Corrington: Sign-up and Discussion, Era II
Ayrlego replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Welcome Drunknok! Great introduction and I look forward to your stories. Not really anything else for you to do to register your character. If you want to participate in the Economic Game System (EGS) you should submit a build submittal form to earn your first DB, and you may want to pop a quick comment in the the Accounts thread asking the guys there to add you to the accounts spreadsheet. Good choice, most of us Corries started the game in Arlinsport. If you are playing the EGS, you get a small first property free, so you may want to build a house or tavern in which Reinhard is residing before beginning his adventures. -
Impressively huge as usual - that curved roof is amazing! Great to see you building again KB!

Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II

@Kolonialbeamter It's not much better, but is far greater resolution... -
After leaving Myzectlan, Colonel Sir Dirk Allcock and retinue made hast back through the jungles of Cascadia to the Corrish settlement of Camp Isaac. On arriving Sir Dirk rushed straight to the Royal Post office to seek news from the world outside of Cascadia. Although there were a number of letters for the Colonial Governor, the Post Master confirmed there was still no world from Don Isaac Montoya, last seen departing for diplomatic talks at the Sea Rat settlement of Tortuga. Camp Isaac, named after Don Montoya himself, was founded primarily as a base of operations for scientific research expeditions exploring Cascadia. Indeed it was from Camp Isaac that the expedition which discovered the lost city of the Myzec departed. The settlement is starting to slowly grow with more permanent buildings such as the offices of the Royal Post. Although a new structure, the Royal Society, who manages the Camp Isaac has decreed that developments must have as little impact on the natural surroundings as possible, hence the somewhat overgrown feel to the settlement. ------ An additional angle of the build especially for the good Count Mesabi, but alas no interior this time! Will be licensed as a medium commerce for Camp Isaac.

A master Chocolatier has opened in King's Harbour. The distinctive dark purple colour which the façade of this small artisan has been painted has quickly become synonymous with high quality chocolate sweets made buy master craftsmen. It is rumoured this chocolate house even supplies the Queen herself... The second last of our factions mircobuild rewards from Challenge V - this time a small artisan.- 77 replies

Ok here goes! @Kolonialbeamter I would suggest three types of tags, both the square and round options are great. I could go either but if pressed would probably say I actually prefer the square, although you are right and the round 'coin' is more fitting! Here are my three suggestions: Gold - For winning an Era 1 challenge category Gold - For participating in every Era 1 challenge Silver - For at least 1 entry in an Era 1 challenge and of course you are only awarded the highest level tag that you qualify for! [COR-FB] Arlinsport Potato Plantation
Ayrlego replied to Spud The Viking's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Nice plantation Spud and I think that potatoes are quite fitting for the more temperature climate of Arlinsport. The potatoes themselves are well done - I was planning a potato field at one stage for LoR but never got around to building it. I was wondering whether to use brown or tan round 1x1 plates for the potatoes and I think you have shown here that the tan work very well and provide a contrast to the brown field. Great job! -

Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Ayrlego replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Yes, I think that is a reasonable statement, although all factions could do with more active players. I would choose the faction that interests you the most, regardless of representation. I think it is far easier to find the motivation to build and participate that way and you'll be more likely to enjoy the game and thus play for longer! And of course we'd love to have you in Corrington Regardless of who you choose, if you have any questions, feel free to ask! There is the beginnings of a new starters guide here. -
Settlement, Jameston, Celestia, Corrington

The state owned Celestia Sugar Company has established a Royal Plantation and Residence in the Jameston hinterland. Colonel Allcock has also personally invested in a small sugar plantation neighbouring the Royal project- 59 replies

The search for land capable of growing sugar cane was one of the main drivers behind the nations of the Madrice peninsular exploring the eastern seas. The demand for sugar remains huge, and while Corrington's national drink may well be rum, the nation has until now mostly relied on importing sugar from Oleon or Eslandola. While some attempts at growing sugar had been made on Tiberia, these were not very successful, Tiberia falling outside the tropical zone - indeed rumours were that these attempts were nothing but a cover for smuggling activity. When Corrington made claims in the Sea of Theives, sugar growing was first attempted in earnest in Stormhaven. When the settlement of Jameston was established on Celestia, the main motivation was access to the vanilla bean the island was famed for - indeed the ETTC has recently established the first vanilla plantation outside Jameston. However, Royal Society botanists commissioned by the Crown determined the environs of Jameston, especially the flood plains to the south, to also be idea for sugar cultivation. A government owned company was established - the Celestia Sugar Company (CSC) with the remit of founding a sugar industry on Celestia. After many months hard work, the first plantation is operational. Now when travelling on the rough roads heading into the southern hinterland, the fields of sugar cane dominate the landscape. Footprint = 10,240 studs Of course a plantation on such a scale requires major manpower and the company has offered generous incentives to attract workers to the project. Workers are offered a revolutionary arrangement where they are required to work two weeks in the fields then receive one week off in the settlement. While in the fields they are accommodated in specially designed blocks. These accommodation blocks can hold 20 workers and while pretty basic, they are designed with features like extra ventilation to help them cool down at night. Footprint: 5,120 studs Interior picture (especially for you @Mesabi ) The first sections of cane are ready for harvesting, which means the fields are carefully set on fire. This idea, while sounding crazy at first, makes much sense. Up to 25 percent of the sugar cane plant can be leaves and other parts that need to be removed before processing. By setting the fields on fire, these parts are burnt away, along with the undergrowth, making harvesting much easier. Here workers are preparing to harvest a pre-burnt field. Footprint = 3,840 studs Lastly, such an ambitious project needs the right oversight and leadership - and such talent requires an adequate residence from which to oversee the operation. Edward Barrett was identified the man for the job, and a grand residence has been constructed for his use. Footprint = 10, 752 studs Additional Pics: Now, with huge tracts of land under sugar cultivation, and the first harvest due, the Celestia Sugar Company is planning mills to process their raw product. Long Live the Queen! ----------------------------------- I've been wanting to kick start the sugar industry for Corrington for some time now, being that it is indeed stated as one of the main drives for us initially expanding beyond Tiberia. Although I had a stack of builds on my to do list, for some reason I started playing with sugar cane plants in LDD. I then did some pricing on Bricklink... and then promptly went back to LDD!! If I was going to attempt to make a major sugar industry, I decided I needed to go big. I will be licensing as a Royal sized plantation in the EGS. The total of the plantation parts of the builds (The fields, workers block and post-burning field) exceed the required foot print (19,200/16,384). The workers block and cane fields were supposed to be part of the same build, but LDD kept crashing so I separated them out to remain sane! Also I'd like to assure you all that each cane plant was hand placed. Believe it or not I sat here and placed each one individually over several long and tedious sessions! No bulk cut and past here! The plantation house was to also be part of the Royal plantation, but as the builds so far exceeded the size requirement, and the plantation house itself has a footprint of 10,752 I will be licensing it separately as another royal property, this time a residence. Both properties will be donated to the faction. It was great fun to build grand again, but back to the real bricks shortly. I did cave in towards the end and ordered a couple of hundred tan telescope pieces so I can replicate the cane fields (on a smaller scale) in real bricks for the sugar mill which will be the next in the series (although not next in my build list!)

Nice work Puvel! It fits so well with the other builds and completes the cocoa process. The lime was indeed a bold move, one I think you have used before and it works nicely in this scene. I've experimented several times but never seem to be able to pull it off! I like the hats the workers are wearing, nice use of that part and the bulky looking carriage is nice as well. I think the palm trees worked out ok, at first I thought the cheese slopes were a bit block-like, but on looking closer I released that they work quite well. I probably wouldn't have noticed the the leave connections if you hadn't pointed them out! Great job all round! Great collaboration guys - a pleasure working with you all!

Royal Society of Natural Philosophy - General Discussion
Ayrlego replied to Ayrlego's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
@MesabiOOC: Lol, perfect response from the Count! We'd still love to have one of your characters as a member - but they need to have background in scientific study not piracy! Maybe the Count hires a scientist because he is seeking some kind of scientific advantage or discovery, or maybe as revenge, anyway I'm sure you can think of a fitting story! Have this new character do a few science-y type builds and I'm sure he'll then receive an invitation!- 42 replies

The build turned out quite nice, and I already gave you some feed back on flickr so I won't go into that here! That suspension bridge is a nice set from TLG! It is however rather presumptuous for Count Mesabi to presume he is a fellow of the Society! The requirements to be considered for membership are quite clear in the RSNP thread - the committee will discuss membership and reply shortly. Colonel Allcock is somewhere in the vicinity, having just departed Myzectlan. Count Mesabi needs not avoid him, as Allcock bears the Count no ill will, but does cast a wary eye on some of his less reputable activities!

After a couple of months fascinating and peaceful interlude in the ancient city of Myzectlan, the time has come for Colonel Sir Dirk Allcock to leave, and resume his duties as Colonial Governor from a more accessible location. Sir Dirk and Dr Brickingstone approach High Priestess Zia to announce Dirk's imminent departure. Dr Brickingstone wishes to remain with the Myzec for the time being, so Dirk has made him the Corlander representative. He has been instructed to continue working on a draft treaty which will make the valley of the Myzec a semi autonomous zone within the Corlander colony of Cascadia. "Colonel Allcock, I believe you will be leaving us shortly" said Zia through Dr Brickingstone as the interpreter. Although usually able to pick up languages quite fast, Dirk had yet to master Myzec. "That is correct your Highness, I must leave your beautiful city for a while, as pressing matters require my attention elsewhere. In my place, and with your permission, I will leave a small party with Dr Brickingstone." "That is acceptable Colonel. As you are aware, most Myzec have no desire to leave our hidden valley. Sometimes, rarely, individuals amongst us venture outside, most to never be heard of again. Indeed one of my most promising young apprentices has expressed a desire to explore the world beyond our domain. This is Cuxi" Zia said, indicating to a young women at the base of the throne. "I would ask you to take Cuxi and a small party of attendants with you as my representative, so she may learn of your world" "Of course your highness, it would be an honour." Soon the arrangements were made and Dirk was ready to depart. He would miss Myzectlan, however his responsibilities weighed heavily on him, and he needed to return to Port Woodhouse and Jameston. Also he was beginning to worry about the disappearance of his good friend Don Isaac Montoya, last seen heading to the Sea Rat haven of Tortuga to treat with the infamous Captain Benjamin Morgan. He would depart in the morning for Camp Isaac, and seek information from the Royal Pioneers there before deciding on his next destination. One thing was sure, he could not help his friend from Myzectlan. An additional scene of the throne: A special thanks to all those who made suggestions/comments in the WIP thread for this build!
