Mark Stafford is @Nabii on here. He's really the only Lego designer who posts on EB. Over in the Overwatch thread he said that Blizzard and Lego have plans for the future, but clarified that he was only talking about Overwatch when he was asked if what he said related to World of Warcraft in any way. I don't think he would have hinted at additional Blizzard properties with that statement, because designers have to keep everything confidential.

Interesting! The fact that they're giving Castle significant airtime like this is a good sign. Between this and Mark Stafford seeming to say that Lego is not making a World of Warcraft theme, I think we should be hopeful for Castle's return in the near future.

Ditto! This has gone far enough.

Minecraft is hardly a castle theme. Even if it were, in 2011-12 Castle was competing with Harry Potter, LOTR, The Hobbit and Monster Fighters. It's been through worse.

Let's find out if Castle is coming back...
BrickJagger replied to leafan's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
^ Agreed. We can only hope that Castle will be coming back next year, but it's honestly hard to tell when it will be coming back. Nexo being called a Castle theme by the designers is certainly encouraging, because that shows that they still care at least somewhat about continuing the theme. View that as a positive for all you Nexo-haters One interesting question to ask them is why they've gotten to the point where almost no "classic" themes are being sold anymore. I'd like to hear an answer for that. Edit: I find it very encouraging that a sizable amount of questions in the comment section of that video are asking when classic themes such as Space and Castle are coming back. Youtube tends to skew towards a younger audience, and no matter how many techno-mashups and licenses you throw out there, there will always be a group of people who want classic themes. In all likelihood Castle, Space and co. will outlive every single license currently on the shelves, including SW. They're just topics that will never die. -
There are over 100 million accounts for MySpace. They do, until the bubble bursts. Licenses in moderation are fine, but the bottom could fall out at any point and I don't think they're setting themselves up well for that. Frankly it's not a good idea to put too much of anything on the market at the same time, so this isn't just me complaining about Licenses or anything. Eventually Lego will hit a brick wall with these things and that...will not be pretty.
-
But I mean, is this necessary? I know there are still Overwatch fans out there, I just don't get why Lego is intent on loading up on licenses, and mediocre ones at that. Do they need another one to get lost in the shuffle? They've got to have at least 20 by now.
-
Geez. How many licensed themes can they have running at one time? Overwatch isn't exactly the hottest thing out there right now.
-
I'm just thinking that there has to be some way for them to continue to Castle line. On one hand I hope you're right, because if there are no Castle sets in TLM2, it's more likely that there will be a fully-fledged Castle theme out next year. Then again, Harry Potter exists, but that didn't stop it at all in the past.

Now that the Lego Movie 2's title has been revealed, I expect that we'll get a trailer of some kind in the near future. Crossing my fingers for a Castle themed set, especially if Lego decides not to make a theme for next year. Since the last movie was five years ago, I expect there to be new heraldry of some kind for the Castle figs.

I remember seeing something about a Knight Bus earlier in this thread...don't know if it's true.

LEGO Nexo Knights 2018
BrickJagger replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
For real! What I want to know is why we even got this wave in the first place if the summer wave and the TV show were completely cancelled. I'm glad that we at least got something, but what was the purpose?- 1,601 replies

Didn't see that. We have plenty of great mech builders on these boards though, so some people on here should definitely give it a shot.- 1,601 replies

Nexo Knight Power Shield #133 Barcode
BrickJagger replied to technicbasics's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
It was probably never released. It could have been planned to show up in the summer wave as a shield for the Vampires, but that wave was cancelled.- 12 replies

LEGO Nexo Knights 2018
BrickJagger replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
So apparently there's a contest to build the best mech...that's unexpected. Could the "prize" mentioned possibly be an exclusive figure or build of some kind? I image that it wouldn't be the current sets, as they're trying to clear them off the shelves as quickly as possible.- 1,601 replies

The one on the left appears to be a fake, but I'm not 100% sure. Sometimes the "Battle-pack" type sets that are made in China don't have a mark on the neck like regular figures do and that torso did come in the 2014 pack. I'll check mine in a bit and I'll let you know if it has the marking. Otherwise, it's a fake.

That Batmobile is a strong contender for the worst set ever produced. Not only does it look like a knockoff, it's...160 bucks? Power Functions aren't worth $130.

They look like customs...if you can call 'em that. More like random mish-mashes of parts and a Brickforge (?) Centaur. No fakes as far as I can see, but a few more angles of the figs wouldn't hurt.

Just thought of another small thing. I feel like the April Fool’s jokes that the staff used to do were a fun way to bring the forum together. Those topics used to get a couple hundred replies each iirc and it was interesting to see how the site layout would change, or if we had been taken over by the Disney overlords. In the past few years though, there hasn’t been one. It’s really just a small thing, but is there a reason why the mods stopped doing them?

There are a few problems with Castle's current situation. First of all, a lot of us like Castle because it is Castle. It's usually Historic, it directly fits our needs and even when it occasionally deviates from the mean (KK2) there are still plenty of good figures and sets within that very theme that appeal to all of us. It's also fun to be a fan of something with such a long, varied and established history that stretches back over forty years. When Lego tries to "replace" Castle with a licensed theme, it's not the same. That theme has its own fanbase and its own established plot. Oftentimes the people here and those licensed fans do not mesh well. It'd be like cancelling Star Trek and telling its former fans to go watch Star Wars instead. Secondly, it's the Castle fans themselves. We have lots of great members here in Historic themes. Many have been around for years, and a few for almost a decade. There are a lot of different and well-thought out arguments and discussions in the threads here, more so than most other boards IMO. The longer Lego goes without making a Castle theme, the more members lose interest and leave, such as SirBlake. I don't blame them, and it's hard to stay loyal to a brand that gives you nothing of what you want. A lot of people used to take solace in the CMF line, but even that has been cannibalized by The Simpsons, Disney, Batman, Ninjago, Harry Potter, etc. On another note, welcome to the boards, @leafan ! It's pretty quiet in this section right now but there's a voting game coming soon that's bound to be interesting. Also, we should probably continue this discussion in another thread because this one is about SirBlake.

Well first of all, perception and reality are two different things! We were having a civil discussion until you showed up, so tell me: What is your complaining about about my complaining actually adding to this forum? Unikitty comes off as a girl’s theme due to the pastel colors and the predominately female cast. It has its own lane, but it doesn’t appeal to me. I’ve bought a few Creator sets in the past few years, I like how Lego has included a nice variety of City buildings in the line but there’s not much to it outside of that. Hopefully the reason why Creator isn’t doing Castle, Pirates, Space and “Action Theme” type sets is because Lego intends to bring them back at some point.

Is that really true though? Of the “original” themes remaining, we have three girl-themed lines (Elves, Unikitty and Friends) three City lines (Creator, City and Creator Expert) and Technic. That’s literally it. You can either build a city, or you can collect overpriced licensed sets for that one figure that somehow made it worth the money. Lego no longer seems to be about the building or the creativity. It is about brand recognition and serving as a collector’s line for people who care more about resale value than the actual product.

Kingdoms sold well enough to warrant a full second wave and a giant exclusive set in the third year. I think you're talking about Castle 2013, which probably didn't sell too well because Lego dumbed it down so it wouldn't compete with LOTR. Both of them ended up being flops though. As to your second point, the only non licensed theme that's been evergreened is Ninjago, which is technically a license now too. Other than City Lego seems to have discontinued all non-licensed themes permanently. Can't blame 'em, what sells, sells. I just don't have to be happy with it.
