Review Monster Fighters 9468 Vampyre Castle
Andy D replied to Artanis I's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Start now! I recently completed my expanded Vampire Castle, and I am starting to work on the rest. It is amazing how modular the Vampire castle is, it is really easy to make a larger castle with 2 sets. I will post photos as soon as my display is complete. Andy D -
Wow! It looks like you put a lot of thought into this. I hope you are right! Thinking about some of what you said... "Cafe Corner testing the waters" and that the target audience is the AFOL, and that they will use many of the dark blue pieces that are in the Winter Vilage Market (makes a lot of sense, why introduce the parts just for the WVM). I really hope you are right, you predictions sound like an interesting building... I'll take 2! Andy D

Wow! Just plain amazing, again! All the little details, who thinks to put a dumpster out back? Kristel, that's who. Your modulr buildings never dissappoint always great. The striping technique... Well, great! Andy D

Whoops! I got the Brick-or-Treat mailer today. The discount coupon is for a week in December, not October. Well, I guess I will just have to do my stock-up during the double points in October. Maybe buy so other sets in December if something else new comes out that I have to have. Sisiliko. -- Have a great time! Andy D

Thinking about selling my entire lego collection (306 sets)
Andy D replied to Legoking's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
@Legoking You might want to really think about this. My son disposed of his 1980's LEGO collection in the early to mid 1990's. I disposed of my mid 1990's LEGO collection, mostly the space theme of the time. Then 10+ years later in the mid 2000's I got interested in LEGO again. I wish I still had those sets, they would cost a small fortune to replace now, I will not replace them, rather have new sets for the money, but I still wish I still had them. My son (now in his early 30's) has also rekindled his interest in LEGO. I now have a newly remodled room hat is used excluively for LEGO (my son got married and moved out, I got one of his rooms, my wife got the other) If you really need money, then there may be no other way. When I got rid of my LEGO I thought I was done. Now I am more involved than ever before. Think about it... IHTH Andy D -
You have to go to a LEGOland 3 to 4 times per year to make a membership make sense. Most of us get the membership because we enjoy LEGOland, not just for merch discounts. The merch discounts are just an extra benefit (to me). Andy D

Welcome John! I now have another contemporary on the forum. Looking forward to hearing more from you on the forum! Andy D

The 10% off coupon from the Lego Catalog isn't accepted for exclus
Andy D replied to tkatt's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I was talking to a supervisor at my local LEGO store last Friday eve and she said that the damaged box discounts are no more (maybe just that store, I don't know). There was a Tower Bridge with a mangled box on the shelf for full price. I am not sure what would happen just handling the box, real bad. What AFOL discount sticker? Is this just for some countries? Andy D -
I know about the double points through LEGO stores and on-line, I usually buy quite a bit then, and my wife and I also usually buy a bunch (about $300) for a toy donation program where we work. The LEGOland sale is for Merlin Members, not VIP. As you posted, they do not accept VIP at LEGOland, but you normally get a 10% discount with a Merlin Membership, and double on one special day in October. I am trying to find when is the special day in October this year. also in the past you had to have a coupon that was in the flyer mailed to Merlin Members for the special discount. I usually do my annual stock-up during the double VIP points with LEGO stores and discount day at LEGOland, then just a few sets during the year. Thanks anyway. Andy D

Yeah, I have also checked the website too. They normally post about he Bricktober events and decorations, (as they have this year) but not about the Member discount day, this is normally on a communication just sent to Merlin Members. I will probably be going October 12, that is usually the weekend of the member sale. I've been putting off calling, but you are correct, I may just have to call. I have been hesitating calling because it frequently just takes so much "phone tag" to get to the person with the answer. I was just hoping someone had received the flyer. Thanks, Andy D

Out of the 172 views of this thread... Is there anyone who is a Merlin member for LEGOland So. Cal? If you are a member, have you also received (or not) any info about the October events at LEGOland So. Cal? Do you usually stock-up during the October LEGOland event? I just want to know I am not alone here. Can a Merlin member for So. Cal. LEGOland Speak up? Thanks, Andy D

Thanks. I just sent an email using the contact form on the LEGO website. Thanks, Andy D

Very nice! Reminds me of what a service station / car wash would be like in a crowded urban environment. Really nice integration of the Town Plan Service Station / Car Wash with a multi-story modular building. Andy D

Very nice. Interesting choice of parts as well. Andy D

Thanks, Do you mean the URL you get when you request an instruction set that ends in a number xxxxxxx.pdf? I tried that with all three books in the 20214 set, and no joy. Maybe I was doing something wrong, I will try again later and let you know. Thanks, Andy D

I just got the 20214 and I am going to get the 20215 as well. I was wondering if there is a PDF of the documents online anywhere? I like to use my iPad because I can read anywhere (don't have to take the books with me) and I can make things bigger if I need to (kind of like have in a magnifying glass, my vision isn't what it once was). I just discovered set 20216 which has the robot designer and what am more interested in, the Micro Scale designer. I think these three sets (20214, 20215 and 20216) may be just what I need to help me with learning more for my MOCs. Any help much appreciated. Andy D

Does anyone know if LEGOland CA is having their annual BrickTOBER event this year? I am sure they will have the decorations and Brick-or-Treating, but I am wondering about their usual sale day for Merlin members. I have not received my coupon / notification of the day yet. I thought the flyer came earlier than this in previous years. Anybody got their flyer / coupon yet? I will either buy my annual stock-up doing double points at the LEGO Store, or LEGOland or a combination of both. I need to plan my shopping trip. Thanks Andy D

Kind of like that LEGO TARDIS. You were wishing for ;););) Huh? I would not like to see your idea of many... ;););) Do you have a lot of LEGO sets, which occupy a lot of living space? I have a number of sets (less than 50 I think) all confined to a closet and one section of my cabinets in my LEGO studio. Did you buy many LEGO sets, but never open. and keep it unopened for years? (thinking about resale, regift, part-out LATER, but never happened?) Only because of a combination of factors... 1. Not enough display space for all my sets. 2. Not enough time to part out and get sorted (but I haven't needed the parts yet, when I do I will part out the set) 3. I am still trying to get my storage system finalized and get my loose parts sorted (almost done), stored and inventoried. Did you buy many LEGO used pieces but still sitting in the bins and never have time to sort them out? Many, many fewer than ShaydDeGrai, just saying that makes me feel better. Do you have have many unfinished MOCs from..like years? Only have 2 unfinished MOCs, but they just need landscaping, the actual building is complete. Do you keep all the instruct books, all the boxes..even the LEGO club magazines. the sticker sheets and LEGO catalogs? even the plastic number bags?? Just the instruction books, even though I appreciate the box art I just do not have room to store or display them as the works of art they are. Do you think "I have too many LEGO pieces" but still buy some more when you think it is cheap enough? No, not too many, but I still buy more because it seems I am always missing something I need. Do you not only buy some LEGO sets. but also some watches, key chain, playing cards, magnet or even eraser/notebook? No, no, no, and no. Based on this definition, and since my LEGO is confined to one room, and even though I do have a semi-significant quantity of LEGO I do not believe I am a hoarder, just a semi-extreme hobbiest. It sounds like a really good idea. However on my iPad it only shows as a black square. Could you provide a link to the photos? Thanks, Andy D

Thanks for a great review! This set has gone from a well, maybe... To a must have based on parts alone. I do plan to get it, even build it, but ultimtely it will become a parts pack because I just do not have that much permenant display space to devote to it. Thanks again, Andy D

Bricklink Inventory To Excel Format?
Andy D replied to Darthluke824's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I knew I had done this before, so I decided to do it again today. it is not easy to find, but here is how I did it... 1. Go to the Bricklink home page 2. Select reference catalog 3. Select the Download tab from the group of tabs at the top of the page. 4. Select the radio button inventory 5. Enter the set number (including the -1) 5. Download the tab-delimited file 6. Open in Excel IHTH Andy D -
@datune... That's quite a story! Must have been quite an interesting day having the LEGOland employees "stakling" you. You made quite a haul, I guess that's something we never think about when making large purchases... Where are we going to store them? and how much time and organization is it going to take to part out 30k to 40k or so parts? Based on the photo in your thread on storage and scale, you are going to have to increase you sorted/storage area quite a bit. Anyway, congratulations! Happy building! Happy MOCing! And Happy sorting! Andy D

Redhead1982, I thank you also. I had not considered the Family house as a parts pack (I will be buying a few sets in October during double points). The Family house looks really good. I was also reminded that I should get another copy of he Pet Shop (I only have 1, and I have been trying to get 2 copies of the modulars, one to build, one for parts). This thread has turned out to be quite helpful, so during October I plan to get... 1. Opera House 1. Pet Shop 2. Family house Maybe that's enough for this year. (I don't have 2500€, or about $3300 US to spend) Andy D
