  1. Welcome to EB! @Eurotrash... You are right, what twelve step program? We don't need any twleve step program. We can quit any time we want, we just don't want to quit! Besides that none of us are adicted to LEGO, it's just an innocent hobby ;);) Andy D
  2. I have come to a conclusion. LEGO as a hobby is more about sorting and organizing and finding storage solutuions than building. I need to get this sort, store, organize project done so I can spend more time building. I just spent the better part of 4 hours disassembling sets, gathering parts from sets I previously disassembled and pre-sorting into small tubs so I can do a fine sort, another several hours. But, it does help me to refresh my memory a to what I have in terms of quantity and color of standard bricks and plates and special pieces. So maybe sorting and storing is just as creative as building ;) ;) Well back to it. Andy D
  3. Some very interesting responses. Some were quite humerous, I wish you luck with your relationships. I guess I wasn't clear, but several of you got it anyway... I was really thinking of **all** ways your spouse supports your hobby, not just money. One thing for sure, she/he knows where you are, you are not out drinking and carousing (no money left over after LEGO) and my wife is glad I spend the money on LEGO instead of cigarettes (I quit that nonsense 23 years ago). But I still make it a point to get things for her and I never question what she spends on clothes or shoes or anything she wants. Andy
  4. Very good! Surprising, the story started off with a familiar look, but the ending was not what I expected. Thanks for sharing this. Andy D
  5. Add me to the list of "glad this thread got bumped". This remains one of my all-time favorites. Someday I plan to build a terraced multi-level stackable modular. Andy D
  6. Seems like a slight MOD could add the 3 pieces. I know I would try it. Andy D
  7. How much does your spouse support your LEGO addiction, err hobby? The other day my wife and I were talking after a significant, well, for me significant LEGO purchase for the double points advantage. Every October, I purchase an amount of LEGO for me and we purchase a fair amount ($300-$400) for a Christmas toy drive we participate in each year. Anyway she asked me if I was looking at anything else for this October. I mentioned that I was eventually going to get the new Sydney Opera House as soon as I had enough points to pay for half of it.. She asked how much and how many points I currently have. I told her $320 for the set and I have $100 in points. Doing some quick math that means I would need another $60 in points. This would mean I would need to spend another $600 in October or $1200 the rest of the year to get $60 in points. She asked me if I (needed) wanted sets totaling that any time soon. I said, "well no". She thought a minute and said "seems like if you use the $100 now that I would only have to pay an additional $220 for the set now and get double points on the remainder of the purchase, plus there's the bonus Christmas set." Hmm.. Why didn't I think of that??? So last night we dropped by the LEGO store and got what was probibly the last Opera House at our local store before double points is finished for this year. I know I could have ordered it at shop@home, but they are no longer advertising the free Christmas Tree lot. Anyway, in what ways does your spouse think of ways to support your LEGO hobby? Andy D
  8. I didn' t get involved with LEGO until I was in my late 30's when We started to buy sets for my son. It was 10 years later when my wife got me some sets for Christmas as a joke. 10 years later I got interested in Mindstorms and sveral years later I got interested in modulars. I am a an AFOL late bloomer. Andy D
  9. If you are going to try to not only record the video on your iPhone, but also edit the video... I find iMovie to be a good IOS video editor and it includes much of what you want. Free sound effects are built-in and others can be found by searching (Google is your friend). I never tried to record a voice over, but you should be able to record your voice then add it in during the editing process. I found many good tutorial videos on YouTube for editing with iMovie for IOS. You can do all this and more with iMovie for Mac OS X, also, I believe MovieMaker for Windows OS should have many of he same features. When I was trying to learn more about video editing I used Google and found lots of helpful info on YouTube. I hope this helps... Andy D
  10. I also am glad to see this thread back! I am currently working on a new version of my first church to make it fit more in scale with the Winter Village sets. It will most likley still be larger than some of the buildings, but, frequently the church is one of he larger buildings in a community, just not too large. I really like the bell tower, maybe I will encorporate some of the bell tower ideas (no disrespect or stealing intended). The extended sancturary is also nice. Thanks for sharing this. Andy D
  11. Halloween party at the Castle The Count and Lady D are hosting a party. -- BYOB Lady D went to the Village and to find entertainment for the party. She hired some People to sing and dance. On the castle rooftop terrace The Count, Lady D and an already inebriated guest are dancing to the tunes. The Witch (arriving from the West) was on her way to the party. When she heard her favorite song Y... M.. C.. A.. become so distracted that she ran into a lightning rod on the castle. Casper was laughing so hard at the Witch’s misfortune that he ran into the other lightning rod. one by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr three by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr two by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr My first ever EB contest entry. C&C welcome Andy D
  12. Whoops, wrong thread, sorry
  13. Is this a total of 3 pictures are a total of 2 pictures posted per entry? I assume the digital backgrounds rule allows for editing in a background, not just one included when the photo was taken. This will be my first contest entry and I want to do it following the rules. Thanks, Andy D
  14. Joe (and others), was the shipment directly from Amazon, or one of their third party sellers? I find the stories very confusing as I have been buying from Amazon for years (don't know how many, but lots) and I have never had a problem with the packaging directly from Amazon. From the third party sellers on Amazon, well that's a different story, it all depends on what the third party sellers consider reasonable packaging. As a result I only look for items directly from Amazon or Amazon Fulfillment. I have Amazon Prime, so I figure I've already paid for shipping so I look for items with Amazon Prime shipping. Posting your experience here is a good idea as it lets those of us in the community know about a potential problem. The next thing you should do is to post feedback on Amazon about the shipment and if it is third party seller, post feedback directly there as well. If the seller is reputable seller they will do something about it, if not, I would not buy from that seller again. IHTH, Andy D
  15. Limit on WV Market purchases? I was at the Anaheim Downtown Disney LEGO Store last night and I wanted to purchase 2 copies of the WV Market. My wife and I were doing our annual Christmas toy drive shopping, I got a few sets for myself, and I wanted to purchase 2 copies of the WV Market, they said the limit was 1. They also said that to get around this I could purchase 1 and my wife could purchase 1, but... but I could only get points for 1. I did not do that. Maybe it is a Anaheim DtD store limit, but why offer a work around, but no points on the second? No biggie, if I decide I still want a second copy I will just go to my local store, or purchase onine. The online limit is 5. Has anyone else run into a store limit that is less than the online limit? Oh, well.... Andy D
  16. Pierce, welcome to EB. That is quite an interesting way to get dragged out of your "dark ages". Your city looks very busy, I wish you luck with your remodel. Finally it is good to see another member from So. Cal. I hope you enjoy your stay here. I have found the folks here to be very frinedly and supportave. Andy D
  17. Welcome to EB
  18. With tens of thousands of MOCs created annually, I believe more and more coincidences may (and will) occur in MOCs and sets. I do not believe most people just blatantly copy another's work to use as their own, many people will view more and more MOCs and sets and it is inevitable that good ideas will be remembered (consciously and subconsciously) and used as solutions and modified in many MOCs (and maybe sets) wheither we are conscinous of the copying or not. In the psychology field this "copying" is referred as "Standing on the shoulders of giants". I hope the LEGO designers continue to look at MOCs and maybe get ideas from the best of them. I would like to add my thanks to Jamie and all the LEGO designers who give us such great sets. I look forward to each new surprise, keep surprising me! The Prarisian Restaurant is the latest example of a surprise and delight to me. I am looking forward to building it! And finding that darn seagull! ;) ;) Andy D
  19. Welcometo Eurobricks
  20. The longest build for me was the Cafe Corner, but it was not bought as a set, it was bicklinked. My longest actual set was either the Grand Emporium or the Fire Brigade. Both took about 7 to 8 hours over three days. Andy D
  21. Wow! Just wow! This is teriffic! Size, shape and color are right on! Andy D
  22. This is not just a cup. I decided to post what I got from my last PAB large-cup from my local Lego store an the results of my bag-full from Legoland Saturday October 12, 2013. This is a bag of bricks from Legoland CA from Saturday October 12, 2013. This is what 1 3/4 pounds of these elements looks like. A bag of LEGO by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr This is a pick-a-brick cup from my local LEGO store from last week. A large cup by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr This is just a pile of the bricks from dumping the bag from Legoland A pile of bricks by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr These are the sorted bricks from the bag. It shows me I really should have gotten more of the Olive Green cheese slopes. There are a few bricks in Grey, White and Brown, some brown 1x4 tiles, some 2x2 white jumper plates, some 1x2 inverted white slopes, some hand picked 1x2 black jumper plates (they were mixed in with 6 bins of 1x2 black plates, just sitting on the top). Some Olive Green Cheese Slopes (I can now see that it is not nearly enough) some Trans Orange Cheese Slopes, come Trans Red cones, tubes, and 1x1 rounds. Some grey 1x1 round a few 1x3 trans window glass, some 1x2 white windows a few white doors. The sorted bricks by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr Some unintended pieces. Because I usually get LEGO from bins by the handful there are always some pieces that should not have been in a bin, and this is the result. The Unintended by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr The large cup dumped carefully to not disturb the layering. Note the leaves were not shown in the top of the cup because I had already removed them to use 2 or 3 in a MOC. Contents of cup by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr The contents of the Large cup sorted. Just some Trans Clear 1x2 bricks, some 1x3 white bricks, some 1x4 white window frames some light green leaves and one door and frame. Funny story about the door and door frame. The manager asked if I got any doors and frames. I said no, because there weren’t any. She pulled one from her pocket and said, now you have one. It seems she likes to carry something in her pocket to click (nervous habit). It was a parting gift as she was leaving LEGO the following week. Such a pleasant person, I looked forward to seeing her each time I visited, she will be missed. Piles of bricks from the cup by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr This is a first for me. I sorted and integrated my latest PAB cup and bag ‘O LEGO very quickly. Usually it takes me over a month from purchase to sorting into my inventory. Maybe I am turning over a new leaf to get my LEGO organized so I know what I have. Wish me luck continuing this. Andy D
  23. For someone who "is not really into LEGO" those are some seriously great MOCs. Those are great MOCs for someone who " is" seriously into LEGO. your wife has a great eye for detail. She has whimsey, detail, and realism. The bathroom looks like it could be a "real" bathroom. Great, I hope we see more from her! Andy D
  24. Excellent modular Kevin8! I really like the window treatments on the upper floors and the clock is excellent, it looks really good on he street. The TV antenna, quite a throwback, so unexpected. I also found the graffiti logo quite a nice touch. Andy D
  25. I wondered how long it would tke for someone to use the brick separaters as or in a MOC. Now just witing for them to show up in a contest MOC. Good job! Andy D
