hear this? That would be great if it's true. If Space is truly coming back, that doesn't mean that Castle won't come back next year as well. In 2007 and 2013, new Castle and Space sub themes were released at the same time.
  2. Would you mind posting this in the Nexo thread? It's nice to see confirmation that Nexo wasn't a flop. I don't know about Chima, but it was confirmed a while back that NK Season 5 was cancelled. The only wave we got this year was missing a lot of key characters, iincluding the main villain, so it's pretty fair to assume that there were supposed to be at least a couple more sets.
  3. That's pretty neat. For a second there I thought that the pieces were floating in front of each other
  4. To be perfectly honest, that would only make it more confusing IMO. Ninjago existed in one direct line until 2016, when Day of the Departed revisited some of the old villains. Last year, it took another turn with the Ninjago Movie universe, which isn't really related to the main story. However, some of the Ninjago Movie elements crossed over into the main story, but not all, making it more confusing. If you're a young kid, you're probably lost in all of this and you only care about whether or not the sets are cool. If you see multiple different stories going on at the same time next year, you'll pick and chose what you want. Not keeping a consistent storyline would probably hurt the brand, but I would say that the current story is probably at the end of its tether. Lego can't just reboot the whole thing without losing the interest of their core audience, so their challenge is to keep Ninjago fresh with new villains and plot developments while simultaneously making the story easy to follow. It'll be interesting to see how they go about it, but in hindsight they probably should have started this process a couple of years ago and cut out the movie entirely.
  5. Indeed, that's a great Moc. It's interesting to see all the different takes on Nexo and its building styles that are out there.
  6. That doesn't really sound like a great idea. The "Day of the Departed" wave was a good way to incorporate old characters into the storyline, but rehashing two full seasons of sets? That reminds me of when Lego re-released the Toy Shop a few years ago; sure, there were changes, but not enough to make people who bought the first one buy the new one.
  7. This is an interesting idea. I never really even thought about how different pieces of castles could be mashed up and still look good. Well done @scroggle
  8. Nice. How is the front end of the banana connected to the middle part?
  9. For sure. Those new legs are incredibly useful, I always found the regular short legs to be limiting and impractical. I think that these legs could turn up in a future Castle theme, but probably not next year because if we get anything it'll be human vs. human.
  10. So if you had to guess based on what Mark said, would it be realistic to expect HP to run another year or two with sets from films 4-7 and then be discontinued?
  11. It doesn't specifically say that, but that's definitely reasonable to expect, especially since there are currently only sets for movies 1-3. This license will probably end up being like LOTR, where the original series gets two or three years of sets and then fades out, while the ongoing series (Fantastic Beasts) will get a new wave for each film as it comes out. HP seems to be more popular than LOTR, so I think that it will get a total of three years as opposed to LOTR's two.
  12. Yeah, I do see the decline in "Lego" as well, but it's not as drastic and seems to be improving. Ninjago is declining at a steadier rate, and I think the movie being a failed attempt to extend the life of the theme will impact it negatively later on. This year's sets were designed before the movie underperformed, so expect next year to scale it back a bit in response. I've noticed how Lego tends to avoid bleeding out themes for as long as they possibly can, and although Ninjago is still pretty successful I would say that the writing's on the wall. It was declared evergreen in 2015, but that was more than three years ago and if it lasts a few years longer, a six year run after Lego said that would fit the description of "evergreen". It won't end in the near future, but three years from now is a different story.
  13. Thanks so much for these stats! I appreciate the time and effort that you've put into this. I would imagine that this is because most people have a tendency to rate sets a little higher than their gut is telling them in order to be less controversial
  14. https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=2010-01-01 2018-06-20&q=ninjago This is just Ninjago by itself. What I gather from this is that it has been declining in interest ever since the wildly popular "Ghosts" wave. As you can see, the marketing push and the sheer number of sets associated with TLNM bumped it up again, but the film did not do well as interest has actually dipped to lower levels than it was before, despite two full new storylines since then. It's pretty clear than TLNM is the anomaly in this chart. Ninjago is currently evergreen, that's absolutely true. However, I would imagine that Lego thought the same about Bionicle for a long time. Ninjago will more than likely end someday, I would imagine that they would wrap it up after 2020 or so to make it an even ten years.
  15. Nice catch. At the very least the head will be usable. Previously the only head that was really close was Moltor's and it was weird to have the main villain of the series have the same head as one of his henchmen.
  16. This is an incredible MOC, easily the best EB has taken to Chicago. Every single realm is packed with detail and the concept itself invokes a lot of imagination and creativity. My personal favorite builds were from @Gideon for the realistic temple architecture (I'm a sucker for European history) @MKJoshA for the rock golem and @Captain Nemo for the outside-the-box and abstract construction used in the Water Realm. Congratulations to everyone involved
  17. Picked up 7037 Tower Raid a couple days ago from Bricklink. It's a great set and is surprisingly underrated amongst the Castle '07 sets.
  18. And will do so before others can do the same.
  19. Since the show has been cancelled, would the people who were building Tech Vampire castle MOCs be kind enough to share them here? There were some pretty interesting ideas going around a couple months ago and I know at least two or three people were building castles in LDD.
  20. What I said came out as kind of a ramble but that's what I was getting at. There are currently no "Castle" torsos being produced, as well as no heraldries. TLM2 is not themed around Castle, so I don't see TLG going out of their way to make an entirely new Castle faction specifically for one set (at most) from the movie. However, the lack of Castle stuff in the movie makes it more likely that a regular Castle theme is coming in the summer. To be honest, I think that this is Elves' last year. The fantasy elements might overlap with Harry Potter, and I'm getting "final battle" vibes from the most recent wave. Overwatch doesn't seem to be a huge theme or anything, it'll probably be about the size of Minecraft and also has no overlap with Castle. If we're getting Castle next year, I suspect it'll be a traditional theme in the same vein as Kingdoms, with about five or six sets, and will incorporate new parts and building techniques.
  21. This is possibly a good thing. The lack of any kind of Castle elements in the Movie sets mean that it's possible that a new Castle theme is headed our way next summer. Think about it, Lego probably wouldn't produce knights with all-new heraldries just for a set or two and then release a full Castle theme that summer.
  22. Looks like the old "accessories" line is coming back as "Lego Xtra". Here's a link for some City packs: https://brickset.com/article/36426/new-polybags-now-in-brand-stores#comments Due to the fact that there isn't a City logo on the packaging, could we possibly see sets like the for other themes? I'd love a historical poly of some kind.
  23. Welcome!
  24. Wonderful details throughout! I like the design of the buildings a lot. The whole build is very cohesive and there's detail in every corner. Great work.
  25. There are some good points made in the OP, but Lego doesn't have to make a traditional theme mashed up with Sci-Fi. Obviously both Ninjago and Nexo are exactly that, but Chima exists as well (I know that everyone would like to pretend that it didn't ). I'm cautiously optimistic about the next theme, and I hope that Lego puts out more than one new, non-Licensed themes next year.
