I just built this today (except for the Micro Manager) and I think it was teriffic! The airplane made from a saloon is so humerous. First when just a piston engine and propellor is just not enough, you add a couple of jets in the back. Then there's the cannons! Obviously a couple of machine guns is not enough fire power... So you use a couple of big-megablocks cannons, and the cannon ammo appears to be beer glasses. The for bombs a few liquor bottes. Don't forget the flight controls... A gold faucet! Finally just what every airplane needs... A Piano, a piano! Gotta have a piano. Don't get me started on "Bob's Kabobs" this is very humerous. For a good time, I highly recommend this set! Andy D

2014 - Best and Biggest LEGO Year Ever?
Andy D replied to TheBrickPal's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Looks to be a good year for LEGO, but a bad year for my credit card. Just when I think there may be fewer sets I want, they go and do something like the new Creator Bike Shop/Cafe. Not to mention all the Steampunk looking Movie sets. Oh, well I didn't really need all that money anyway. ;) ;) Andy D -

I was at the Ontario, California... Ontario Mills Mall LEGO Store lat night and they had all the MB sets in stock. They even had a few 20217 Action Designer sets (kits 4,5,6) crushed box sales (20% off). Looks like there is still good availability for all the sts in stores an at shop@home. I know they may seem expensive, but if you want them, get them now as I'll bet they will just go up on eBay prices. Andy D -

Andy D replied to Dirk1313's topic in General LEGO Discussion
In most LEGO sets you are paying for bricks. In my opinion with the MBA the bricks are basically free and you are paying for the books that come with the sets. the $30 set includes 1 book, the $80 sets include 3 books. These books are more than just instructions on how to build models, they are an insight on how to design models. I bought the whole series ($320 at retail) and I consider it a bargain for a self-paced course on how and why the "LEGO Master Builders" design the sets the way they do. I plan to go back to these sets many times to refresh my memory on the how and why of LEGO design and building. If anyone is looking at the sets just for the models... Then the price is high, if you are looking at is as a course in LEGO, it is a great deal. This is why more than anything I am sad to see the LEGO MBA leave. There are books that can teach much of the same info, but the MBA kits have the parts needed to do the assignment. It is not just 1 model and a few alternates, it is one model and several alternates. If you want the MBA, I suggest you get it soon, don't wait for sales, it is worth the full price! Just MHO, Andy D -

The way I read this is that the web presence for the MBA will close in 2014. Does this mean that the sets are going to go EOL in 2014 as well? If so, it really reinforces my idea about LEGO products (and many other products)... Buy them as soon as you can after they are released, they could be discontinued at any moment. For those who do not yet have the MBA sets, I suggest going to LEGO shop@home (it appears that they are all available now, at least on the USA site) soon and order them. In some ways they are rather simplistic, but in other ways they are really great. I have completed most of the sets and I really enjoyed them. When I built them I really took my time, really read all the hints and tips, studied the construction techniques. Then after enjoying the model for a short time, disassembled, bagged it up and put back in the box so I can build again to review. The are the only sets I save as sets after disassembly. Andy D -
Addiction to me implies a problem. I have a hobby, my hobby harms no one, I do not overspend (no matter how much I spend) and I contain my LEGO to my studio. No addiction, just a pasionate hobby! Andy D

Thanks... Very nice Mico BURP. Andy D

Groan....

That's what I thought. Also, someone had the double decker couch for more than the MB. Someone else had a "custom" double decker couch for $10 (meaning not the one from the set). Andy D

Outstanding BURPs! As others have mentioned, BURPs are a useful if used correctly. Your GB BURPs are a very interesting study in parts usage. Now, who is going to make a micro BURP? Andy D

Thanks, that's just what I needed. Andy D I thought I was going to Bricklink the parts for the mini Metal Beard, but I found now on eBay for $24 -- bought it. There is one more at $24 and 2 at $31. Andy D

Thanks for the review. Very interesting, good photos. I also like the instruction pages for Metal Beard on the other thread. I was wondering if you have larger photos of the instruction pages, maybe a link to the Fliker pages so I can see larger images of the Metal Beard instructions. Thanks, Andy D

AyliffeMakit - Which torso did you use for number 11? I finally made a TARDIS and would like a Doctor to be by it. Thanks, Andy D- 21 replies

They just don't make cars like that anymore! My father-in-law had an Eldorado, not a convertsble, but huge. Nice job converting LDD to bricks. Andy D

Great review! We went to Legoland CA yesterday, our annual Winter/Spring visit. It just so happened that this was the first weekend for the “The LEGO Movie Experience” attraction. We got there early so the attraction was a walk-on, no line. The display area had quite a few people in there, but not so many that you could not see everything you want to. I will not discuss the attraction in case some might not like to hear about any inadvertent spoilers (unless you ask). Anyway, we had not seen the movie yet, so the attraction was quite a surprise to us. We both enjoyed it very much. We then went to lunch and my wife suggested that if we still have the energy (we’re both old) that we go see "The LEGO Movie" after we are done at Legoland. I decided, based on the attraction that I wanted to get a “The LEGO Movie” set. I picked up MetalBeard's Duel mainly because of the “steampunk” look of MetalBeard. Today I built the set and I must say... I wonder how they went about designing the set? Did they just throw a bunch of random parts on the table and go to it or what? You really can’t get an appreciation of MetalBeard without building it, it was a very fun build. I recommend it! Andy D

Here is a link to the post, in my comparisons, the presence of minifigs didn't seem to make a difference. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=89742&hl=+price%20+lego#entry1769119 Maybe the OP could compare his sts based on weight and see how they compare. Andy D
