It should be noted that a lot of the issues being brought up are going to have a VERY short life. Things like "planets with no domination points on them" is going to last a few weeks and then never really be present again except rarely. So I don't want to invest a ton of time and effort into ironing out a few kinks that really is only going to be an issue for a couple weeks. I'd rather tackle longer term issues that will have far reaching balance implications.

Lots of fig-on-a-plate doesn't really benefit you that much. If Octan has 3 people that get a 1 or 2, you only need 1 good builder or maybe 2 in order to counter. So I don't think numbers is all it takes. The problem with not doing credit transfers is that it forces people to participate all the time to ever get anything. Casual players will never earn enough. And maybe that is ok. But I like that I can be part of the team and give my credits to others to have an impact. Otherwise my contribution feels less team based. This is essentially a team game, so I don't want to steer it more towards being an individual thing.

This I like. It feels more "real". I land on the planet and mine the heck out of it, then someone else shows up with more forces, they get the planet, but I sneak off with my plunder. I'd certainly vote for that rule. Plus it leaves early builds on the table as valuable.

I really struggle with option 1. I like that early build posts have a purpose, but I agree that if Mantis posts 30 points and Kawashita posts 40 later in the week the planet shouldn't still be in Mantis' control. I guess I'd like to see the weekly total be the count that matters but some game mechanic where early builds have a purpose. I don't think it should be a flurry of activity at the last second to avoid tipping your hand.

Thanks to Bob and the others running the game. I know it takes a lot of time but I'm really having a fun time. It is still early on so hopefully everyone has patience as things get ironed out a bit.

Personally I think I like that it is the first option. It seems like more and more people are switching to a "post late" strategy. But the first solution makes posting early worthwhile too. Otherwise everyone should post at the last possible second to not reveal anything.

[Challenge 1] Razorback Weel of the northern islands of Traig IV

Very menacing creature. You have a lot of chains! -
I really like that waterfall and the rocks in the water!

First off, total lies. We tried to come to the aid of a downed ship on Arium Minor in the hopes of rendering aid to any injured Kawashita members. Our benevolent actions are because we care. Love the mech and the deboarding of the boat. Very organic. Those flower/tree things are great. I really like the parts usage.

3 is still less biased than 1. The only problem with set specific guidelines is you get people building to the letter of the law and avoiding the spirit of the law. Over 500 pieces gets another point? People fluff up the part count with some background. Plus even within your guidelines you have "advanced techniques" which is entirely subjective. Something like wrong environment should basically be a DQ. If you build on a barren world and you have a giant sea life scene it should just be "Please try again." But you need some flexibility too. I mean look at earth ... tell me what a body of water looks like. Green? Blue? White? Because I can think of places where you would see each of those.
-
What? That would be the opposite. One judge per build comes down entirely to personal preference. The current average of a group approach minimizes any individual bias.

A really nice build. Great rockwork and that lighting effect is a cherry on top. The little droid is very well done. Upholding the finest MANTIS standards, you folks have some quite humorous builders!

Thus far this game has been about capturing planets that are unaligned. I think people need to see how the "combat" shapes up as we start to battle over planets. If we all acted gentlemanly/ladylike and allowed everyone equal access it would become rather dull.
-
That was actually my inspiration! I'm so happy someone caught that. Thanks to the judges!

I'm not yet in the player index, so I don't know how many credits I have. But whatever my current total is, I wish for them to be sent to the account of Bob of Quatrian. Thank you kindly.

The shape is very reminiscent of a deep diving submersible. The drill out back is great, the landscape is great, the opening hatch is great... the story is great. So glad to see one of my favorite SoNE builders here and working for Octan!

The ship just is perfect for MANTIS. Lots of neat detailing and love the engines.

I also got a Firefox vibe from it. Nice build and lovely ship.

You know, for such a serious group as MANTIS, they have some really funny builders! Love the story. Clearly that was a Kawashita spy in Octan clothes though, our guys are way smarter than that.

I love the humor in your builds! I'm glad I'm an Octan scientist or my life expectancy would be rather short it seems. Really a delight to see your builds and read the stories and I love the continuity!

Very colorful build and a great story. Is that Nessie in the water? ;)
