[COR ML] Harbour Administration, Mesabi Landing
Ayrlego replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I quite like to contrast between the front and back of this building Drunknok - also the diagonal doors on the seaward side look great. The minfig with fish on the stick followed by the cat is also a nice little detail that stood out for me! -
That's a great looking cutter Bodi, and like Captain Genaro mentions it's an impressive turn around on Keynomous build. I really like how you took inspiration from his boat and created your own version... now I have an urge to try it myself... and since I'm down a trader (after some pesky bluecoats outbid me at the last minute on my own vessel ) I may just have to try my hand at a small cutter like this.... great job!
-
Lovely little trader Keymonus, like the others have mentioned I like how you have highlighted the role of these little traders! I like the cargo visible on the deck and the arrangement of the sails. This is a perfect description for how I imagine 'big' commerce in the brick seas.... I may have to use it a some stage!

Nice beach scene Bart - teeming with life! The fishing activity also really pops out - I think it must be the angle of the fish, but it definitely conveys movement. Great job! -
[COR-PROJECT] The University of Tiberia
Ayrlego replied to Mesabi's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Great to see this initiative realised Mesabi, good work on the development and coordination of the project! All participants, I would like to strongly advocate posting discussions of your plans / WIP shots of your creations in this post for feedback and collaborative purposes. I have participated in several large collaborations both here on Eurobricks and elsewhere where we have posted WIP shots for comment and criticism as we progress. It gives you another set of opinions which you can discard or implement at your discretion, improves the overall quality of the project and helps tie MOCs from multiple builders together. I plan on participating - My entry will likely be of a similar style to @Elostirion's House by the River - except in keeping with Mesabi's concept as stated above it will be in dark red bricks. I need to order a stack of 1x2 tiles and plates and will post some of my own WIP shots here for comment when ready! I'm really looking forward to seeing what we all can come up with here!- 23 replies

Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Ayrlego replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I believe it has been left fairly vague on purpose. The intent is to encourage collaboration between players, so I would think that if you can show that some effort when into coordinating between players, then you'll be fine. I'll go into more detail of how this came about below which will hopefully help. If in doubt, you could always check before hand. If player A builds and player B provides text - either could license the build (of course a single build may only be licensed once, so either by player A or B, but not both). In the case of it being a fourth licensed build, then yes as two or more people were involved in it's production, I do not see why this could not be called a collaboration. Do you mean that player A and player B both produce different builds and stories, however they share a common storyline (see significant point below)? If so, then yes this would count for both players as a fourth licensable build. So in the spirit of transparency, the requirement for the collaboration component in the fourth licensable build was a compromise between those of us in court who supported allowing a fourth licensable build, and the others who wanted it limited to three. To make the licensing of a fourth build acceptable to the majority, the inclusion of the 'collaboration' clause was made - the intent was to encourage story telling and collaboration between players over building exclusively for the EGS. Again in the interest of transparency (you said you'd like more - I see no reason not to give it a try) I personally feel (and I have a suspicion that we will both agree on this point) that this clause is always going to be subjective and thus I am not sure how it will work out. So we would ask that players try to stick to the spirit of the intent here. Joint writing of the story, perhaps a small vignette from player B, there are many ways you could demonstrate collaboration. Good question - I would personally say no - again as long as you were sticking to the intent of the ruling (see above) - I really don't see any way this could be made quantitative. I see no issue with Player A writing an IC request for the construction of a building, then Player B building that construction and writing the associated blurb. For example: Governor Allcock calls for the construction of a cannon foundry in the Paradise Isles. An open letter is written in the Corrington thread calling for interested parties and outlining conditions. You build a factory producing cannon and write the story to go with the build. This would be acceptable as your fourth licensable build. Oh finally an easy one! No, no limit on player numbers for any one collaboration - you can have as many as you like. -
A very appropriate 'prospecting' method for the WTC Mesabi, nice work! After some analysis, you will be pleased to know that no coal was discovered this time... rather you seemed to have uncovered a rather large deposit of salt.

[COR] Medium Sugar Plantation
Ayrlego replied to Flavius Gratian's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Great plantation Flavius, we are really getting into the sugar cane business here in Corrington! I feel your pain building all those canes - I remember well from the Royal I did... at least it isn't quite as bad as building them physically - that was even worse! It's a pity that you can't get the rendering to work, I think this build really deserves it - if you want a lazy solution you could always email me the LLD file and I can attempt a quick render. Anyway great job, and it is indeed nice to see Port Raleigh getting some love! -
I really like this build Bodi - the texturing is excellent and the wooden sections blend perfectly with the masonry. Like Kai I also really like the openness of the structure. Excellent work!

[COR May FB2] Blackwood's Lodgings, Port Woodhouse
Ayrlego replied to Ayrlego's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thank you all for the comments! It is nice to be back building! Expect to see some more of this style from me over the next couple of month as it's one I really enjoy and would like to do more. Thanks Kai, I'm pretty sure they took more time than the rest of the build all together! I tried to do the same over the archway, but gave up after several frustrating hours! It's not very elegant... but here it is My advice would be to order way more than you think you'll need, I always seem to go through far more than I expect to starting out! -

Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Ayrlego replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I guess it depends on if it is a build collaboration or a story collaboration... For example. If you and I have a story collaboration going where one of my characters builds something in Mesabi Landing, then one of your characters responds by building something else, then yes, both builds can be licensed, one by me and one by you. Note this option would need to show a significant collaboration story-wise between us, something that we had clearly planned and worked on together. However, If you and I are collaborating to build a large factory, and I build part of the required footprint, then you build the second half of the footprint, then only one player or entity would be able to license both builds as a single property. Clear as mud? -
Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Ayrlego replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
ALL: In regard to the recent update of EGS Licensing limit rules, after much deliberation the court has revised the revision to the following: License limits 1. There are no restrictions on how many builds a player may submit each month. 2. Each month, a maximum of four properties built by any individual player may be licensed in the EGS, regardless of the licensing entity*. 3. These four builds may be licensed at any location, however only three properties from the same player may be licensed in any single location per month. 4. The fourth build licensed by a player in a month must be part of a collaboration (either build or story-wise) with another player / other players. 5. Micro build βprizesβ awarded by leadership and builds towards Royal Collaborations do not count towards individual licence totals or location quotas. * 'Entity' includes individual player accounts, settlements and trade companies. Of note players can now licence up to four builds a month, although one must be a story or build collaboration with another player/s. This is done to encourage collaborative storylines and builds. The other significant change is that mirco-build prizes no longer count towards licence totals or location quotas. If there are any questions to this update, please ask here and we'll clarify. Update can also be found here: -

Sterling Blackwood stepped out of his newly acquired lodgings and paused to take in his surroundings. The ex-Captain of Marines had recently arrived in the administrative capital of the Paradise Isles which had it's own distinctive style that made it quite unique among Corlander settlements in the new world. Smaller and quieter than it's large and bustling neighbours of Jameston and Mesabi Landing, Port Woodhouse's buildings were mainly built in the stucco style commonly associated with Mardier or Eslandola in the old world. The style suited Garma's Key, with less rainfall it was dryer and not as humid as Celestia or Cascadia, and the low lying island was able to take full advantage of the cool sea breeze in the evenings. The lodging's themselves were a simply affair, and quite adequate for Blackwood to base himself out of. Not that he intended on spending much time in the settlement - Blackwood had arrived looking for adventure. Rumours of a Corlander expedition into the uncharted East seas had brought him here. At 27, the young Corlander - in fact a distant relative of Colonial Governor Sir Dirk Allcock (although he had never met the man) - was already a veteran of Corrington's colonial expansion. Originally Blackwood had joined the army, serving as a subaltern in the 51st Regiment of Foot before transferring to a Captaincy in the Marines. Some said the transfer was the result of the young officer seeking adventure in the new colonies, some attributed it to a rumoured affair with the Colonels daughter... whatever the reason, Blackwood had taken to life at sea as a Marine. Already a master with the sword, it was at this time he discarded his regulation cutlass for an older fashioned rapier. Also, much to the horror of his fellow officers, he learnt musket drill like a common marine, achieving an impressive four shots a minute! Such eccentricities did not hinder his performance and Blackwood was mentioned in dispatches several times after violent skirmishes. However, the marines held no longer term allure for the young officer, he yearned for life outside the strict regimented structure of the military and so he recently resigned his commission as a Captain of Marines. Again rumours were whispered in the colonies - this time there was talk of a duel with a rich gentlemen in Arlinsport... Blackwood is now his own man, looking to make his own name and fortune outside the military in the exploration of the east. Time will tell how successful he will be... A build to introduce an new adventurer character for me, and kind of a easing back into physical building after my recent hiatus!

Seafaring over long distances creates an almost insatiable need for preserved foods. The East Prio Seas are teaming with fresh fish, and some enterprising locals from Jameston have set up a fish drying and processing plant on the shore of Vanilla Bay, just outside the settlement. Fish are brought from local fishermen or from the markets, often the lower quality stock. They are then hung on drying racks where the salt air quickly dehydrates them to the stage where they can be stored for approximately 1-2 years in the right conditions. Just a LLD build I did while away for Jameston. Finally got to a decent computer to render it properly. There will likely be a few more digitals from me over the next few months as I finish many half completed projects - but for now it's back to real bricks! Licensed as a large factory in Jameston.

@LM71Blackbird Clerks in the Colonial Ministry recently found what appears to be some lost prospecting samples from Quinnsville dated from May 616! An investigation shall of course be conducted into why the samples have remained unprocessed for so long, but for now it can be announced that the citizens of Quinnsville have discovered Saltpeter. -
[COR-FB] Spud's Home of Indigenous Antiquities
Ayrlego replied to Spud The Viking's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Great little build Spud. The masonry work on the front is very detailed and looks good - maybe a few too many round 1x1s for my taste, but looking good! The yellow and brown upper layer looks fantastic - the protruding windows and 1x1 round brown bricks are real highlights. The crowded interior conveys the atmosphere I think you were going for really well and I like the overall concept. A nice addition to the settlement! Great job! -
@Phred/ @Captain Genaro would it be possible to add a column to the settlement status sheet that shows the number of plantations in a settlement? It's not a huge deal or anything, it would mainly just to help work out what is licensed and what isn't for the settlement pages. Just seems strange it's the only property type not included on the sheet - I'm guessing it was something to do with the original 'hinterland' rules?
