It looks like it could be a very happy place as opposed to haunted. No self respecting haunt would renovate with those cheerful colors ;) I look forward to seeing more of your evicting the haunters from the house. Andy D

As I continue to sort and store and categorize (but not catalog) my LEGO collection I have come to a conclusion. I know it has been said before that sort and store is a never ending process. I did not want to believe that, however, as I continue to sort and store I now realize several things... 1. Sorting ** is ** a never ending process. 2. Defining a storage solution is a never ending and iterative process. 3. I will never know exactly what I LEGO parts I have. With this in mind, as I continue to sort and store I now realize that just as good as a comprehensive and complete sort, store and categorization is just knowing, that when I decide to build something, I need to have an idea that if I have such a part I need to know where it might be located in my collection. So I can go look through one area before I rush off to Bricklink to buy the same parts over and over again. So this is my new goal... To know approximately what I have and more importantly where I might locate the parts (in my collection, not just on Bricklink). I continue to sort and store and categorize. I continue to read and contribute this thread as I feel it is a very important resource for the members of the Eurobricks community. Just today I ran across this thread... http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=94299 in which Eurobricks member “cosmicpurr” posted a link to a site I don’t remember seeing in this thread. It has information on sorting, storing and cleaning LEGO and as such I feel that a link to this site... http://thebrickblogg...w-to-sort-lego/ belongs in this thread for completeness of this resource. While browsing the thebrickblogger site I came across a link to a Flickr group... https://www.flickr.c...ps/1043272@N22/ which as photos of more storage solutions than I have ever seen in one place. I believe both are well worth a read. Check out thebrickblogger site and the Flickr group for some very good info. Andy D

What that was for was for the people who think numbered bags are somehow bad for their kids, that way their kids can build "old school, as LEGO way intended". Not as an angry fit of rage. Andy D

The "parallel build" is something I forgot about in my earlier post, even though I used it just this last Christmas. On Chtistmas day me, my son and his wife always build LEGO. in the past it was seperate sets, this year we built the Helms Deep, which has great partitioning in terms of numbered bags and instruction manuals. One more reason why numbered bags are great! If anyone does not want their children to use numbered bags, just open and dump all the bags on the table and walk away. I believe the benefits of numbered bags far outweigh the negatives. Andy D

Very nice! It looks just like Cinderella's carriage updated. But don't you think Cindy is showing off a little with a $100 bill for a license plate? Andy D

A few years go I started keeping the boxes because I thought the artwork was great. Then they started to take up too much space so I console myself with just the instruction books and put all the boxes in the recycle bin, there are a few I really liked, but oh, well, no room. Now I have an interest in the architecture and monuments series. The boxes are much different than the regular LEGO boxes and I rationalized that they may be good for storing something... But what? For now I have those boxes stored, but if I don't use them in a few months... Into the recycle bin. I am trying to not be a pack-rat. Neatness counts! Andy D

Several years ago I had the same question, I am sure that each of us interested in buildings has had the question at one time or another. When I asked I was directed to the "Modular Building Standard". Here it is... http://amodularlife.wordpress.com/2010/06/12/modular-standards-for-lego-city-buildings/ This should answer many questions. Andy D

Really, really great! I like the design and I like all the textures, it adds lots of realism. The landscaping is also very, very well done. How large is it? Andy D

I like numbered bags for any of the sets that use them. Mostly I build in stages, frequently by the bag or bag set and I may not get back to a build for days, so completing a bag set helps keep me organized. Andy D

Does your current Lego setup inspire you to build?
Andy D replied to trippybrowneyes's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I would not say that my current set-up "inspires" me to build, but it does not inhibit me from building. I have dedicated storage space for unopened sets, dedicated space for display of completed models, dedicated space for parts (although not completely sorted, cataloged and organized) and most importantly a dedicated build space. When I get things out, I must replace them to keep my room as neat and as organized as possible, for it is clutter that can inhibit my inspiration and building. Neatness counts! (maybe that should be my new motto for 2014) Andy D -
Very nice, however I will not be getting it because... 1. Expense 2. Too large 3. Not a theme I collect long term Andt D

No idea, but it seems that the "redemption" happens around the purchase of a "PAB cup with lid". Hmmmm... Andy D

I see this as posibbly one of two things, either... 1. The originl article is a satire. Or 2. The author is a couple of sandwiches short of a picnic. Just MHO, YMMV Andy D

[MOC] metalbeard remodeled (metalbeard alternate build)
Andy D replied to bacem's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
@bacem -- Wow! That is really great! It loks the same but quite a bit different than the originl . I need to look at it compared to the original to see differences. But overall, great MOD! @goatman -- In my opinion, I believe your creation should have been in it's own thread instead of Trying to hijack bacem's thread. Andy D -
I started out using exclusively Plano boxes. They are a good storage solution, but I quickly outgrew Plano boxes as my only storage. Now I use a multi-pronged solution. For most stotage I use 15 quart Sterelite bins with snap-top lids, with parts in freezer bags or Glad Entree storage containers. I also tried the Akron Mills drawer bins, but I quickly outgrew those as an only storge solution. Plano boxes are a very good and necessary part of my solution, along ith all the other things. For me it has come down to where the parts will be, the type of part and the ease of access I want/need for building. For some parts the Akron Mills systems on my build surface is a good solution, most of my other storage solution involves keeping the parts in cabinets or the closet on shelves, all out of sight. My build space (room) is also my display room so "neatness counts" both from an astectics point of view and a comfort point of view for a relaxing build space. Andy D

This is a great idea (I think??) I am just starting to sort and organize my mini figs so I came here to see what others have done to get ideas to help me. My tentative idea is to keep some mini figs together that I know I will use as they are. Keep dresses together (unless it is just a plain slope as the skirt), but separate torsos, legs heads and headgear (which includes hair, but separate hats/helments from hair). My only concern about keeping hair separate from heads is that hair looks different not on a head. Just one more trial and error... Or what have others done with hair? I like the idea about separating printed vs. non-printed legs, and short vs. regular length legs and organize the heads by color and type (male/female/maybe expression) One more step, maybe, just maybe one day I will be able to look at my collection of parts and say to myself "I can find part I need" (assuming I have the part in the first place) Good luck to all you (like me) continual organizers and sorters. This is really great! I really like the style and the colors. I've been thinking of a coffee shop/coffee bar for a long time and yours is just great. I really lIke the idea of a lounge upstairs, It makes the coffee shop more of a relaxing place for your minifigures to chill out. Andy D

Top 5 LEGO Architecture sets? What's your favorite?
Andy D replied to henrysunset's topic in Special LEGO Themes
... Snip images... @Steve309. Thanks, they all look great! The CN tower is very well done, they all are! The WTC appears to be between 10 and 12 inches tall. Is that correct? I like your colors, but when I get to it I plan to make the WTC in white with black trim. Andy D- 31 replies

Top 5 LEGO Architecture sets? What's your favorite?
Andy D replied to henrysunset's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Of the five mentioned by the OP my least favorite is the Space Needle, but mainly because of he stability, it is just too fragile for my liking. Of the others I have bulit all but the White House, so I can't comment on that one yet. Of the other three, I would have to say I like the UN complex best, but I do like all of them. I tend to like he micro build architecture sets best mainly because of how I a using them... That is, they are being used as small decorator items in my office. Also, the micro builds are intreguing to me because of the level of detail and artistic interpretation in such a small scale. Forgot to mention, the Rockefeller Center, that one is very interesting also. I am currently working on the Farnsworth House, I like it for the early Mid-Century Modern design, however the building is a little large/out of scale for my other Arhcitecture models. Looking forward to the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Eiffel Tower and Trevi Fountain. I would like to see the World Trade Center Complex (the 1970's verion) as a micro build. Anybody seen any plans for the old WTC complex in micro build? Andy D- 31 replies

I never got around to taking photos of the final product. When I get other projects finished, such as sort and store and get my photo set-up put together I plan to photo a few MOCs. Maybe in a couple of months. The main difference betwen the WIP and the final MOC is a complete tiling of the interior and exterior. My MOC is much smaller thn yours, mine is closer to the size and design o a traditional modular. Looking forward to your next PoP inspired MOC. Andy D

That is really great! I recognize quite a few of he PoP elements. Just how many PoP sets did you use to make this? Last year I made a PoP/ Market Street inspired MOC, a carpet/coffee shop/outdoor market. Been meaning to make some other PoP inpspired set. Your Market Street may be the kick in the pants I need. Great MOC! Thanks for sharing is with us. Andy D
