  1. Where are all the old guys and gals (excuse me men and women)? I know you're out here! Now come in here. Tell us who you are. Andy D
  2. If Santa is out there.... I want one too! Andy D
  3. Not to be a downer or nay-sayer, but based on what I have seen on this forum there are far more people on this forum wanting to acquire a CC than people willing to sell or trade one. I see a couple of options for you... 1. Fire up your Bricklink wanted list and maybe be willing to order from multiple vendors and substitute some of the more rare, expensive parts. 2. Fire up Amazon or eBay and pay the price for a set there. 3. Whoops -- I just noticed that there are several CC complete for sale on Bricklink. Not cheap, but as you must be aware getting a CC now is not going to come cheap. Buying a complete CC from Bricklink may just be the least expensive option. I hope you find someone to trade with. But whatever you decide I hope you are able to acquire a CC it is an awsome set. Andy D
  4. Excallent article. I agree with your claims and thank you for posting this. --- Off-topic --- I also found a link in your article to the "Evolution of LEGO Sorting". I re-read this and found it described me and my evolution at several points. Andy D
  5. Very nice build. I always thought the HH would make a great modular. I still have an extra in the box just waiting for he right time. Andy D
  6. LEGO USA still lists the set a in stock, limit 5. Amazon had on sale for 28% off. I had been intending o get one sometime, so I bought it. Amazon said 2 left, I got one. Good luck Andy D
  7. What a great steampunk chopper! Wonderful detailing. I really like steampunk, I really must try it someday. Keep on steampunk'n Andy D
  8. Says it all. Nothing further need be said to anyone. How I feel! Andy D
  9. Whew! Getting worried there when the Grim Reaper showed up. Glad he is giving us a pass. Andy D
  10. Lately I have noticed a number of "senior citizen" aged AFOL's. In the USA, AARP (American Association for Retired People) defines a "senior citizen" as over 50. On Eurobricks it seems to me that the majority of AFOL's are between 20 to at most 40 maybe mostly 30-something. Some younger, some older. I have also noticed a number who (like me) seem a little older, maybe 50-70. Eurobricks has a title/badge to recognize our ladies, how about some recognition for us seniors? If you' re "older than dirt" stand up and tell us who you are. I'll go first... Hi, I'm Andy and I'm older than dirt! (68, much dirt here!) And I still enjoy building with LEGO! There I've said it, I feel better, whew, big load off my shoulders. Andy D
  11. Wow! LEGO Historian, that is quite a story. I am impressed. I just noticed your "Title / tagline undre your name". If you are older than ABS how old am I? Never too old! Andy D
  12. How about several levels of support? Zero... Nothing no $$'s if you cannot or do not want to contribute... Use the site just like now. Donation... Contribute what you want, when you want. Subscribers... Pay quartly, semi-anually, anually $15 per year... Supporter $25 per year... Supporter $50 per year... Subscriber $75 per year... Subscriber $100 per year... Super subscriber $250+ per year... Super-duper subscriber $1000 per year... Eurobricks angel This should satisfy everyone! If you cannnot or do not want to contribute it is perfectly fine, you are still welcome here a far as I'm concerned, just continue to use the site as you always have, invite your friends, have fun. If you want to donate on a regular, semi-regular or irregular basis... Perfectly fine as well. If you want to be a recognized subscriber... Perfectly fine as well. This way everyone can contribute what they want or not at all if they don't want accoding to their ability and we can keep Eurobricks healthy. Just MHO, YMMV Andy D
  13. Some have assumed tha EB would become a "pay only site" Re-read this early post from Sinner... It says it all. No need to panic about the loss of the "free to use site" Andy D
  14. I agree, except I believe too many people seem to think we are discussing leaving the sites free or charging. My opinion is leave site free, the way it is. Add premium content for those who wish to pay and become supporters to help Eurobricks continue. That way no one is left out, no one has to leave. No one has to choose to leave because they don't want to or cannot afford to pay, they just continue as they are. We all stay, we all post, some are just providing more support. Andy D
  15. In order my favorites are.. 10199 - Winter Village Toy Shop (2009) 10216 - Winter Village Bakery (2010) 10235 - Winter Village Market (2013) 10222 - Winter Village Post Office (2011) 10229 - Winter Village Cottage (2012) The WV Cottage is a great set, and a great build but the scale seems too large compared to the first 3 sets and a cottage really does't fit as well into a WV display (for me) I would like it better if all the sets were businesses. I also don't really care for the motorized vehicles like the Postal Van or the snowplow. We need a ski lodge and a relaxing area for hot chocolate after a long day skiing or shopping or playing in the market. Maybe some hotel rooms. Andy D
  16. Not yet! I have a closet full of unopened sets waiting to be built and a brain full of uncompleted (unstarted) MOCs. Andy D
  17. I've been thinking about this and my conclusion is maybe an "Easter Egg" type of thing, like a tile in some inconspicious but visible place with he designer's moniker. Andy D
  18. Sometimes I get raised eyebrows from non AFOLs when I say I build with LEGO, but then I just show them my collection and their eyes get real big, their jaws drop and they say. "That's LEGO?" "It sure is different from when I was a kid", followed by "Wow!" and "That looks just like... whatever it is, I've been there" My own feeling is I look at LEGO as ... The ultimate reusable art supply for three dimensional art projects. I don't justify, I just say "here it is", "this is part of who I am, this is how I express my artistic desires/needs". Andy D
  19. It could be a web crawler, or sometimes I (and I am sure others) find it easier to search Eurobricks from Google by using Eurobricks as part of he serch term. Andy D
  20. We've been planning for years and years and years and (big and) we got very lucky and didn't lose what we had during he downturn/crash of 2008. I do plan to get a part-time job (eventually), only something fun (if it stops being fun I will do something else, no long-term job commitment) for an additional hobby and a chance to be with others. Part of the plan was my studio we had remodeled earlier this year (didn't know it at the time) but it was only recently that by adding all the numbers that we decided that this was the year I could retire. I really want to devote much of my time to LEGO! My new primary job... My LEGO! Andy D
  21. I found this thread in the "New Content" area and I feel it is a more general topic, so I'm just going to jump in here. I have about 50 sets sitting in my storge area (closet in my studio) from the new Sydney Opera House, modulars not yet assembled, extra copies of the modulars, an extra Midevil Village Marketplace, an extra Emerald Night (will probably sell) several LOTR and Hobbit sets (bought mostly for parts), mostly "big box" sets and numerous small sets. Many of sets I bought for parts, some to assemble. My excuse is time and motivation, but when I retire late Spring I intend to start assembling sets and part out sets for my inventory. Call it my retirement present to myself. Andy D
  22. Frequently it is just a cup of coffee in the AM or iced tea or soft drink later. Usully not food, not because of mess, but because it gives me an oppotunity for a break. Andy D
  23. Wow! This is great! For this last Halloween I put 2 Vampyre Castles together to make a larger castle. Yours looks much more massive, I hope you do not mind if I borrow some of your ideas for my castle next halloween. I will make sure to credit you for the inspiration. Andy D
  24. I really, really don't want to see EuroBricks go away. We need to pull together to make sure that that does not happen. I get a lot of value from this site in reviews, looking at contest entries and other MOCs and other hints and tips that are discussed here. I would also support the $5US per month for a premium version of EB. I would appreciate a semiannually or annual payment plan, some might like the monthly option. I really would not like the idea of an auto-pay, I would rather have control of when I pay and when and if I decide to stop. Like Legogal I also feel that the $60US per year is not too much to ask considering the value of EB to me. I get the impression that many of us here spend $1000-$5000 US per year on LEGO and LEGO related activities, so $60 per year should't be a real hardship. I am not sure that all reviews and contests need to be excluded from the non-paying version of the site, maybe just offer some extra contests and raffles for the premium version. The advertising should definitely continue for the non-paid version of the site in order to help meet expenses and the premium version should be add-free. Maybe the non-paid version of the site should just continue as-is just give some premium features for the premium version. This should satisfy all. Count me in as a supporter! Andy D
  25. Great little vig! I never thought of a go-cart track as a Winter event, but reconsidering my thoughts a Winter Village go-cart track could be more fun than any other time of the year. Normally you can't drift those rental go-carts, but on snow........ Let the drifting fun begin! Good luck in the contest. Andy D
